stereotypes such as victims, illegal aliens, problematics, frauds and deviants who are need to gain
audience’s sympathy while they have been suffering violence, torturing or abusing physically for their
political, ethnic, or religious positions in their home countries. Also, they are mostly represented
inaccurately by using expressions such as "thousand" or "hundreds". In some cases, the picture of
young male refugees in media in related to “threatening” as a dominant stereotype. With the focus
on unaccompanied children, Swedish and Norwegian media would focus on the age, gender and
ethnicity to define who is to be categorized as “deserved” or not when depicting an unaccompanied
child. The purpose of this study was analyzing one of the most recent TV series broadcasting on SVT,
Ensamkommande flyktingbarn which relies on challenging the previous patterns to represent
unaccompanied children by media. According to the considered TV series, these children are
depicted as powerful, happy, smart, empowered an active people instead of representing as the
victim, threatening, deviant, disappointed, defeated and fraud. They seem no deserve to get
sympathy, but to enjoy the better situation for living. Moreover, this TV series tries to depict them in
a very comfortable and safe condition in Sweden comparing their horrible life in their countries.
Depicting Sweden as a bright, dreamy and secure land in contrast to Afghanistan, Iran, Somalia,
Greece and Malta which are portraying with darkness, war and low facilities; all make a significant
border between these areas from the perspective of postcolonial approach. It would seem that these
