Part Of The Story
Ronald had his chin blown off
by an AK-47 assault rifle put together
outside the United States, probably flown in
on a military transport jet,
if not a Learjet, but, certainly, the gun did cross water and, apparently, was predestined on October 10, 1997 to be in the 1500 block of North Roberston Street
in Treme in New Orleans in Louisiana
in this fine, fine tapestry called America.
No matter the origin of the gun, though.
Black hands eventually purchased it.
A black finger pulled the trigger, repeatedly.
A black man-child took the bullets.
Six black children got left behind, and a black family cried.
The police presided over the victim’s 15 minutes of ugly fame.
A white-owned newspaper publicized the sorrow,
and a black-owned funeral parlor profited greatly from the drama.
But the part of the story that didn’t come out
is that Ronald was never forgiven for once living like a devil,
nor was it told about those days
when Ronald was God’s kindest earth angel.

intern (out-twist) helped plow a deep ditch through a vast field of national xenophobia;
as such, our fascination with a smidgen of another language
(not too much, please
)
