Happy 2014! I hope you all had the opportunity to enjoy a few days of rest and special time with the family over this holiday season. January will be a busy month as we settle back into our classroom routines.

Stars of the week for this Month:


Star of the Week is well under way. All students will be given an opportunity to be the star of the week. Your child will receive the information package about being the star of the week on the Friday before their week. Please return the forms along with some special pictures chosen by you, to the school on the Monday of your childs week.

What were learning this month:


ELA:
We continue to experiment with Printing and Journal Writing. The students have been working on their writing. They are working on making spaces after every word, using upper case letters at the beginning of a sentence and adding a period at the end of their sentence. During Guided Reading time your child is learning the Beginning Strategies for reading.

Franais:
Winter Vocabulary

Home Reading:
Home Reading is in full swing and many students have already claimed prizes. The white Duotang will be a way to track your childs reading. note: Any books read with your child can count Please note towards the home reading sessions. Sight Word Practice: Continue to practice the list of sight words sent home. Please send a note in your childs agenda when you believe that he/she is ready for the next list of words.

Science:
- The themes this month include wrapping up our unit on the 5 Senses. Why they are important and what we can

do to protect them. - Students will also be introduced to the concept of materials by exploring various objects in their immediate surroundings.

Social Studies:
- My environment and making connections with others.

Math:
- Number recognition and addition strategies using various manipulative from 1-20. - We will also explore number patterns and skip counting by 2s, 5s and 10s. - Bigger than (>) and smaller than (<)

Health
- Healthy Life Style Choices Such as exercise and food choices.
