Status Inconsistency

במאמר זה אבקש להבין כיצד בעלי השכלה אקדמאית נמוכי שכר חווים את מיקומם החברתי. הספרות שעסקה במצב זה של אי-הלימה בין המדדים השונים של הריבוד ( "סתירת סטטוס"), בחנה ומצאה תחושה חזקה של הפרת ציפיות לסטטוס לכיד. בבחינה פתוחה של חוויות המשכילים נמוכי השכר את מיקומם החברתי, באמצעות ראיונות חצי-מובנים, מצאתי כי הם מבכרים מימוש עצמי על פני הכנסה ולא מתמקדים בהפרת ציפיות. בדיון אצביע על החשיבות של הבנת תפישתם העצמית של משכילים נמוכי השכר לאור תפקידם המרכזי בהצתת מחאות חברתיות ורדיקליות פוליטית. מכאן אעלה השערה ראשונית בדבר אפשרויות ההנעה שלהם לפעולה במחאות.

Since the 1969 Stonewall riots in New York City, LGBTQ individuals have orchestrated a significant movement toward equality; however, heterosexism, and workplace bullying are still prevalent concerns for LGBTQ workers. This is important because workplace bullying has been found to cause psychological and physical illness, and been found as a cause for reduced organizational effectiveness. Therefore, the purpose of this Delphi study was to build consensus about organizational diversity practices or policies that can help to diminish the risk of workplace bullying. Following the theoretical foundations of status inconsistency theory, social identity theory, procedural justice theory, and heteronormativity theory, the research questions for the study examined what characteristics of current diversity policies can and should organizational leaders use, and what practices or policies organizational leaders must address to diminish the risk of workplace bullying of LGBTQ employees. The study employed a manual constant comparative analysis, measurement of median scores, and ranking measurements to analyze data collected through a three round Delphi study of human resource and diversity experts. Cronbach’s Alpha was measured to determine study reliability. Based on 26 items with consensus, the expert panelists further conceded on seven top recommendations. This study contributes to social change by helping inform organizational leaders, politicians, advocacy groups, and scholars on recommendations to help safeguard the mental and physical health of employees, safeguard the operational effectiveness of an organization, and reduce workplace bullying of LGBTQ and other marginalized employees.

The present study tries to investigate the rate of wife abuse among married women in metropolitan of Tabriz and some factors affecting it. The research method has been performed with a quantitative approach and it has been tried to investigate the intended purpose among 275 subjects of the selected sample in city of Tabriz (Iran) by multi-stage sampling and using a questionnaire. The results indicate the existence of wife abuse in the studied population. Also, among the most important and influencing variables, the variable of power relations has had the greatest impact on the rate of wife abuse; in addition, the variable of the status inconsistency, by affectability of the variable of power relations, has had a significant effect on the dependent variable, such that the used variables could explain 27% of the variance of changes in wife abuse variable. Мы используем результаты международного исследования компетентности взрослых (PIAAC), в рамках которого на репрезентативной для страны выборке были из-мерены грамотность чтения и математическая грамотность людей трудоспособного возраста. Тестовые результаты в странах ОЭСР де-монстрируют связь с уровнем формального образования, однако в России мы наблюдаем несколько отклонений. Анализ позволил выявить три вида неконсистентности. Мы обнаружили, что в России не наблюдается линейной зависимости между уровнем формального образования и из-меренной грамотностью. Прирост компетентности замедляется на уровне высшего образования, тогда как на нижних образовательных уровнях-на фоне ведущих мировых стран-падения грамотности не наблюдается. При сравнении России с развитыми странами выяснилось, что большая доля людей с низким уровнем грамотности занимает высококвалифи-цированные рабочие места. При оценке распределения людей с тем или иным формальным образованием на рынке труда в России мы видим картину весьма близкую к той, что наблюдается в странах ОЭСР. По всей видимости, эта неконсистентность была скрыта из-за недостаточной надежности для нашей страны основного (а в большинстве случаев-единственного) и для социологических, и для экономических исследований образовательного индикатора: наличия диплома об образовании. A new strand of writing in political philosophy deals with the linkage – rather than the tension – between politics of recognition and politics of redistribution. This scholarship usually deals with two-dimensionally subordinated groups (e.g. poor ethnic minorities). In this case study, I explore empirically how such linkages may be manifested in regard to a mismatched status group. Focusing on low-income college-educated people (LICEP), and going beyond the traditional status inconsistency approach, I have explored how LICEP frame their social positioning mostly in terms of self-fulfillment and recognition. This is at odds with LICEP having a pivotal role in social protests globally. Taken together, the findings yield a configuration of a few recognition-redistribution interactions: Low material reward is experienced as misrecognition; LICEP-centered social protests are also about recognition of their lifestyle and are characterized by self-fulfillment potential for this group (i.e. creative environment); and the different modalities of self-fulfillment work as sources for LICEP activists’ biographies. This specific configuration takes us beyond abstract notions of the recognition-redistribution linkage and the double subordination examples.
