Wishing Land…
I wish there was a place where I
Could live on cake, ice cream and pie,
I wish there was a land where they
Just danced and sang and played all day,
I betcha I’d eat just like a pig…
And have lots of fun ‘till I got big!
Jiminy Cricket
I seldom ever see him
Especially at night,
"Cause he’s so small it’s easy
For him to stay out of sight.
And when I do get to see him,
I never get to pick him up,
And see just what he looks like,
(Like I do my little pup).
‘Cause just when I get near him
He ups and jumps away,
And leads me such a merry chase
That I don’t care to play.
But then, when evenin’ shadows
Gather ‘round the willow trees,
And the birds all stop their chatterin’
Like the buzzin’ of the bees.
And all my toys are put to bed,
And my ‘trike’ is by the door,
And it’s too dark to see to play
By sunlight anymore…
Why, it’s then he stops a-jumpin’
And leapin’ through the air,
And comes back to serenade
Me, beneath the stair.
I can’t see him ‘cause it’s too dark outside,
So I jus’ let him be…
Because I like to hear him sing
His funny melody.
I don’t know how he does it,
And I couldn’t do it if I chose,
But it’s a very pleasant song
And here’s the way it goes:
"Ker-rick! Ker-rick! Ker-rickety ree!
Ker-rickety! Rickety! Rickety-ree!"
And soon the other crickets
Join Jiminy Cricket too,
And they sing a serenade
The whole night through.
It’s such a quiet sort of sound
That you have to listen just right
Or you will never notice it,
It blends so with the night.
It’s then the birdies say goodnight,
You can hear their solemn peep…
As they tuck their babies in
Their nests and go to sleep.
And then my little puppydog
Lays his head between his toes
