Back to the Garden - Tyler J. Thompson
FOR MY FELLOW HUMANS. ALL OF THE RARE GEMS THAT I’VE BEEN ABLE TO MEET, AND ALL OF THE MAGNIFICENT STRANGERS THAT I HAVE NOT. WE’RE IN THIS TOGETHER.
Bare
If I wrote some words today
what would people say
about the things
that make me feel
or that make me stray
If I poured out my heart
how would people start
to think of me
as being real
or would they all depart
If I held it all in
who would be my friend
to give advice
about this life
or try to help me mend
If I only let it build
would there be a guild
to help me through
this wily world
or clean the blood that spilled
If I don't choose to share
why would people care
about the things
that make me me
or reveal me when I'm bare
Words
I let them spew and flow
always leaving room to grow
they are never perfect
but always preface what I show
and it's something inside me
insidious to all greed
I simply choose to give
in hopes they'll plant a seed
to see past what we know
and change the status quo
the quotations of each other
that move us to and fro
Foresight
I saw you before I ever knew you
and it was true, this heart attack
on this path that was yet to even exist
I couldn't resist for you were heaven sent
and I was hell bent to go on the pursuit
I mean, shoot, could anybody blame me
don't betray me
, I said to my little heart
for this start had started sometime before time
a straight line that had no choice but to arrive
as sure as I'm alive, I am able to see
a great tree that started off as a tiny seed
my irrational need now became knowledge
but not college, rather it was to study you
so I flew on this once in a lifetime high
the stars aligned to let me meet your soul
and this hole inside me was finally filled
so I willed for our lives to fully connect
because this trek was destiny in the making
there's no faking, nothing was more real
and yet still it can never be guaranteed
so my plea was for this to last forever
yet, like weather, it couldn't be predicted
a love restricted by lies and expectation
then frustration once the path became askew
now I chew on every thought that arises
it was priceless but I chose to make a price list
so my demise is forever my own doing
stop brewing
, I screamed to my thoughts
insides tied in knots, I lose all vision
now this division, what is it that we'll be
selfish greed that snuffs out compromise
it's all lies, but we prefer to remain blind
I want rewind 'cuz we're right here on the brink
of wanting think that we'll be better off apart
back to the start... I knew you before I ever saw you
Think Now
The future so far
it may not exist
Act now, act now
always later we’ll fix
Feels good in the moment
so quickly it comes
Seeking out for atonement
for feasting on crumbs
Now wanting to change
fearing what lies ahead
Rising not sinking
partaking in bread
But so grand are the pleasures
right now we can feel
As fickle as weather
in ignorance we till
The future creeps up
and knocks on the door
Think now, think now
because we didn’t before
Sister
A demeanor so certain
can take on the world
but pull back the curtain
and see a young girl
It’s okay to be scared
and not know what’s right
but if your vision’s impaired
what good is your sight
There’s an eye deep within
that guides us to truth
that will steer us from sin
and points that are moot
It’s one day at a time
and one moment away
to see life as sublime
amidst all that is gray
Strip away the defense
for raw is what’s real
Always recompense
so a life you don’t steal
Now, the more you can see
the more a light shines
It’s who you show to be
in both good and bad times
History Repeats
What good are these words if they’re proven untrue
to spoil, to hurt, to bury us too
a decade to pass in the span of a thought
so much has changed but always leaving a clue
Is it good to just hear but not really care
to fake, to pretend, to not want to share
an opportunity lost over and over again
a healable victim trapped by despair
Can not slowing down ever bring peace
to be busy, to rush, to not think to cease
many doors passed without seeing they’re there
a life that gets folded without leaving a crease
The Middle
There’s a place in the middle
where true life exists
not in extremes of the rage
There’s a place in the middle
where you can be free
not in captivity of the cage
There’s a place in the middle
where you can be true
not in deceit of the game
There’s a place in the middle
where you can be you
not in the shadows of shame
There’s a place in the middle
this much I know
There’s a place in the middle
it’s not for show
There’s a place in the middle
that we’ll always grow
The middle, the riddle, the flow
Time
What is this thing
that forces all change
It passes so quickly
always seeming so strange
How is it real
if it can never be seen
It causes the storms
but is disguised as serene
Who can stop it
when it keeps rolling on
It deals to the kings
as it does to the pawns
Why do we watch it
thinking that it will heal
It wanders on
for it can never stand still
Answers
What is the purpose of this
The vapor from a floating mist
When reality seems like a myth
A movie of ceaseless plot twists
Why even start with this day
The methodical motions at bay
When arriving to show us a way
A path that’s not easy to stray
How can I close these eyes
The brain focused solely on tries
When truth seems to blend into lies
A world that wears a disguise
When will the pain dissipate
The hurt and the depressing state
When no one seems to relate
A greater life must surely await
There is love
I see love
I feel love
I know love
Paper Clip
In and out back and forth
here we go again
The irony is too funny
addicted to the sin
Carousel spinning ‘round
up and down and lights
Joy and glee you and me
flying with the kites
The hypocritical paper clip
decides to let you go
Get unfolded as you slip
it’s all just for the show
This and that, here and there
never to adjust
Laugh it off, wear a smile
addicted to the lust
Manifested destiny
it’s all mine by right
Hopscotching all my islands
constantly, I might
The hypocritical paper clip
decides to let you go
Get unfolded as you slip
it’s all just for the show
No means yes, yes means no
deceiving with your eyes
Confuse ‘em all and yourself
addicted to the lies
The swinging set, the flying low
the
