Post-classical Archaeology generally seems to be anchored to a site-centred approach. Yet the sites become meaningful only in their own spatial context and as elements of the landscape palimpsest: the economic and social-cultural characters which the ancient communities have imprinted in the landscape may be identified and reconstructed using innovative methodologies, such Air Borne Laser Scanning (LiDAR) and GIS applications, and applying a regressive analysis. In this article the author focuses on three different case studies, in the Giudicarie Esteriori Valley (western Trentino), and she tries to define the stratigraphic relations among the elements of the landscapes and to order them in the sequence of their occurrence. The arrangement of surveying grids and files, implemented in a WebGIS platform, allows the control of the diachronic and synchronic relations between the different objects and favours a continuous increase in knowledge; it also allows multiple-perspective analyses for a dynamic approach to the economic and social-cultural nature of the past.

The paper deals with the database of advanced Middle Bronze Age decorated pottery (“Appenninico”), a peculiar type of ceramic that was the focus of the 1959 Puglisi’s book presenting a corpus implemented in the following years till 1995. A Roma Tre seminar was dedicated to the updating of this corpus, giving birth to a geodatabase that we hope to convert soon in a WebGis

Online mapping platforms enable citizens to generate geographic content that can be geoprocessed and displayed in real time as scientific data. Typically, this is implemented through 3-tier architecture including GIS server software and it may be challenging to achieve a comparable level of online mapping features without it. The aim of this study is to implement geoprocessing in a SaaS WebGIS mapping application with the use of a desktop GIS plug-in. The advantages of the adopted approach are scalability as well as complexity reduction in the IT system architecture, which may be critical for small bottom-up citizen science projects. The downloadable and editable toolbox, transfers this solution to any other WebGIS project based on an ArcGIS Online platform. We test our WebGIS approach on a visual pollution case study (Lublin, E. Poland), well-recognized phenomena concerning both citizens and cityscape, and an emerging research topic in international literature. Until now, visual pollution hasn’t been applied to citizen science research, so this paper also introduces a first methodology of integrating WebGIS in visual pollution studies. Our findings have demonstrated that georeferenced web-based polling can be quality-checked, geoprocessed, and interactively visualized with detailed statistics in near real-time without using a GIS server.

Tóm tắt: Với những ưu điểm nổi trội, công nghệ GIS đã và đang được ứng dụng rộng rãi trên thế giới để quản lý hạ tầng đô thị. Với mục tiêu trở thành một đô thị du lịch hiện đại, thông minh Thành phố Phan Rang-Tháp Chàm đẩy mạnh xây dựng các công trình hạ tầng đô thị và nâng cao công tác quản lý lĩnh vực này thông qua ứng dụng công nghệ thông tin (CNTT) nói chung và ứng dụng GIS nói riêng. Nội dung của bài báo sẽ tập trung làm rõ vấn đề xây dựng cơ sở dữ liệu (CSDL) và thiết lập các phần mềm hỗ trợ công tác quản lý hạ tầng đô thị trên địa bàn thành phố. This paper shows how a set of open source tools, raging from CSS templates to JavaScript libraries, from PHP interfaces to PostGIS and MySQL databases, can be used to create a complete environment suitable for both touristic and enhanced view and management of archaeological data. During this experience various frontend tools have been analyzed and compared, and some of them have been chosen to create a touristic purposed archaeological website, www.sipontoaperta.it, and the corresponding data management interface with on-request access; in this setup the “stratigraphic unit” approach to data management has been mixed with "single context record"-based tools and spatial-enabled database plus Python scripts to obtain a full featured (albeit user friendly) webGIS. The work also presents for the first time in literature a successful stratigraphic unit data import into the ARK platform, and an OpenLayer (JavaScript) plus Pannellum (HTML5) software setup to create the first 360 degree immersive photographic webtour documented on an archaeological site completely realized with free software. To increase the attractiveness and the competitiveness of the website, 3D laser-scanned reconstructions have been created, exported using well documented formats and embedded in the webGIS using open source JavaScript libraries.

