Entry 2: Technology to Enhance Instruction

Integrating Instructional Technology
It is important to assist students with different methods of learning a subject. Students
learnings vary according to the individual student. Technology would facilitate and enhance
instruction in the classroom by using note taking, graphic pre programs, and interactive digital
media. Making teaching and planning easier for the teacher and student by integrating
instructional technology.
Note Taking
This technology process is believed to enhance a students comprehension and retention,
With the power of note taking software, students can increase their comprehension and capture
more content. (Gunter & Gunter 2011) Note taking in the classroom would make stopping in
the middle of lecture to repeat so students can complete a note. Students would have accurate
notes for future reference without error or miss communication. They would use these notes to
complete homework assignments if questions arise while away from the teacher. During class,
note taking would be a source for the students to write a journal entry in their own words of what
they learned in todays lesson. Note taking would be used for math vocabulary comprehension
and procedure steps toward solving a mathematic question or creating their own mathematical
problems to share with peers. Mathematical Practices 1. Make sense of problems and persevere

in solving them. 4. Model with mathematics. 5. Use appropriate tools strategically. 6. Attend to
precision. 7. Look for and make use of structure. 8. Look for and express regularity in repeated
reasoning. (Arizonas College and Career Ready Standards, 2013) The math practices would be
implemented in note taking to have student success or to apply standards accordingly.
Graphic Pre Programs
With graphic pre-programs teachers can introduce a subject lesson or review further on a
lesson to captive and retain the students attention. Teachers can create and integrate electronic
presentations into any classroom curriculum as an exciting alternative to traditional lecture-only
teaching style. (Gunter & Gunter 2011) I will use this program in my classroom to show videos
to show how others teach the same concept. Slides on how one problem can be done in various
ways to arrive at the same result. I will also use it to input vocabulary and objectives for the
lesson. Mathematical Practices 1. Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them. 2.
Reason abstractly and quantitatively. 3. Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of
others. 4. Model with mathematics. 5. Use appropriate tools strategically. 6. Attend to precision.
7. Look for and make use of structure. 8. Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning.
(Arizonas College and Career Ready Standards, 2013) Each one of these practices can be
touched with a graphic preprogram like power point. Explaining, clarifying, demonstrating and
interactive participation of a lesson should assist in enhancing students academic learning with
comprehension and retention.
Interactive Digital Media
Interactive digital media can help enhance students learning, allows them to see what
they can do and both students and teachers monitor the progress, by providing individual
instruction and exploration; allowing students to examine their skills in a risk-free environment;

and providing instant feedback, testing and review. (Gunter & Gunter 2011) I will you use this
interactive digital media in my classroom not only to help students with success in math but also
to monitor areas that the student(s) need help for academic achievement in math lessons. I will
seek out programs that will correlate with the state standards but will also be fun learning. I
know from listening to my current students that math is not everyones favorite subject but there
is no reason why I cannot do it in a fun learning environment on occasion.
Pros and Cons of using Technology to Facilitate Learning (200-300 words)
The pros of using technology to facilitate learning are students success and teachers
ability to enhance learning if disabilities may exists, effective for high-ability students as well
as students with mild to severe disabilities (Weselby, 2014) Another pro is the ease in which
teachers can search and research what will assist students to learn math concepts as the state
standards require. Technology will also make presentation of lessons easier backed with
objectives and activities for the students to partake in to enhance their comprehension and
retention of the lesson, being algebra, ratios, fractions or any other math concepts. Of course this
style of technology is not exclusive to math, but could be applies to any and all subject of study.
But like there are pros to the use of technology, there are also cons to the use of technology. A
con would be that students may not be presented with this style of teaching their future studies
and not know how to handle such situation. Then there is the con that not all students have access
all the time to internet and cannot complete online assignments or activities away from school.
Another is too much technology and we may lose sight of what is important, In our fast-paced
world in which technology grows every day, it is important not to lose our priorities and values.
(Sobejano, I. 2014) Technology will impact my classroom by ensuring that all styles of

technology are introduced. Explain the reasons behind using various styles of technology for
different math studies.
Wired and Wireless Classrooms (100-200 words)
A wireless classroom is what most K-12 schools and higher learning facilities use. Many
colleges, universities and K-112 schools have installed wireless networks and are utilizing
wireless computers and other wireless devices. (Gunter & Gunter 2011) A wired classroom is
nonexistent in todays classrooms because the devices being used are wireless. Wired
classrooms were used when computer wired into walls were the only devices used along with
software prior to the world web. Pros of wireless is that most devices can connect with the
internet and communication lines are open no matter where you are. You can use your iphone,
ipad, and ipod with wireless connections. The cons is that if there is no free wifi you will need to
pay to connect to the internet and that can be very costly. Also your devices will not work where
there is no wireless connection available. These two access methods impact will impact my
teaching and student learning by not being able to communicate promptly if only devices work
only on wired connections or if there is no wireless connection my students will not be able to
complete an assignment or contact me with questions that may arise.
Conclusion
With technology teaching and learning is made easier. Technology also enhances the way
we teach and learn. I see how note taking, graphic pre-programs and interactive digital media has
helped students in present time and I can only see it growing. With the growth of ways to obtain
lecture information with easy notes; programs where we can compose lessons with video, sound
and images and digital media that allow students to practice for reinforcement the learnings of
students and teachings of teachers with enhance tremendously. I for one see only successful

academic growth in implementing these technologies in my future class. How do you plan to
teach your students and using which tools?
