ART CARTER FAMILT, Missionaries, CHURCH OF CHRIST

Arthur Carterj Sr,, U208 Naomi Drive, Louisville, Kentucky

Januaiy 1966
Dear Christian Friends,

God has seen fit to grant us the beginning of one more year of service in His Kingdom. One more year to win the lost, our loved ones, friends, neighbors, and to send the Gospel of Salvation into all the world. Believe me brethern, this may be the last opportunity for us to do the task which is ours - "Go ye into all the world preaching, teaching, and baptizing those who believe

This year of 1966 has certainly started off bright with opportunity.

The

missionaries in Brazil are nov^ in their annual conference programming the evan

gelistic efforts, printing projects, radio correspondence programs, and the plant
ing of new churches throughout all Brazil. There have been several families added to our work force in Brazil and there are many recruits now preparing for service. The new church here in Louisville, Ky. is now trying to locate in Fern Crees, a suburb of Louisville. We are dealing with a party on the purchase of a large brick church building, which will seat 300 to 350 people with 22 Bible School rooms,
and with adequate parking. This building is located on one of the main highways

here in the area. The Louisville churches are also working with us on the procuring of this church property. We ask your prayers that God's will may be done.

NEWS FROM THE FIELD; There has been a tremendous amount of rain fall here in Central

and southern Brazil, until many areas are flooded out and many

landslides have injured and killed many people. It has even flooded our lower Bible School Dept. A former witchcraft (spiritism) leader has been converted to the Lord, making a great witness for God in our work. We have many folk sick in the church, which keeps us very busy with our calling, services, and nightly cottage meetings. The folk have cleaned up the entire church building, painting inside and out. Everything is like new from top to bottom. The Christmas program was a great success and we started the new year with midnight services in prayer, ending the service vdth the baptisms of several persons. Reported by Robert Smith

The family is fine at the present time, enjoying the fine weather. Last year it was so cold for so long with a quite a bit of snow, that I think they got their fill for sometime. I have been bothered for several weeks with double vision again, however, it v/as not a sign of the return of the pituitary tumor, but rather a con dition of the eye lids. I am now taking treatment for my eyes and my sight is much better now, thank the Lord. It was so bad that I couldn't drive, but I'm back on the road once again. We do ask and need your prayers for our health and that God's
will maybe fulfilled in our lives.

IVe want to thank all the churches, church groups, and individuals who helped

make our Christmas a fuller one by gifts and cards. V/e also want to express our love, gratitude, and thanks for the support and prayers of all the brethern through out the years. May the Lord bless you as you take part of this triple missionary
effort new being made. Remember us daily in prayer.
In Christian Love,
Art & Marlene Carter

ART CARTER FAIvlILY, Missionarieq, CHURCH OF CHRIST

;FOKiVARDING AGENT: Arthur Carter^ Sr., U208 .Naomi Drive, Louisville, Kentucky

We are really having a bad winter here in Kentucky with one of the greatest snow falls since 1917. Y/e have been digging out for days with still a month and a half of bad weather to go. There has certainly been enough snow for the girls to get the making of snowmen and snow ball fights out of their system. It is odd to realize that down in Brazil it is summertime with high temperatures, crowded beaches, and
many sun burned bodies. We have certainly been busy these days with the regular schedule of teaching and preaching plus the preparation of speaking dates for a new

missionary who will be with-^ for three we^ksj the preparation-of^sTorld wide-missions, class for the week of Christian living; the preparation of pre Easter church buildup; the speaking engagements for the Brazilian work; the preparation for the Louisville church census; and the work necessary to the procuring of the new church building here in Louisville, Ky. We have taken a 60 day option on th6 new church building here in Louisville, which will expire the lUth day of March. We hope to have all the necessary arrangements made before this expiration date. We do need and ask your prayers and support that this opportunity may become a reality for the gloiy of God
and the advancement of New Testament Churches here in the Louisville area.
NEt'JS FROM THE FIELD;

The church in Belo Horizonte is having a revival meeting this month from the 13th to 20th virith Gerald Homquist,

missionary to Anapolis, as evangelist.

There is much work

being done in preparation for this revival.

The missionary conference has just ended in Sao Paulo with much good coming from the meeting concerning the evangelization in other cities here in Brazil, the extend

ed correspondence course, radio work, and the extension of

our Christian literature through our publishing house.

Heavy rain falls have flooded many of the cities causing land slides which left many people without dwelling places,
injured many people and caused many deaths.