Cybersecurity is a global challenge as Cyberspace is never risk free. Cybersecurity ensures the attainment and maintenance of the security properties of the digital infrastructure and services against relevant security risks in the cyber environment. Currently web applications are highly functional and rely upon two-way flow of information between the server and browser. New technologies in Web applications have brought with them a new range of security vulnerabilities and new possibilities for exploitation. WebGIS is an effective way for disseminating geospatial data and geo-processing tools through internet. WebGIS is similar to the client/server architecture and the server-side geo-processing components will store, process and serve the data to the client/browser, during which Database server, Application server and a web server will be involved. The networking infrastructure in WebGIS environment plays a critical role in the security of the data centres. This paper presents the architecture of WebGIS environment, role of networking components, traits of Cybersecurity and portrays various defence mechanisms that aid in Cybersecurity in WebGIS environment.

Indonesia has a lot of social problems, among others, the effects of natural disasters, poverty, moral degradation and neglected children. Then "Bangkit Bangsaku" present and hammering these problems. The system of "Bangkit Bangsaku" provides information on the location of the posts of social and natural disasters in the form of digital map, where the locations of these posts will be given coverage area in the range of vulnerability by using buffering. This information can be accessed by anyone who visits this website. On this website also provided a diverse menu featuring facilities for visitors, if we want to make social action as would be disastrous donors, volunteers, till to know the social organizations which provide accommodation for the disaster.
In building the business of "Bangkit Bangsaku" on the internet is required four major components, namely: product, website, traffic (visitors) and conversion (added value). Each of the components need to be considered before analyzing the feasibility of the business.
The Business of "Bangkit Bangsaku" assumed to be in a small scale, because it does not require a special place and a lot of workers. But in the long term still expected to be able to develop its further so as to include the outposts of archipelago. "Bangkit Bangsaku" get revenue from commissions recommended products for donations and does not produce a product, so that it does not have a variable cost. From the calculations in financial analysis shows that the business is able to provide a good BEP value, that is 11.5 months.

Teknologi informasi sudah menjadi sebuah keharusan dalam penyediaan dan pemberian informasi. Ketersediaan informasi yang cepat dan akurat menjadi hal penting bagi kelangsungan hidup manusia saat ini. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk merancang sistem informasi peninggalan arkeologi Islam di Sulawesi Selatan, Tenggara, dan Barat berbasis WebGIS. Metode penelitian yang digunakan ialah studi pustaka dan perancangan sistem dengan menggunakan bahasa pemrograman HTML (Hypertext Markup Language), PHP (Hypertext Preprocessor), dan JavaScript. Rangkaian kode-kode program dikoneksikan dengan sebuah program open source bernama MapServer dan peta Google. Metode pengumpulan data yaitu mengeksplorasi laporan hasil penelitian Balai Arkeologi Sulawesi Selatan dari tahun 1996 sampai 2017, kemudian data arkeologi diintegrasikan kedalam satu database, selanjutnya menset-up seluruh data arkeologi kedalam format spasial agar memiliki referensi geografis yang sama. Hasil penyatuan (overlay) antara peta Google dengan data-data arkeologi Islam yang ada di Sulawesi Selatan, Tenggara, dan Barat sangat mudah diakses secara efektif dan efisien oleh berbagai pihak yang berkepentingan karena sudah menggunakan Sistem Informasi Arkeologi Islam berbasis WebGIS.

A 15 anni dall’avvio del progetto SITAR e in occasione del recente riconoscimento dell’European Archaeological Heritage Prize, la Soprintendenza Speciale di Roma è lieta di promuovere una giornata di studi. Un momento di sintesi e riflessione strategica sulle potenzialità delle politiche di libero accesso ai dati archeologici, l’interoperabilità di sistemi tecnologici complessi e l’accessibilità e la trasparenza della Pubblica Amministrazione. Si tratta dei pilastri fondanti della piattaforma concettuale e logica di SITAR che sin dal suo avvio è stata pensata per essere a servizio degli utenti attraverso approcci partecipativi e condivisi.

