Students, at the end of the lesson, will be able to form a complete argument,
based on personal opinion if they wish to raise minimum wage or keep it the
same.

10 students in the class, 4 male and 6 female, all come from a low economic
standing, most have jobs outside of school that pay minimum wage.

Students have learned about taxes most recently while also learning about
other factors related to minimum wage.
Introduction
Students will discuss what the minimum wage is currently for Ohio. They will
also explore what some of the wages are in other states.
Activities /
Procedures
Students will be split into two opposing groups. Each group will be given an
article on minimum wage. Based on what their goal is, either raise min. wage
or keep it the same (assigned at the time of the split), and they will read
None.
Will have whole class discussion, small group discussion, arguing a point of
view, and then individual work at the end of class.
Materials
Copies of Articles and computer and smart Board.
Closure
Exit slip with their personal opinion and why, they will also be given one final
article to read over.
Closure: Describe how you will end your lesson by restating or reinforcing your lesson goals and
encourage students to use this new learning in other contexts.
Assessment
Formative
Students will be asked for understanding, and their discussion during the
lesson will be observed.
Summative
Exit slip for 10 points to understand if they comprehended the information on
minimum wage.
Formative: Describe how you will informally assess your students throughout the lesson e.g.
questioning, whole class responses. Keep in mind that you may need to adjust your plans based upon
student feedback you receive.
Summative: Be very specific about the formal assessment you will use at the end of the lesson to
measure whether you have meet your lesson goals. Attach the actual assessment if appropriate. This
assessment may need to be modified for individual students. The information gained from your
assessment should be used to provide feedback to your students and to guide your future lessons.
