Introduction to Painting
ARTIST RESEARCH PROJECT
This is a short research topic over an artist. You will use information from art books as well as the internet. This is your chance to find an artist that really interests you and find out more about them. Sadly there will be a few artists I will NOT allow for this project Leonardo DaVinci VanGogh Claude Monet Pablo Picasso Michelangelo Andy Warhol Jackson Pollock
RESEARCH PROJECT Information to include: 1. Name of artist and artist biography which includes interesting facts about the artist. 2. Art period the artist is known for participating or making the greatest contribution (example- Post Impressionism, Impressionism, Renaissance, Surrealism, etc...?) 3. Who/ what were the artists influences and/or inspirations for the creation of the artworks? (other artists? War? Poverty? Dreams? Etc...) 4. In general, what type of artwork did the artist do the most? (Paintings, drawings, sculptures, photographs, etc...) 5. In general, what was the main source of subject matter? (landscapes, portraits, still lives, abstract, non objective) 6. Choose an artwork by this artist. For this artwork, give the credit line (where it is located, size, and medium and date). What was the purpose of this work? How do you know? Why did you choose this artwork? ( include a picture of this artworks INFORMATION TO INCLUDE You will be writing a report and presentation on this artist. Report will be 300 words, double spaced and submitted to my email at rwunderink@ismonagas.com. Include a bibliography of books and sites used. This paper must be typed using 12 point font- Times New Roman or Courier New. A visual must be created. You can choose a poster or some other aid to help present this artist to the class. The visual should include both text and pictures.
OTHER INFORMATION Once you have researched and presented this artist to the class, your next move is to create a painting based off the artist you researched. Things to keep in mind 1. Make sure you are generally interested in the artists work, since you will work with this artist for a long time. 2. You will have to do a painting using acrylic paint medium 3. You must relate your image to the artist but appropriate it somehow. This could be copying an image but making it modern, create a new image but in the artists style. 4.
