O gênero Catasetum L. C. Rich ex Kunth abriga atualmente 166 espécies por nós reconhecidas. Ocorre desde a América Central até o sul do Brasil e norte da Argentina, em áreas tropicais quentes, com grande representação para o Brasil, onde ocorrem 94 espécies e seis híbridos naturais, na maioria epífitas. Uma lista preliminar de espécies foi elaborada para o Brasil baseada na literatura existente tendo sido incluídas 26 espécies para o Mato Grosso. O número de espécies obtido pelo presente estudo para o estado de Mato Grosso ficou acima dos números apresentados por todos os outros autores pesquisados, o que indica que estudos de campo podem aumentar consideravelmente a representação do gênero no Estado.

This study was conducted to assess the role of homegardens for in situ conservation of plant biodiversity in Holeta Town. In the garden data collection 75 homegardens were randomly selected. Ethnobotanical data were collected using homegarden observation, semi-structured interviews and market survey. Data were analyzed using preference ranking, direct matrix ranking, and descriptive statistics. A total of 112 plant species belonging to 93 genera and 43 families were identified which were classified to 14 functional groups. Out of which, 49 species (43%) were herbs, 32 species (29 %) were trees, 28 species (25 %) were shrubs, and (3%) species were climbers. Further analysis of the results showed that 70 species were cultivated, 35 were wild while 7 species were Ethiopia domesticated. Of the cultivated species, 41.07% were food crops and 58.93% were non-food crops. The purpose of the study was to determine the plant biodiversity and distribution of fruit, timber and vegetable species in the Haor homestead of Bangladesh and to explore the relationship between plant grower’s characteristics and plant biodiversity. Ajmiriganj upazila of Hobigonj district of Bangladesh was the study area. The study covered 300 homesteads from five unions. The information was collected by using questionnaires, focused group discussion and field observations. Plant biodiversity was described by Species richness, Relative prevalence and Species diversity. Twenty seven fruits, 23 timbers, 17 summer vegetables and 12 winter vegetables species were identified. None of the plant species was found in the 100% haor homestead. Coconut and mango were found in the highest number of homestead (79%) in the study area. The relative prevalence of most common fruit plant like betel nut, banana, mango were 115.074, 63.558, 74.358 respectively while the lowest reletive prevalence was observed for very rare timber species like Babla, Champa and Jarul. The highest species diversity was found in Mango (0.992), Coconut (0.990), Papaya (0.987) and that of lowest was found in fig, Ipil-ipil and Champa respectively. No relationship was observed between age of the farmers and fruit diversity, while education, family size, area of homestead, area under fruit have low and non-significant positive relationship with the fruit diversity. The traditional homestead fruit production & mangement system and low quality plant sapling is the main problem which need specific attention.

The National Park Mavrovo situated in the North-Western part of the Republic of Macedonia range of three mountain massifs- Shar Planina, Korab and Bistra, with an area of about 73,000 ha. It is characterized by great floristic richness, in particular woody plants and forest communities. Part of this plant treasure has encountered in rare, endemic and Tertiary relic species. In the conducted field research mainly during the period 2009-2012 within the Park are determined 149 woody species, which is more than 45% of the Macedonian dendroflora. This represents the dendrofloral richness of the Park. In this paper originated from my MSc thesis are determined woody species as individuals, and within populations, i.e. as a part of the forest associations. Special significance is achieved with the discovery of some new finding sites of the species and dendrological phenomena. The results relate to ecological site characteristics of the dendroflora represented in the Park, and its bio-ecological specificity is expressed through a detailed data tables and charts.

