Report Roles of Computer in Education
Introduction
I was assigned to prepare a report for Dr. Fariza Binti Khalid as my first
assignment to identify The Role of Computer as A Tool, Tutor and Tutee in
Education. I utilised Google as my domain search engine and completed my
task by using Google Docs. I too shared the document file with my
groupmates as the task was a collaborative work at first however the report
had to be submitted individually on Weebly.
Discussion
1. e-Education (Tool)
As the world gets more advanced in terms of technologies and
development, the education field also experiences transformation. In this
new era, the traditional kind of learning where a teacher teaches in front
whereas the students need to jot down whatever is written on the
whiteboard has changed to a more advance method of teaching involving
various kind of gadget and electronic devices called e-Education.
The role of computer is highlighted through e-Education where
educators and students have video conference regardless of their locations.
This distance learning of course has its pros and cons but what more prior is,
it is convenient because no one needs to set a specific time or place for
teacher-student meetings. This emphasises the role of computer in a new
way of learning as in computer as a tool.
Next, students also stand the chance to take online courses through
this system. Courses like French Language and Distance Education are
unavailable to be enrolled in some universities so this matter can be resolved
by taking them online. The perks of taking online courses they offer a wide
variety of courses in any field and enable students to cross borders of
nationality, race, religion and others.
In conclusion, computers which act as tool signify the positive growth of our
education system towards a diverse style of teaching and learning in schools particularly. Such
innovation like e-Education itself must have raised a number of responses from many. However,
we will adapt to it eventually because sooner or later, education evolves.
2.
Therefore,
Computer-Assisted
Instruction
(CAI)
had
been
introduced.
The teachers have to ensure the students have computer skills and
literacy, decide the appropriate learning objectives, plan the sequential and
structured activities to achieve the objectives and evaluate the students
achievement.
Learning can be reinforced through repetitive exercises so students can
practise basic skills or knowledge in various subject areas. In CAI
programmes, the computer presents a question or problem first then the
student is instructed to answer or respond to it. Immediate feedbacks are
given based on students answer. Some examples on CAI are simulation
programmes, instructional games, problem-solving software, multimedia
encyclopaedia and electronic books (e-Book).
In the future, we should view computers in school as a common tool for
the enhancement of students thinking, communication and collaboration
skills. Computers will become an integral component of the future classroom
