Part 1: Assessment Technology

Polldaddy is one of the incredible sites to start an assessment. Creating your

own assessment page is just an introduction to becoming an internet technologist
for todays educator. Follow this link to view the quiz for the 2 nd grade Mathematics
class: http://evansmyra47.polldaddy.com/s/counting. After you have accessed the link

please follow directions to the quiz. The quiz is short and simple to follow. This quiz is a review
of the different tests that have been given in the classroom. Each question have been taken from
each quiz that has been previously given after each chapter studied. This quiz is formative
which at the end of the quiz after results have been given, it will then become a summative
chapter quiz. This quiz will be used to change or inform the instructional practices due to the
questions. There is an answer key attached of this quiz following the reference page.
Part 2: Blog Post
Introduction

Assessment Technology is an advance method used by educators to support assessment

whether formal assessment or summative assessment in education. Utilizing software to
support assessment is important to help aide the educator of a students knowledge that has been
attain and need to be improved or developed in more depth. It is also important and used to
assist the educator in finding the analysis of the knowledge of the learners as an individual or as
a classroom corporately. Using technology in assessment is an advantage in conserving time and
materials. One advantage of eAssessment is that is it may provide immediate feedback; when
this is the case, you can update or change online material, just in time to meet students needs,
(Gunter, & Gunter. 2014). Technology to facilitate ongoing efforts to assess student learning,
formative and summative assessments, and the important of assessment technology in connection
with the ISTE standards will be the focus of this paper.

Technology to Facilitate Ongoing Efforts to Assess Student Learning

You can incorporate resources here to validate your rationale on how technology
facilitates assessment. You can use subheadings to define specific sections of your paper.
Teachers can use technology to facilitate the ongoing efforts to assess student learning in the
classroom to save time, make sure the student is getting the full benefits of an assessment, and to
make sure that the teacher is giving the student proper assessment that is needed for the
curriculum. This is to properly analyze the student as to formative assessments; making sure that
the student is on the right path to getting the necessary education that is needed. Then after the
formative assessment is been administered the summative assessment can be administered
because the formative assessment has helped the educator give the proper adjustments for the
student to be prepared for the summative assessment.
(Google Doc Presentation or PowerPoint) The teacher can use this specific software
to assess student learning by creating a PowerPoint Google Doc presentation to make a shared
document for the entire class. This document will include a shape or an area in which a student
can write a question he or she has about the content area of the subject, (Gunter, & Gunter.
2014). The teacher would use the PowerPoint or Google Doc presentation to assess in the
classroom by performing the presentation on a slide or have the students to watch a video of the
presentation. This is done for an example for the student to get an idea of how this presentation
is to be done.
(Multiple-choice questions and technology) Teachers can use this specific software to
assess student learning when there is a large group of students to be assessed. The multiplechoice questions can be in the form of yes or no true or false or students must choose or match a

series of statements or reasons. This form of assessment is used both formative and summative.
It is also a time saver and is easily administered. The teacher can use this type of assessment in
the classroom by converting from paper and pencil to computer. Questions can be stored from
which question papers are generated and printed out. Papers can be generated as a standard test,
where everyone gets the same questions, or alternatively randomly, where everyone has a
different test, and tests of varying levels of difficulty can be distributed. (Joanne Bull, 1993).
(Interactive Whiteboards) Teachers can use this specific software to assess student
learning delivering ongoing assessments and collecting immediate student data by using a
student learner response system. The data collected can be used to determine what the student
need at the present moment. This allows the educator to respond to the student in a timely
manner. Educators can prepare questions ahead of time and as the student is in process of
learning the educator can adjust to the need of the student during the progression of the
assessment, (Gunter, & Gunter. 2014).

(Formative and Summative Assessments)

There are two types of assessments; formative and summative. Formative assessment is
the evaluation of student learning based on a specific time span at multiple points by gathering
various activities and assignments to make sure the learner is developing the knowledge, skills,
and ability to master the content. Summative assessment is the process of evaluating the student
learning at any given time. (Gunter, & Gunter. 2014). The difference between the two is that the
formative assessment is assessing the student during the process of learning and can be
adjusted to fixate the need while in progress. The summative assessment on the other hand is

giving a test or pop-quiz to do the summation of the progress or what the student has learned
from the overall knowledge of the subject.
(Pros and Cons of using Technology to Facilitate Assessment)
Pros are the main benefit of using technology to facilitate assessment is teaching that
enable the teacher to present in formation in a variety of ways. This is to aid the teacher to
administer assessments in a timely manner. Teaches need a variety of ways to administer
assessments to keep them from getting burnt out by overworking themselves grading papers.
Technologys advantage is to response more efficiently, effectively, and promptly. It allows the
students an advantage knowing that the needs of the students will be met by adequately
monitoring the students knowledge overall and as a whole to what is being learned so that the
educator can effectively respond appropriately. Cons on the other hand have a disadvantage of
losing power to the technology source (if it is electronic). It is also a disadvantage if the
technology has not been administered properly or if the student has not knowledge of use of the
device to be used.
(Should a teacher only use technology to assess student learning? Why or why not?)
A teacher should not only use technology to assess student learning because with
anything that is man made it can always have a glitch in it. Viruses can occur or there could be a
falter in the soft wear. Some assessments are based upon the number of students that are being
administered and when a small group or if the educator is thorough there is no need for
technology. Depending upon the assessment because some can be administered by paper and
pencil which are formative assessments.
What is the importance of assessment technology in connection with the ISTE standards?

The importance of assessment technology in connection with the ISTE standards is to

help track the systems progress toward meeting the ISTE standards benchmarks. To accurately
assess and evaluate technology used within a system. For students it helps them to be creative
and innovative, communicate and collaborate, research and have information fluency, and
students have critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making. For teachers the ISTE
Standards allow educators to facilitate and inspire student learning and creativity, design and
develop digital age learning experiences and assessments and model digital age work and
learning. (International Society for Technology in Education, 2015).
Concluding Paragraph for Software to Support Assessment
In conclusion, software to support assessment is valuable. Valuable because this is the
21st century which is the century of technology. Looking back over the years and observing the
distance that technology has come so far, it would be devastating to try and change what has
taken place to improve and advance education to its highest peak. Technology is the one of the
purposes for education to develop and invent materials to bring knowledge to students and
educators at a rapid speed with the most accurate information that is known to mankind.
