Byte Back - Ali Noel Vyain

    Chapter 1 Old Friends

Clairis and Watson were in the library together. She was updating the library archives and making sure the information was still intact. The two had worked together for quite a long time. Watson was keeping her company as neither Aug nor Mel needed him at the moment.

Clairis looked away from her screen at Watson. Watson, how long have we known each other?

I think as long as you have been the librarian here.

That long? That’s been quite a long time. Most of my life so far.

He chuckled. I remember when you arrived. Your hair was quite vibrant in its natural color. You seemed a bit unsure of yourself. But as soon as you got comfortable talking with Edward and Lyndsy Edmunch, you were fine after that.

She chuckled. Was my hair really vibrant?

Oh, yes. I almost thought you could be a fire nymph.

I’ve never been able to change into fire.

    Well, perhaps you’re not then.

Or at least not full blooded fire nymph. I do know I have a few nymphs as ancestors. So, it wouldn’t surprise me if that was showing. I guess those genes showed up in my hair when I was younger.

He shook his head. I never cared about that. I know I was relieved when you finally opened up to me. After that, you had no trouble asking for my help.

She smiled. Yes, it took me some time. I was on my first solo assignment and wasn’t sure if I’d like it. I had only been told about Edward and Lyndsy Edmunch when I was given the assignment. I did more research and wasn’t sure what to expect from either of them. I knew they were willing to house the Guardian Archives on their estate and that was about it.

That was before Aug was born.

Yes, that’s right. I don’t know when he was conceived, but that doesn’t matter. It wasn’t long before we all knew she was pregnant with a child.

I noticed when Edward was always fussy about her and requesting lot of little odd things for her comfort.

And you told me about it. That’s when I knew she must be pregnant.

And the news spread to everyone else working on the estate.

She laughed. Poor Lyndsy wasn’t too happy about that, but she didn’t complain about it. I think she knew better than to say anything. I’m just glad everyone was so kind to her after we all knew. I think it helped her cope towards the end when she was ready to give birth.

He nodded. I heard her mumbled about wanting to have her baby sooner than she did.

"That can happen. I’m just glad she got through the whole thing without much