There have been several more accept Christ as their Sav iour since our last news letter. Reported by Robert Smith We have received news from the non-instrumental Church of Christ that in 1968 there

will be 100 be doctors, (the Church Christ does and a large

or more highly-trained missionaries working in Belo Horizonte. Some will school teachers and other professional people* The Christian Chronicle of Christ paper) states that the Lord's Church or the true Church of not exist in Belo Horizonte and they are going to establish this church university in which to teach native evangelists. V/e, of course, resent

the statement that we are not the Lord's church because of the use of the instrument

in the worship service We have written these people asking why they would not go in smaller groups to any of the 20 other large cities in Brazil that has the population

of over 500,000 to ^ million which truly have no New Testament Churches. We find

it peculiar that those who preach and teach the same word as we, would find it nec essary to send such large numbers to just the cities where v/e have work and thus ignore all other areas throughout this land of 90 million people. We do ask that you pray for them that the love of God and the Spirit of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ
might be instilled in their hearts and that the true li^t of love and understanding
might direct their paths.

Most of the family are quite well at this time.

I will probably be fitted for

glasses beoau&eof-the wak-muscles-of the-left-eye which continue to cause thia

double vision. I am trying to find enough time in which to have a minor operation on Boy nose (sinus), which has caused me unending headaches since the last of September. I am doing as little driving as possible but am still able to get around and do all
the work that needs to be done. I do ask your prayers in behalf of n^y health.

ViTe do thank each and everyone who have continued to stand behind us with constant prayers and support, making the Brazilian work possible and even this new work here in Louisville; plus the opportunity to teach missions in the Bible College and raise
up recruits for world evangelism# May the Lord continue to bless and reward you un
endingly as you serve faithfully His Son and His Church.

In our small congregation here in Louisville, Kentucky we have one charter member who is a shut-in her name is Hester Skaggs and she is loved by each and every one in the congregation. She certainly dislikes missing services during bad weather; however, she is always with us in spirit. When the weather is permissible one of our members goes byand picks her up and takes her home. She needs assistance with stairways and the church steps, which do not hinder her from
coming to the church services.

The ladies of the church are always thinking of her such as they did this Valen tine's Day, They made a Valentine tree (each limb with a Valentine with a love Scripture

and signed by a member of the church there were about 36 hearts). She was so happy and said she would look at them over and over and finally pitf them

ART CARTER FAMILY, liissionaries, CHURCH OF CHRIST

Arthur Carter, Sr., It208 Naomi Drive, Louisville, Kentucky-

Dear Christian Friends,

This 'letter comes very late in the month because of several reasons. First,
much of our time has been taken with the arranging of many meetings, the formulating of many documents and the settling of many problems concerning the purchase of the n&vi church property and building for the permanent location of the Second Christian

Church. There have been many problems and difficiilties in procuring this location, however, the Lord is leading and blessing us in every respect. Consequently, we
should be in our nevf location around Easter. There are many things which we will

be needing, such as pews, pulpit furniture, chairs and teaching equipment. If any church or individual v/ould want to help this new congregation with any of the above items, then please rest assured that your help is needed and appreciated. This
n&fi congregation will have a tremendous financial burden at first, however, we are

happy to us.e our time and energies while on our medical leave to help make this church a new reality. We do knovf that the brethern will surely need your prayers

and support at the outset of this great undertaking for God. We are just happy to be counted worthy to share in a part in the building of this new congregation. The
second reason that the newsletter is so late is that I have been busy taking deep

therapy treatments for the return of the pituitaiy tumor.

I started taking these

treatments the 28th of February and vfill probably finish;these series of treatments
the first part of April. The reoccurance of the tumor avas discovered in the dis turbance of vision and the return of headaches. This treatment is supposed to

finish the problem completely without concern of future trouble.

I will have to

spend some time in the hospital for the balancing of the metabolism to find out just what medicines ngr system will be needing for the future. e do need your con stant prayers, support, and understanding during this time of health problem while we yet try to carry on the mission work, the work of the new clnii-ch, and the teach ing of missions in the Louisville Bible College.
NEVJ3 FROM THE FIELD:

The church in BgIo Horizonte is arranging all the legal documents and articles of incorporation so that they can function as an independent
church such as the churches here in the states.

Daily Vacation Bible School reached the enrollment of 127 children

with youth and women of the church helping with the teaching and
handicraft.

Evangelistic meeting was just ended with 13 making their confession and being baptized. Two more accepted Christ and were immersed. Four men of the congregation attended the Men's Retreat held in Brasilia and truly received a spiritual blessing, they are all on fire and ready to start to v/ork. Plans are being made for the establishing of another congregation not to far from Belo Horizonte. -Reported by Robert Smith
The family is all doing fine; very happy that spring is here so they can get out their bicycles and play outside. There have been and just about to be more birthdays. The three older girls are certainly looking forward to service camp, plus the fact that their grandparents v/ill be visiting from Oklahoma. If the Lord be willing, this sumner we v/ill be able to visit several churches reporting of the
Lord's work in Brazil and the new work here in Louisville. V^e do want to thank

you for your interest, concern, prayers and financial support during this time of
our rtiedical leave and specially at this point of inedical treatments. Lord rich3y bD.ess you as you continue to serve Him. May the - -

