God Speaks, I Write - Jan Phillips
Too Young To Die
This poem is dedicated in loving memory of our friend Leah Dawn Hanson who was sweet and loving.
There must be a reason why
That she had to die.
Though she was so young
Her praises could be sung.
Oh, she was so sweet,
The kind of kid you want to meet.
Not too long ago we talked into the night,
About our God and what was wrong and what was right.
She lived her life as we all should do,
Taking each day as it came straight through.
Her life was not all peaches and cream,
But oh how she could dream.
She was shoved from pillar to post,
With never a permanent host.
But God saw fit to take her away
From those who didn’t appreciate her anyway.
She was young in age, but old in many ways.
Seeing too much of life in her young days,
And if I could see her face to face this is what she would say,
"it’s okay, at least I have a permanent place to stay,
And when your day is over and your race is won,
You can come to see me through the Father and his Son.
And don’t regret the things you did or did not do or say,
For you must know that I loved you anyway!"
44327.pngHearts Don’t Forget
Sometimes our minds may wander
And are bodies aren’t too fit
But one thing you can count on
Hearts don’t forget
Names we can’t always remember
Til someone mentions it
Then we say Oh, yeah! Now I remember it.
But the face our heart never did forget
Names seldom come to mind
Faces often do
That’s when you know for sure
Your heart felt it too
We have a lot of memories
But times and dates are vague
You remember what you were doing with the face
Cause your heart won’t let you forget
Our minds can be like cloudy days
When things aren’t too clear
But once the sun comes out
Our hearts begin to cheer
Sometimes years go by
Before we see someone again
It doesn’t seem to matter much
They are just as precious as they have always been.
44325.pngGrandpa’s Girl
She’s the sparkle in his eye
She’s the sun in his sky
If he could save her life
Then he would gladly die.
She has captured his heart
She was so tiny at the start
He loved her even then
And knew they would never part.
It is special too
What grandkids say and do
They will twist you up in knots
And don’t even have a clue.
God help him from above
To give you all his love
So he can teach her well
How you fit her life like a glove.
When from this life he’s gone
She’ll still know right from wrong
And know he’s in a better place
And sing it like a song.
44323.pngTime Goes On
We wish our life away each day
The weekend is what we wait for
And no matter what we say
Waiting is such a bore.
Then you find the older you get
The faster time seems to go
We need to cherish every little bit
Needing the time to repay what we owe.
God has a plan that we don’t know
So live to the fullest each minute you can
When it comes time His plan he will show
Then you will wish through life you hadn’t run.
Stop and adore your maker of man
He is the one who gives you the time
To sit and watch the grass grow while you can
Wasting what He gives you would be a crime.
Make sure you constantly pray
Don’t just do it once each day
Give your time to God’s work
Then you won’t feel like a shirk
Don’t forget to give the devil his due
You have to fight him everyday too.
He is always there just waiting
To help you along with your hating.
He would like to defeat God you know
For he is our Savior’s deadly foe
He is always waiting and looking for lost souls
That is only one of his goals.
Pray to God as much as you can
That He will save the soul of every man
For if you are lost you are on the slope
Sliding down fast without a rope.
Let God catch you in his net
And save your soul even yet
Ask for forgiveness and believe in your heart
That Jesus died for you and did depart
That He came back and left once more
So that He could even the score
Now He is waiting in Heaven above
Ready to share his great love.
44321.pngAngels Among Us
God loves me so much that He gave his life for me
He even did that before I was born you see
He knew I was going to exist someday
He knew as a child I would sing and play.
So He sent an angel to look after me
One I could not even see
I was just a child way back then
I really didn’t know much about sin.
When I grew up the angel stayed
And I constantly prayed
Now I knew a lot about sin
I just didn’t want to let any in.
God gave me freewill to choose whatever
Between good and evil was my endeavor.
He knew what my choices were going to be
Even before I was able to see.
He left the angel to stay and see
That I was safe until He came for me.
My angel has no name that I know
But it stayed and watched me grow.
My angel will be with me until the end
When I will no longer need a friend.
Then I will be with Jesus above
And there I will know and feel great love.
44319.pngTo Our Granddaughter Gabrielle
When you were just a tiny thing you were oh, so sweet,
You were such a darling girl, good enough to eat.
I used to sing to you at night a song called Pick Up Sticks
Grandpa used to sing another song, he knew all the tricks.
As you grew you got to be as close as anyone could ask
I did wonder just how long that would last.
Sometimes I had to discipline you for things you shouldn’t do
But it was worth it then cause now just look at you.
You’ve grown into a woman now as beautiful as can be
Gorgeous from the inside out as anyone can see.
We can talk about anything and never judge each other
We discuss a lot of things one after another.
How can I tell you just how much you mean
To me and your Grandpa now that you’re nineteen.
Just so you know we love you very much
Nothing can come between you and us unless we lose touch.
So go out into your life and live it to the hilt
You have the best foundation anyone has built.
Give of yourself to God and He will lead you well
You will never have to worry He will keep you swell.
With all our Love,
Grandpa and Grandma
44316.pngHeaven’s Death
In loving memory of my niece Dianne James
I wish I knew just how to say
Why I’m not so sad today.
When you’re with God it’s not bad
Each of us should be glad.
Being sick for a long, long time
Can be a really hard way to climb,
To be with God in Heaven above,
When you could fly on the wings of a dove.
When God calls us home
We will no longer roam.
What we were sent here to do,
We have seen it through.
When God calls us home to Him,
It’s not just on a whim.
It means your job on earth is done,
That’s why he gave his only son.
God gave us a choice of what to do
Live for Him and He will take care of you.
He will take you home when it’s time to go,
Have no doubt your spirit will glow.
So live your life as you see fit,
Just remember not to quit.
Pray every day and you’ll be awed,
Then when your time comes you’ll go with God
44314.pngIt’s Your Day
As the day dawns,
The sky turns bronze.
You see the sun’s rays
As it rises on another day.
God makes it a beautiful day,
Whether you play or pray.
He put beauty in the sky,
Look above and you see why.
Whatever you do with your day
Just don’t ever forget to pray.
It makes things better
Even If you are a fretter.
It’s a day God has made
Just because you kneeled and prayed.
As the day wears on and you get tired,
There is still much to be admired.
The sunset has wonderful hues
And all you have to do is watch the views.
As the sky changes the way it looks,
It’s a picture you can’t find in books.
Once the sun sets and night begins,
Pray for forgiveness of your sins.
When you lay down to go to sleep,
Into your head the dreams will creep.
Depending on how your day has gone
What into your dreams are drawn.
Just be sure to have a wonderful day
That will keep the nightmares at bay.
Whatever you
