SIWES

This industrial training report is based on the blending of mineral base oil (lubricants) and quality control tests and analysis carried out at DOZZY Lube Oil Plant. The major concern in the blending of mineral base oil is the viscosity. Viscosity of oil is so important that in the general application of lubricating oils, any preliminary classification will be in terms of viscosity, although for many other specific uses, attribute like chemical and physical properties have to be considered. The Quality Control Department ensures that production follows approved
production procedures as well as produce products that meet acceptable national and
international standards.

Students at their undergraduate studies in Nigeria are expected to undergo a programme known as the Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES), the programme is meant to expose students to real world practical work. Despite all the technologies available, the proper method of managing the students is still left behind. Accordingly, there is a need to put together an automated system that will handle the SIWES management process from its beginning to the end. This project focuses on studying the existing methods of managing SIWES students at the Faculty of Computer Sciences and Information Technology (FCSIT); with the view of developing and implementing a web based solution. The study, however, reviewed related literature and performed system analysis and design of the new system. The system was developed using the laravel framework with HTML, CSS, JavaScript and PHP as the languages. The major problems covered are Student to supervisor allocation, SIWES place Selection, SIWES place recommendation, logbook management and web based chat between the users. In the course of implementation, the system was uploaded online under the sub domain siwes.fcsit.net. At the end of the project we found that more than 90% of the systems associated to the SIWES programme are web based and it is recommended for future studies to build mobile applications. Also, the data stored can be used to allocate project supervisors using similarity in their skills. We further recommend the utilisation of the system as it will bring efficiency and effectiveness in the management of SIWES students in the faculty.

This study examined the impact of SIWES on the Academic Performance of Business Education students. The final year students of Business Education of UNILAG and LASU were used for the study. One hundred and twenty-four (124) business education students were sampled through a simple random sampling technique. Item questionnaire was designed and validation of the instrument was assessed by experts. The data collected were analyzed using percentage, mean score, and standard deviation. The findings of the study showed that SIWES influenced students' academic performance. The result showed that SIWES enhances the competency of students in their academic activities, prepares them for future job challenges, and creates employment opportunities. It was recommended that SIWES should be properly organized to achieve its set objectives. It was recommended that SIWES should be properly organized so that students can be appropriately placed in organizations that are related to their course of study, students should be properly and regularly supervised by both the industry-based and school supervisors during SIWES and the duration for SIWES should be increased at reasonable portion such that students will benefit maximally from SIWES exposure. It was concluded that SIWES exposure enabled business education to have more competency on their academic because the strategy of handling academic is enhanced after the exposure to SIWES. The findings also explained that if the duration of the SIWES has increased reasonably the performance of the students will be better. SIWES also exposed business education students to the proper and personal quality skills required to promote their academic activities and prepare them for future employment. In the same vein exposed them to job opportunities. The study further explained that there is a great improvement in the academic activities of business education students after SIWES exposure and also has a positive impact on their academic performance because there is a progression in their academic performances after exposure to SIWES.

This report will take you through the journey of my SIWES which I did at Datumenergy Nigeria Limited, Ikeja, Lagos State.
My training was on the design, fabrication and testing of different piping system ranging from fire hydrant piping, natural gas reticulation system and Air compressor piping with use of different pipe materials.
During this period, I acquired practical knowledge on how to install and replace piping components like Pressure gauges, valves, gas filters and also providing the needed assistance to site supervisor, Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) inspectors, fitters and welders with the functionality they need.
This report discussed the technical skills gained during the training period and justifying the relevance of the scheme in equipping students with needed technical competence to thrive in the real world.

This work present a technical report of the six-months student industrial experience work scheme (SIWES), undertaken at the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), Federal Secretariat Complex, Ikolaba, Ibadan between September 17th September, 2018 to 22nd February of 2019. As required by the Industrial Training Coordinating Centre (ITCC), University of Ibadan, Ibadan, it was presented in coherent chapters to entails the brief background and objectives of SIWES, the NBS’s profile and the Organization Structure, Basic Data Collection Processes, National Integrated Survey of Household (NISH) to include General Household Survey (GHS) and Prices Collection, and National Integrated Survey of Establishments (NISE). The relevance of Mathematics was also reviewed in relating to NBS in the aspect of Computational Mathematics which employed Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS), and the summary, conclusions and recommendations were also suggested in this report work. This report work serve as a module in chapter six as introduction to SPSS for beginners. During this SIWES, I was attached to the Department of Fields Services and Methodology in NBS, under Field Services Division, and during the period of sixmonths, I assumed a post of an Enumerator, Interviewer, Data Collector and Data Analyst.

My industrial Training exercise was done at Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company Limited (WRPC). The refinery was designed to process Light Crude into finished petroleum products. I was deployed to the Gas Turbine Section of Power Plant and Utilities (PPU) Department where I served for the entire duration of my training. I learnt a lot, from how Electrical Power is being generated for large scale consumption using Gas Turbines and how the generated power is then distributed. I also got the opportunity to learn about the functions and activities of various Departments and sections in WRPC that will be stated in details in the subsequent sections of this report.
