NOTES FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Student Pick-Up at End of Day

Parents, if you pick your child up at the end of the day
outside, please drive around the traffic circle. We will
have the students ready for you to pick up at the end of
the traffic circle. Please pull up as there is room, and
do not try to have your child get in your vehicle before
that.

Police, all were here at the school to assist and observe

the lockdown drill. Following the lockdown drill, the
Dean of Students and I met with them to debrief about
the drill and determine what went well and what could
be improved upon. I appreciate the assistance and
cooperation that we receive from our nearby law
enforcement agencies.

Also, if you are parked in the spaces in the parking lot,

please do not cut into the line of cars that has gone
through the traffic circle. Cars in the traffic circle
have the right-of-way. We are becoming extremely
congested by having cars in the traffic circle allowing
cars that are parked in the traffic spaces cutting into
the exit line of cars.

Thanks to all of the staff who were so helpful during

the lockdown drill and assisted with securing the
students in safe locations. Many of them did this
during their lunch periods and went out of their way to
help out. We will have at least one more lockdown drill
before the end of this school year. Schools are
required to have at least three lockdown drills during
each school year.

Goodbye to Ms. Miller
We have to say goodbye to Ms. Miller, our long-time
office secretary and friend to many students and staff,
as she has decided to take a vacant secretarial position
at the Neff Kindergarten Center, where she will be
reunited with former Delta Center principal Mr. Dave
Averill.
Her last day here at Delta Center will be
Tuesday, November 11th. We wish Ms. Miller the best
in this new phase of her career,
and were sure that the
students and staff there will
love having her in the office.
We will greatly miss her helpful
and friendly presence each day
in the Delta Center office. If
you see her in the coming days,
please wish her well as she
prepares to make this move.

Finally, I would highly recommend, if at all possible, to

please have your child ride the school bus. It is safe,
consistent, and will reduce traffic congestion at the end
of the school day (and beginning of the day, as well).
Our school and campus was never designed for the
amount of student pick-ups and drop-offs that we
currently have. I realize for many of you, however, that
this is not a feasible option. Thank you for your
patience and cooperation.

Lockdown Drill
Delta Center Elementary conducted a lockdown drill on
Wednesday during our lunch time. Many students were
either in the gym eating lunch or out on the playground
for recess. Our students and staff did a great job
following directions and making sure everyone was safe.
I invite parents to talk to their children about the
lockdown drill today.
One thing that everyone needs to remember is that
there are many different emergency scenarios that
could occur what would cause a lockdown of the school
to occur. The scenario today would have occurred if we
had experienced a threat outside of the school/in the
surrounding neighborhood or area. Different scenarios
require different procedures. Had the perceived
threat occurred inside the school during a recess
period, we would have followed a different plan. I don't
wish to post detailed plans or procedures on the
internet for the whole world to see, but please be
assured that we take school safety and security
seriously, and we plan for multiple scenarios, all of a
different nature.
