Problem #2
A 100-KVA, 60-Hz, 12000/240-V single-phase transformer is tested to obtain the equivalent
circuit parameters using a short-circuit test. The voltage applied to the 12000-V side is 600 V
with a short-circuit current equal to the rated current and short-circuit power of 1200 W.
a. Find Req and X eq .
b. Assume that the transformer supplies a load of 100 KVA at 240 V and 0.95 PF lagging
on the secondary side. Determine the voltage required at the primary side and the power
factor.
Problem #3
A 1.5 KVA, 220:110 V, 60 Hz, single-phase transformer gave the following test results:
Open-circuit test:
V = 220 V
I = 0.2 A
P = 25 W
Short-circuit test:
V = 16.5 V
I = 6.8 A
P = 40 W
a) Determine the voltage regulation for full-load at 110 V and 0.85 power factor
lagging. Use approximate circuit.
b) Determine the efficiency of the transformer at full-load, 110 V, and 0.85 power factor
lagging.
Problem #4
A 20 KVA, 2200/220 V, 60 Hz, single-phase transformer gave the following test results:
Open-circuit test:
V = 2200 V,
I = 0.152 A
P = 161 W
Short-circuit test:
V = 20.5 V
I = 91 A
P = 465 W
a) Determine the voltage regulation of the transformer for a rated load at 220 V and 0.8
pf lagging. Use the approximate circuit.
b) Determine the all-day efficiency of the transformer on a load cycle supplied at 220 V
and approximated by:
full load for 8 hours at PF = 0.8 lagging
50% full load for 8 hours at PF = 0.8 lagging
05% full load for 8 hours at PF = 0.8 lagging
