Induction motors are used for constant torque applications like steel mills, cement mills, and conveyors, and variable torque applications such as centrifugal pumps, fans, and compressors. Synchronous motors are used where constant speed is necessary, for improving power factor as synchronous condensers, and in electrical power plants as generators to keep frequency constant.