Una giornata di confronto aperto sulle nuove funzionalità del Sistema e dei servizi open-data messi a disposizione a beneficio delle comunità scientifiche di riferimento, del mondo dell’impresa e dei cittadini, nel contesto più ampio del panorama regionale e nazionale.

Entende-se que os métodos formais de análise estatística de séries temporais estão bem desenvolvidos e adaptados ao estudo das dádivas de sangue. No entanto, têm sido disponibilizadas poucas ferramentas que possibilitem o estudo de um aspeto igualmente importante – a geografia destes fenómenos.

É então objetivo principal deste estágio apoiar a gestão de dádivas de sangue por parte do Instituto Português do Sangue e da Transplantação (IPST) utilizando dados geográficos. Aqui, foram identificados quatro pontos fulcrais de atuação: i) facilitar a autossuficiência em sangue; ii) obter maior especificidade na colheita; iii) fomentar uma mudança de paradigma da colheita; e iv) criar um novo modelo de relacionamento com as associações de dadores. Estrategicamente, o IPST pretende implementar a “utilização das Tecnologias de Informação e Comunicação (TIC) para potenciar mudança e a modernização administrativa através da integração dos sistemas de informação (SI), aumentando-se a sua fiabilidade e interoperabilidade” onde este projeto se enquadra.

A autossuficiência de sangue a nível nacional é conseguida pela contribuição do IPST e de alguns hospitais que realizam colheitas, sendo o IPST responsável por cerca de 72% das mesmas. O IPST conta com a ajuda de associações de dadores, mas a falta de controlo e a dependência do trabalho das mesmas pode provocar constrangimentos ao instituto. Com isto, a promoção e o planeamento de brigadas e promoções de dádiva terão de passar de um controlo regional para um de âmbito nacional.

O estágio contou com duas componentes principais. Na primeira, foi disponibilizada informação ao IPST, numa plataforma WebSIG (Mapidea Location Analytics [MLA]), que permite ofácil acesso a cartografia, inquirições e análise espacial, por parte de utilizadores sem formação específica. Na segunda componente foram realizadas análises de estatística espacial e calculadas as áreas de influência dos centros fixos de dádiva de sangue de forma a perceber as dinâmicas espácio-temporais e funcionais das dádivas de sangue. Por fim realizaram-se três experimentações de um modelo de Localização-Alocação para compreender quais os locais com maior potencialidade para de futuro acolher um centro fixo de dádiva de sangue.

A disponibilização da solução MLA ao IPST cumpriu o objetivo principal deste estágio. Com a informação disponibilizada é possível, a qualquer pessoa dentro do IPST, realizar várias análises de acordo com as necessidades que existam, visualizá-las espacialmente e partilhá-las com quem for conveniente.

Innovative methodologies for reading the agrarian, mineral and woodland-pastoral landscape include techniques of landscape analysis, such as air borne laser scanning (liDAR) and the use of a WebGIS platform with multi-user access for mapping and compiling archaeological data. The application of such techniques in the Trentino region has facilitated multiple-perspective analyses and a dynamic approach to the economic and social-cultural nature of the past.

Due to the need for further expansion of a gas pipeline network and more efficient maintenance of available spatial data on the gas pipeline infrastructure, the management of gas transportation system operator has decided to extend the existing information system for the management of gas infrastructure by introducing location intelligence, i.e. its upgrading with the functional WebGIS solution. This paper describes the approach for developing the solution by using open source software components. The implemented WebGIS solution enables environmental monitoring in relation to safe natural gas transport, helps in planning and maintaining the gas pipeline network, and provides location-conscious decisionmaking on various aspects of the gas infrastructure management.

