    Where Minds Can Grow!


    January 16, 2015

    This Week

    We finished up our Jan Brett author study! We


    have read ALL of her books, learned all about Jan
    Brett, plus learned how to draw many of
    characters from her book! I hope you had the
    opportunity to visit her website, it has SO MUCH
    to do we couldnt possibly do it all at school!
    During theme, we completed our sloth Can, Have,
    Are chart where we recorded facts about sloths
    in the form of sloths can, sloths have, or sloths
    are. Its an easy way to get the children
    accustomed to learning about an animal and
    recording facts weve learned! We also signed up
    for construction jobs to make our life-sized sloth!
    The design crew met Thursday and Friday we
    began drawing out our sloth!
    Also this week, we had DIBELS testing (you will be
    getting your childs scores within the next week or
    two)!
    We also began a new venture: guided reading
    groups! I hope your child has come home and
    shared that they READ A BOOK all by themselves!
    During centers I am pulling 3-4 friends in a group
    and we are reading a book together! We are also
    using some fancy pointers to help us read, be sure
    to ask your child what they are!

    Next Week

    Sloth construction will be officially underway! I


    am hoping that our sloth will be hanging up by
    Friday! Fingers crossed! During our whole-group
    theme time, we will be reading books about the
    100th day of school to celebrate this special day!
    For shared reading, we will be learning all about
    Martin Luther King Jr.! We will spend the week
    learning about his life, and completing some very
    fun activities that deal with diversity and how no
    matter what color we are, we are all the same on
    the inside!

    EXCITING NEWS

    Next Tuesday, we will have an intern from Auburn


    University! Her name is Miss Dykes! She will be
    with us each day, all day, in her last step in
    learning how to be a teacher! I am excited to
    have her, and I know the kids will be too!

    The Blog!
    The blog is BACK UP AND RUNNING! Please be
    sure to check out the last NINE posts for some
    great pictures from Halloween to now! You can
    expect 1-2 posts/week from now on!

    Report Cards

    Please be sure to sign and return one copy of your


    childs report card on Tuesday! As always, be sure
    to let me know if you have any questions or
    concerns!
