PRINCIPALS CORNER

Fire Alarm on Wednesday: Yesterday, our school was

experiencing difficulties with our fire alarm system,
resulting in an unexpected fire alarm during the
morning. Service technicians came out to the school and
worked on the system all day. They finished their work
this morning, and the system is fully functional now.
We don't expect to have any further issues now, but I
do want to make mention that the problem stemmed
from wiring between the main school building and the
portable classroom building. The age of the building and
the related wiring, coupled with being exposed to the
outside elements, has caused concerns that this may
indeed be an issue for us in the future, not just for the
fire alarm system, but all of the wiring and functions
out in the portable building. We are hoping that at some
point, the portables may be removed from our school
campus.
I appreciate the patience of the students and staff, as
they had to wait outside while the fire department and
the Delta Township Fire Marshall walked through the
building, making sure it was safe for people to return
inside.
.........................................................................................................
I would like to wish all of our Delta Center families a
safe and joyous holiday season. May your Winter Break
be one of time spent with family and friends, both
restful and relaxing. I look forward to seeing you all
back here in 2015!

KEEP TRACK OF THOSE LIBRARY BOOKS

OVER THE HOLIDAYS!

Reading is a wonderful part of traveling, visiting, and

sharing with friends and families. But more library
books are lost during the holidays
than at any other time of year! By
encouraging your child to take his
or her backpack while traveling, and
keep library books in the backpack
between readings, you can help
make sure that your child's library
books come back to school when
your child returns. Happy Holidays!
Happy Reading!

STORYBOOK ENDING FOR LAND OF

READ-A-LOT BOOK FAIR!

The Fall Book Fair was a resounding success this year,

with new books added to many D.C. households,
classrooms, and our school library! Hearty thanks go out
to Co-chairpersons, Mrs. Bethany Skinner and Mrs.
Avani Patel, who planned and coordinated the many
facets of preparing for, and conducting the Fair,
created the estimation game boxes, made many of the
decorations, scheduled volunteers, and worked many of
cashiering shifts as well! They and their families made
many sacrifices to help create the exciting event we
shared, and we are so grateful for their dedication and
many, many hours of work! Mrs. Peggy Allen was our
astounding artist and creator of the Knight in Shining
Armor at the Fair entrance, the Disappearing Dragon's
tail, and King Author's presence on the royal throne at
the center of the Fair!
We had record numbers of volunteers this year,
including craft instruction and coordination with Mrs.
Caylor's fifth grade students by Mrs. Briana Meyers,
who helped students create 'stained glass windows' and
wall sconces for the 'castle' walls, and Mrs. Michelle
LeBlanc, who created the Classroom WishList board
near the entrance. Thanks go out to Mr. Blake
Wegenke, who arranged for us to borrow the royal
throne from the High School theatre department, and
to the many families who donated food items for our
Staff Preview Open House, set-up and take-down
assistance, cashiering help and Fair maintenance, and
student tour assistance. Those helpers included:
Heather Batson, Lisa Parker, Misty Reiber, Noelle
Helmic, Allison James, Wendy Block, Kristin Geller,
Sara Jestila, Renee Campbell, Donna Moran, Sarah
Anderson, Karen Stewart, Dominic Smith, Mary
Russell, Jill Didion, Erica Bedolla, Jamie Cotie,
Heather Schlagel, Hillary Kohn, Michelle Klein,
Sunitha Vinod, Kristie Cutler, Ellie Darnell, Sue
Jandron, Jodi Joseph, Linda Irish, Marcie Walker,
Helen Carter, Allyson McCann, Rich VanCleave, Chris
Schultz, Carrie Caylor, Jeff Palacios, and many
others. Special thanks also go out to Mrs. Joy
McDevitt, who helped with set-up and donated portions
of the prizes for the estimation game winners. To all
our Delta Center Staff and Families, we thank you for
your support for our Fair! We have wonderful new books
to share and enjoy because of you!

PTO BRINGS AUTHOR, LAURIE KELLER TO

DELTA CENTER!
On December 9th our PTO brought Laurie Keller to D.C.
for the day to meet with our first, second, and third
grades. She spoke about her inspiration for her famous
books and their off-shoots, (Arnie the Doughnut,
Scrambled States of America, Open Wide, Tooth
School Inside, and Do Unto Otters), her writing and
revision processes, and she showed us how to draw
Arnie, the Otter, and many facial expressions! Ms.
Keller enjoyed being with us and marveled at the
wonderfully attentive and respectful young listeners at
Delta Center. Thank you, PTO! Meeting authors and
illustrators is awesome!