The Cordillera del Condor has around 150 km from north to south, with a maximum elevation of ca. 2900 m, located at the international border between Peru and Ecuador. It is found in areas of difficult access and botanical explorations in preliminary phase. This cordillera is part of the discontinued chain of the Subandean Cordilleras, located east of the Andes, which extends northward into Ecuador (Cordilleras Cutucu and Galeras) and south in Peru (Cordilleras Huarango, Azul, Yanachaga and others). These cordilleras have in common certain geological features -composed mainly of tertiary and Mesozoic sediments of sandstone and limestone rocks, with igneous intrusions- and floristic endemic only comparable with tepuis from the Guyana Highlands of Venezuela, a typical pattern of separation. In the Peruvian side of the Cordillera del Condor, are known various taxonomic and floristic studies involving isolated species of the region, however there is no comprehensive study of the Flora. Seperti kita ketahui bahwa Tumbuhan yang meliputi Pohon, Semak ataupun Herba merupakan  komponen utama penyusun ekosistem yang memiliki fungsi dan manfaat untuk mendukung kehidupan di permukaan bumi, karena kemampuannya sebagai produsen utama di alam. Selain itu tumbuhan juga dapat digunakan  sebagai bahan bangunan, sumber obat-obatan, pangan, tanaman hias, habitat satwa liar seperti burung dan serangga serta sebagai peneduh , pelindung dan tanaman hias.

Sebagai satu kampus yang memiliki areal yang cukup luas (250 ha), tentunya kehadiran tumbuh-tumbuhan di kawasan Kampus Universitas Tadulako Tondo ini memiliki berbagai macam jenis tumbuhan baik berupa pohon, semak, liana ataupun herba, namun hingga saat ini belum ada buku panduan lapangan untuk mengenal jenis-jenisnya.

Penulisan buku ini bertujuan sebagai informasi tentang keanekaragaman dan jumlah jenis tumbuhan ataupun tanaman yang tumbuh atau ditanam di areal kampus Universitas Tadulako, yang  diharapkan bermanfaat sebagai panduan untuk pengenalan lebih jauh.

The municipality of Theobroma in Rondonia, Brazil, covers 2165 km 2 , of which 43% was deforested by 1993. Between 1973 and 1993, the national government continued to improve highway BR364 connecting the area to Brazil's south-central region and established a colony in Theobroma. During this period, 98% of the deforestation occurred. Some 1800 settler families continue to convert forest into pasture in a system based on the slash-and-burn agriculture and dual-purpose cattle production. Trends in carbon emissions and plant species losses during the 20-year history of Theobroma were analyzed by combining observed shifts in land-use types with estimates for the carbon stocks and plant species richness of each of these types. Carbon stocks declined from about 200 t ha À1 in the forest to 28 t ha À1 in the pasture and of 326 plant species encountered in the forest, only 20 remained in pastures (along with 66 species not found in forests). The effects of converting more than 93 000 ha of forest into other uses over 20 years include approximate losses of 14 million tons of C to the atmosphere and substantial losses of plant species. Land use alternatives that would store more C include agroforestry and ± given the strong incentives for settlers to convert lands into pasture ±improving pasture management or developing silvopastoral systems. Plant species conservation may be improved with proposed ways to add private value to the forest. #

The aim of this paper is to present the current state of the Flora in the Cordillera del Condor and the adjacent areas of Peru, 2006. Nowadays there is a preliminary version of ca. 6,000 botanical records from Provinces Condorcanqui (Amazonas department) and San Ignacio (Cajamarca department), obtained in a joint effort between Herbarium Truxillense (HUT) and the Missouri Botanical Garden Herbarium (MO) under the Flora of Peru Project between 1995 and 2006 and partial data Beltran & Foster (1994) and other collectors. The preliminary list has 167 families, 694 genera and 1382 species. It is emphasized that after the publication of Ulloa Ulloa et al. (2004) and Smith et al. (2005), there are 7 new species, 4 taxonomic changes and 86 new records for the country. The material is recorded and deposited in the following herbaria: F, HUT, MO, and USM (acronyms in Holmgren et al., 1990).

Field survey on parthenium was conducted at East shewa Zone of Oromiya Regional State, Ethiopia during 2008 cropping season.  The objectives of the study was to assess the weed flora composition and plant species that are growing in copetation with parthenium to use those plants as potential biological management options under field condition. Assessment of weed flora composition was carried out in five Kebeles (Farmers Association) of Boset District East Shewa Zone of Oromiya Regional State, Ethiopia. Data on the species composition were recorded and samples of weed flora compositions were collected. The result showed a total of eighty five different herbaceous plant species that were collected and recorded in 63 genera and 24 families. Poaceae (21), Asteraceae (11), Fabaceae (7) and Convolvulaceae (7) were by far the richest taxa and accounted together (55 %) of the entire flora of the study area. The major plant species having higher dominance value were Parthenium hysterophorus (25.6), Cassia tora (6.07), Argemone mexicana (5.83), Xanthium strumarium (4.53), Digitaria abyssinica (3.02) and Cyperus rotundus (2.86). Similarity index values of the species composition among different kebeles ranged from 65% to 78% which indicating that weed species compositions in these locations were similar. The diversity and evenness of species declined with increasing spread of parthenium which suggests negative influence that parthenium had on the status of species diversity in the studied area. In conclusion the selected plant species that were found competitive with parthenium based on their abundance and dominance values were Argemone mexicana, Cassia tora, and Xanthium strumarium which were suggested for detailed competition experiment in order to determine their competitiveness with P. hysterophorus and will be used for biological management of it.

