Broke - Mark DK Berry
A foot in both worlds
It’s no fun to watch what has begun,
as your watch moves backwards by the hour.
Waiting for that curtain call,
waiting to be caught in that shower.
Cast aside the thoughts of ebbing tides,
where the cold may seep into your bones.
This is your ride, your chance to step inside
the limousine you prayed to on the soul telephone.
And maybe you can drive in wheels of fortune,
and maybe you can feel the creeping edge.
Can you beat the drum to your own tune?
Can you find a way out through this mess?
Feels to me, like you have got a foot in both worlds,
makes you feel like you have got to choose the best.
The safest is always the easiest,
let the rest take care of the rest.
A wounded soul
The cold words of truth have been read.
Like a judgement, I am held in dread.
The steely nail pierces deep,
lost in shallows, always beneath
the even hold of my heart,
destined to be shot from the start.
There is no laughter as the toll-bell rings,
a wounded soul no longer sings,
nor can it free the burden of destiny.
Joy drips bleeding into the cold,
out of balance and makes no sense,
out of ways to recompense.
For fear of jumping at the fence,
a slow journey to return to strength.
Angel of the sun
This is from the man stood up on the hill.
This is to the child confused.
This is to the woman, hurting on her own.
This is from the one who causes ill.
Take me far away from here, make me forget.
I never asked for memories stained with regret.
I never could understand, I guess I never will,
sorrow, pain, insanity, without a cure, without a pill.
Oh, angel of the sun, it was a small wish I asked,
just to feel needed, just to last.
But walking through these gardens I felt the thorns cut in,
and now I ask for pardon if it’s true that I have sinned.
Barely came and went, she drifted past my door.
In greed I always wanted her, in truth I needed more.
Search my heart for shelter if ever there is time,
sitting, wait in silence, forgiveness of these crimes.
Take me far away from here, make me forget,
I never asked for memories so stained with regret.
I would have liked to hold, each moment like the last,
why must the future, so soon become the past.
I’d open my wounds, I would empty out my soul,
if I thought it would heal or change our mortal hold.
But time she spoke to me, and she called me away.
I’ll always try to look for you, just as I did today.
Bang bang bang, the Indians are coming!
Just when you think the West's been won, the cavalry been in town,
the agents of the civilised have put our minds in high-rise binds.
The sun rose on a good day, the river rolling on.
The captains gave the orders, the low-life carried on.
The sun sank on a good day, the wolves began to wake.
The souls burnt through the night sky, together in the wait.
Bang bang bang, the Indians are coming!
You might just not believe the war-dance of the tribes, waking from their sleep.
The captains of the uniform came to take control,
and brothers they succeeded in burning out all souls.
Bang bang bang, as the river turns around,
the Indians are coming, but you won't hear a sound.
Freeing in the wind, desirable, unknown.
Creatures of the night, darkness is their home.
Bang bang bang, the Indians are coming!
The vows have now been made.
Tribes of many colours,
the battle’s on its way.
Seeing across the nation, vision now is bright.
Belief is in a new way, putting up the fight.
Soon the truth will spread far across the land,
and strength will be in numbers as help will be at hand.
Take a new remedy from grey
