    Paul Dennison from AAMCO #24971
    Summerville, SC sent in this tech tip on a
    2005 4L65-E Chevy Tahoe with no lock up.
    Paul writes that his center had an
    Interhops on a 2005 Tahoe where full
    converter lock up would not happen. He said
    the command was there, but the slip at best
    was around 130 rpm.
    When researching the pump Paul found
    that this unit has an early and late stator. On
    the late stator the converter apply hole has
    been moved to accomodate a sensor (which
    is not used in all models).

    The unit Paul had did not use the sensor,


    but stilll should have had the later stator. It
    appears the center who last repaired this
    installed the early design stator that does not
    have a hole for the oil to flow through to the
    pump cover. This created the no lock -up
    problem.
    Paul was unable to get the later stator
    so he drilled a hole at the side of the the early
    stator.

    Connect hole so the oil can enter the early stator from the
    late pump.

    Drilling the hole at the side allows the oil to


    enter the early stator. Paul said it works well.
    He has done this on two transmissions now
    with no problem.