Within an E.U.-funded project, BESS (Pocket Beach Management and Remote Surveillance System), the notion of a geographic information system is an indispensable tool for managing the dynamics of georeferenced data and information for any form of territorial planning. This notion was further explored with the creation of a WebGIS portal that will allow local and regional stakeholders/authorities obtain an easy remote access tool to monitor the status of pocket beaches (PB) in the Maltese Archipelago and Sicily. In this paper, we provide a methodological approach for the implementation of a WebGIS necessary for very detailed dynamic mapping and visualization of geospatial coastal data; the description of the dataset necessary for the monitoring of coastal areas, especially the PBs; and a demonstration of a case study for the PBs of Sicily and Malta by using the methodology and the dataset used during the BESS project. The Philippines being a locus of tropical cyclones, tsunamis, earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, is a hotbed of disasters. These natural hazards inflict loss of lives and costly damage to property. Situated in a region where climate and geophysical tempest is common, the Philippines will inevitably suffer from calamities similar to those experienced recently. With continued development and population growth in hazard prone areas, it is expected that damage to infrastructure and human losses would persist and even rise unless appropriate measures are immediately implemented by government. In 2012, the Philippines launched a responsive program for disaster prevention and mitigation called the Nationwide Operational Assessment of Hazards (Project NOAH), specifically for government warning agencies to be able to provide a 6 hr lead-time warning to vulnerable communities against impending floods and to use advanced technology to enhance current geo-hazard vulnerability maps. To disseminate such critical information to as wide an audience as possible, a Web-GIS using mashups of freely available source codes and application program interface (APIs) was developed and can be found in the URLs http:// noah.dost.gov.ph and http://noah.up.edu.ph/. This Web-GIS tool is now heavily used by local government units in the Philippines in their disaster prevention and mitigation efforts and can be replicated in countries that have a proactive approach to address the impacts of natural hazards but lack sufficient funds.

WWII aerial photo reconnaissance played a decisive role in the success of the Allied campaigns in Europe. Repeated aerial surveys provided information to monitor enemy lines, identify targets, plan attacks and assess damages inflicted by aerial bombing. Reconnaissance activity in the 1943-45 Italian campaign produced an awesome number of aerials, 883,005 of whom are kept today by ICCD-Aerofototeca Nazionale (AFN) in Rome. The often massive scale of bombing has left a lasting legacy across the landscape, as is shown by the problems in dealing with unexploded ordnance (UXO), still retrieved on a nearly daily basis. The AFN collection is a powerful, though still underdeveloped record of the landscape of wartime Italy and is essential for the plotting of UXO hazard maps. The article focuses on the main steps to be taken in order to exploit and share it.

During the last years, many solutions have been proposed for 3D Virtual Heritage representations. Recently, also new technologies for online gaming evolved, based on javascript libraries (WebGL), used to create and publish virtual interactive environments. They are based on recent Web browser's functionalities, surpassing some limitations of VRML technologies. On the side of geospatial information, technology has evolved from desktop GIS to 2D WebGIS and globe applications. The use of globe applications is, today, very diffused due to its immediate and at the same time impressive representation of the earth surface and territories. These technologies have been, also, applied to Virtual Heritage 3D reconstructions, to improve the fruition of Cultural Heritage (CH), with the achievement of interesting results. The topic of this paper is the experimentation on the fusion between globe based and gaming technologies (in our case WebGL) that allow achieving a more user-centric and powerful solution useful for publishing 3D geospatial information of CH on Web. This choice allows obtaining GIS oriented 3D models, typical of globe applications, and, at the same time, a more immersive exploration of CH and its surrounding environment. In particular, it also gives complementary text and multimedia information on the history, architectural features of each cultural good, based on querying of semantic information. The test field of the research is the construction of the 3D GIS virtual globe model of the Manfredonic Castle of Mussomeli (Sicily-Italy), developed for PON-NEPTIS EU Project, to compare open-source technologies and commercial proprietary applications.
