Schedule,
My favorite part of this tradition occurs at the end of the brief service when all five
congregations begin to process around Monument Ave. A spectrum of ages, races, and
theological traditions walk side-by-side bound by a common call to love Jesus and love our
neighbors. I especially appreciate that we literally walk the cobblestone together. With each
step our whole being is reminded of a fundamental posture that the church has in the world:
we are sent people.
Indeed, it is right after Jesus resurrection that Jesus tells his followers,
As the Father has sent me, so I am sending you. As Jesus came into
the world to love, serve, heal, and save so, too, we are sent into the
world.
Today, I give thanks for all the ways in which we are currently giving
embodied, concrete expression to Christs love in Richmond - you will
note plenty of examples as you read through this months Grace
Notes!
I am also grateful because our walk with the Stuart Circle Parish is not
a once-a-year endeavor. Currently, our five congregations continue to partnering to embody
Gods Gospel work by organizing the annual Good Friday Blood Drive (a big thank you to
our many participants and volunteers!). As well, the Parish has been steadily working to lift
up the importance of a rapid transit system for metropolitan Richmond that will help ensure
all have access to good jobs, medical care, and food.
All of this is, of course, in keeping with a portion of our vision statement from the 2012
Mission Study: We will do justice and love mercy in service to the Lord. We will resist the
temptation to indulge in excessive security or abundance for ourselves and instead humbly
go out into the world to live lives of abundant generosity to others, especially those in need.
The Vanguard Class, Basement, Room B4: (Mens Class) Studying the parables of
Jesus Christ. A particular mens view on these amazing verses.
The Forum of Grace Class: Second Floor, Room 203: A study of the Parables of
Jesus
Good Books Class: Third Floor, Room 303: All are invited to dive into these theological classics
with us. Having finished our time with Martin Luther King, Jr.'s Strength to Love, we will be switching to read and
discuss Martin Luther's The Freedom of a Christian from April 10 - 24, and John Calvin The Christian
Life (selections from his writings) from May 1 - 22. If you'd like to get on our email list, simply contact Nelson
Reveley atnmr2uf@virginia.edu.
Youth Mentoring Class: Third Floor, Room 300: Each week volunteers and parents
meet with teens to connect media to scripture in a way that is personally meaningful to
our students. Currently in the book of Genesis!
Toddlers Class, First Floor, Room 102: This class focuses on spiritual development and early access to scripture through play and kinesthetic learning.
Elementary Class, Second Floor, Room 209-210: Taught by our awesome volunteers this class builds faith in young children and challenges them to apply lessons
from scripture to everyday life in school, at home and at play.

Six Summer Suppers: Cooking
with the Bible. Study and a Family Meal
together
A meal that stole Esau's blessing, Joseph dining with his brothers in
Egypt, the meals John the Baptist took in the wilderness... many of
our favorite accounts from scripture center around the meal.
This summer we will collect around an ancient rhythm, eating foods our
biblical mothers and fathers ate, while we
dig into the scripture that surrounds the
meal. Wednesday evenings from 6-8pm.
If you would like to host a meal this
summer in June 15 to July 27, contact
Christopher Tweel!
Warmly in Christ,
Michelle and I remain deeply humbled and appreciative for the Bobby
immensely loving welcome you gave Leo last month at his churchwide baby shower. Leo may never know the full extent to which he
has been welcomed in love. You offered your time, your energy, your
food, and your thoughtfulness, your gifts, and your favorite books
(which we have already begun reading to him!). Such graciousness on
your part is an embodiment of the Gospel and we cannot say thank
you enough. Of course, our thanks is not only for the shower, but for
your faithful prayers over this past year. We believe God truly hears
the prayers of the faithful, and Leo is Gods answer to the many
prayers you offered on our behalf. As we look forward, we remain grateful knowing that this family of such grace
is the family who will first teach him about the love and knowledge of Jesus Christ.
Love,
Michelle, Bobby, and Leo

A message from Circle Center
Did you know Grace Covenant helped start one of the first adult day
cares in Virginia? Well we did! It started in 1976 as a project of the Stuart Circle Parish, an organization of Five Fan District Churches, all of who contributed to its support. We
continue that support of Circle Center Adult Day Services as they celebrate their 40th Anniversary! For the
next 4 weeks well be updating you on Circle Center and our campaign: Forty Dollars for Forty years!
Circle Center provides adult day care for seniors who cannot or should not be left alone, allowing them to
stay in their home instead of a nursing home. Six days a week they provide support and activities for seniors
and their caregivers. Join the campaign to support Circle Center with Forty Dollars for Forty Years.
Look for Charlie Appich, a member of our congregation who serves on Circle Centers Board of Directors. If
you missed his/her mission moment reach out and ask him/her about the Center and why he/she volunteers. Join the campaign to support Circle Center with Forty Dollars for Forty Years.
Circle Center Adult Day Services wants YOUto visit, volunteer, support and contribute to our campaign: Call Circle Center at 804-355-5717 to setup an appointment. Come visit our state-of-the art facility
and see how the seeds this church planted forty years ago have grown. Forty Dollars for Forty Years! Thank
you for all youve done over the years, you made it happen! Look for an envelope in the commons area.

add this bit in brackets to Grace Notes, can leave it out of bulletin -- As many know, the Nehemiah Action brings together a large witness of God's faithful to encourage and
call upon local leaders to make decisions on specific issues that enable our
whole region to flourish. A recent success has been the City's Affordable Housing Trust Fund, which RISC helped push across the finish line and has generated nearly 200 new and rehabilitated affordable housing units, as well as special
hosing related services for more than 220 families and people who are homeless.]]
This year we are focused around two areas: (1) improving reading levels for the
5,000+ elementary school students who are currently reading below grade level
in Henrico County, and (2) creating low-cost job training opportunities for entry-level health care positions. Your presence standing with our kids and those
who are un and underemployed means an enormous amount and is influential.
We need you there so that we can have as powerful a voice and witness as possible! For questions or more information, please contact Nelson Reveley

After receiving ashes, I went to research the topic in more detail. I realized that while there exists no Bible
verse that says we must observe Ash Wednesday or impose ashes, there is a good theological reasoning underpinning the service. In many ways, the service enacts our call to confess our sins to another, to weep with
one another, and to know anew the Gospel hope (which can only be appreciated by naming, not avoiding, the
darkness).

Weekly Sunday Morning Prayer
The best way to start a Sunday morning, or any morning, is with prayer. Each Sunday morning
from 9:15 to 9:30 a.m. in the Social Room we have a time of prayer and all are welcome to
participate. It is a prayerful time when hearts are quieted and focused on God, joys and concerns
are shared, and prayers are raised in word and in spirit. It is a special time of caring, friendship, and
blessing; please come and pray with us.