This research article identifies the contributions of PhD faculty members of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Sindh Pakistan offering degrees in the environment discipline through published articles in journals, conference proceedings, research project reports and focused areas of research. The content analyses of curriculum vitae data of PhD faculty members is carried out in this article. As an outcome a methodology is developed which compares the conducted research with existing environmental issues existing in Sindh Pakistan. In total, 696 research contributions of PhD faculty members of HEIs offering degrees in field of Environmental Engineering & Environmental Sciences were explored. The PhD faculty members have disseminated their research by publishing 192 articles in international and 148 in national journals, presenting 71 papers in national and 117 papers in international conferences, 146 research project reports and 22 scholarly books. When the new varieties of the crops developed by the corporation and done new invention in the agriculture biotechnology, they often seek for the legal right over the Intellectual Property these innovations represent. But for the term of 'Agriculture' the protection of Intellectual Property in agriculture is considered controversial always because it opposes directly pre-existing system/rules of agriculture management that is basically based on free-exchange and on public sector involvement. So, sometimes issues occur that the genetically food is good for the health or not. And can it take into consideration environment safety or not. This paper is going to discuss about implementation of Indian biodiversity laws. This paper is going to highlight the laws for the food safety and their implementation.

This study aims to formulate the development strategy of the Mahawu mountain nature tourism based on the plants species in the Tomohon district, North Sulawesi, Indonesia. Field survey and observations involved the incidental purposive sampling. Number of tourist respondent was 100 people. Data and informations were collected through the questionnaire-based interviews. Data analysis used the Likert scale scoring and it is interpreted descriptively. The SWOT analysis was conducted to obtain the priority development strategy. Results show that total score of internal factors in the IFAS matrix is 2,532 and total score of external factors in the EFAS matrix is 2,626. The recommended development strategy is the SO (Strength-Opportunity) strategy with the total score is 3.132. This development strategy is classified as the Progressive Growth Strategy, i.e. conserving and improving the plant biodiversity that has a high ecotourism value, optimizing the plant biodiversity as a learning materials for students, visitors and researchers, optimizing the attractiveness values of the natural crater at the top of Mahawu Mountain and diversifying field activities in tree planting for tourists.

Si riporta inoltre la prima segnalazione di Onosma fastigiata (Braun-Blanq.) Lacaita subsp. fastigiata per l’Appenino.

The Indonesian government is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions through deforestation prevention and planting trees. Planting trees in urban areas is carried out, among others, through the development of urban forests and biodiversity parks. Biodiversity
parks have the function to increasing biodiversity in urban areas and absorb greenhouse gases. This study aims to determine the diversity of trees at Bumi Patra Bidoversity Park in Indramayu and their contribution to carbon absorption. Inventory and measurement of tree diameter and height were carried out by census method. Bumi Patra Biodiversity Park covered an area of 19.30 hectares with 38 plant species, a total of 1,889 trees, or an average density of 98 trees per hectare. The species diversity index (H’) of vegetation in this biodiversity park is 3.16, with an evenness index (e) of 0.90 and a species richness index ® of 5.36. Biomass and
carbon content in Bumi Patra Biodiversity Park was 123.38 tons or equivalent to 61.69 tons C. The average biomass and carbon potential per hectare was 6.38 ton/ha or 3.20 tons C/ha. Potential biomass and carbon content were dominated by angsana (Pterocarpus indicus Willd)
and mango (Mangifera indica L.) with 119.44 kg (59.72 tons C) and 2.62 tons (1.31 tons C), respectively.