ART CARTER FAMLY, Missionaries, CHURCH OF CHRIST

Arthtir Carter, Sr, U208 Naomi Drive, Louisville, Kentuclty

Dear Cliristian Friends,

The Lord has richly blessed the new work here in Louisville, Kentucky with a permanent meeting house well located in the growing suburbs of Louisville, Pern Creek. The legal procedures were finally finished this month and we have begun the

task of moving into the building and arranging for needed things, such as pews,
piiLpit furniture, song books, and etc . We are needing a mimepgraph_mchine ^d_ various types of office equipment. We want to thank all the churches and individ

uals, who have helped us in this venture for the Lord, and to encourage others to help us with their prayers and financial support in the establishing of this new
church. The name will be changed from Second Christian Church to Fern Creek Christ

ian Church. Signs and clean up have alreacfy been done, however, we are still in the process of contacting families living in that area by letters and advertising.
All contacts will be followed by house calls. There is much work to be done, so don't forget us in your prayers and support. I have spent five days in the hospital this month making metabolism tests, after

the 26 X-Ray treatments.

I have been feeling much weaker, since these treatments,

which is nature, however, I will be given medication to replace the loss of the regular glandular function. This will take several months to find out just what medication ny body will need, but I soon hope to be completely back into action for the Lordeven taking revivals. I must say that I don't recommend these head oper ations plus sinus trouble to boot. The rest of the family are in fine health, except Kathy, daughter no. U, has been sick with a virus for a few days.
MEVJ5 FROM BELO HORIZONTE;

Special classes have been started for the entire church for the edification of the whole body. It is one of the
programs used hy Lewis Foster in ihe Y/estern Hills Chiirch. in_ Cincinnati, Ohio. Bro. Bob will be holding a revival meeting for one of our churches in Brasilia - May 23 till June 3. Let us pray for the winning of many souls to Christ and the reviving of the weak
brethern

One member and one child of the church passed away just after Bro. Bob had finished a tour to the other fields spend

ing 32 hours of 36 on buses. The missionaiy on foot is a true delemna for transportation is one of the greatest problems in
South America. You just can't get anything done on foot. - by Bob Smith

It seems that spring will never arrive and the girls are just wild to get out side to ride their bikes and play. The three older girls will be going to camp this summer and visiting their grandparents. We hope to be able to visit several of the churches during the summer months. The girl's grandmother from Oklahoma is here visiting this month, while I was in the hospital. Becky will be going home with her to stay a few weeks, until we can go get her. Becty is the baby of the family. We thank you folk for your constant prayerful support, throughout these trying months. May God bless you for the way you have stood behind us, during ovr sickness
andJiew w>rk, ^and_remember you-shall nol-go unrewarded.- _ Remember us in prayer dailyMay God richly bless you. _

Dear Christian Friends,

// .

We are sorry that we were unable to write to yoii daring the month of May. Let us just say that May was a very full and busy month. I checked into the hospital May 10 to run

more tests and on May I6 I had to undergo anoter operation for a pituitary tomor. This operation was just like the one in I963. I am now undergoing a few more deep therapy treat
ments, which is supposed to be the last trouble I should have with this situation. I am ^so undergoing various metabolistic tests. I am now out of the hospital doing very well. However, the work of the church and those medical problems are the reasons why our letter

come^ at such a late date.

We know that this information is very unexpected to most of

standing behind us with their prayers and support during this time of distress.
Our new church here in Louisville started holding services in the new building the first Sunday in May and God has blessed us with many nsw families from that area. Much moving and much work has been done such as putting up new signs, cleaning, painting, and re pairing a few things. We were thrilled with the attendance of last Lord's Day, which was 106. This is our record attendance thus far. The 26th of the month will be our first anni versary. God has especially blessed the church during my hospital stay with the officers taking over all the church work and the admission of many families. We are now in the middle of our first Daily Vacation Bible School, which is being well attended by the young people of this area. We are now preparir^ ourselves for the North American Christian Con
vention which will be here the last of this month.
NEWS FROM THE FIELD

Special teaching services have been started for the entire church one evening each week and is being well attended. The church is preparing its "Articles of Incorpora-^oon and By-Laws. A mission home has been purchased for the work in Bolo Horizonte; however, a few modifications and repairs must be made. Plans are being made at this time for the opening of a new preaching point in this capitol city. Inflation is still one of the largest problems for the people
to face here in Brazil. June is the month for Christian Service

Camp so there is much work to be done at the camp area.

Reported by Bob Smith

Several

decisions have been made for the Lord these last few weeks,

We would like to thank each and every church, class, and individual for your constant prayerful support of the Lord's work in Brazil and for the encouragement you have been to us. We want to express our appreciation for each prayer, card, and each concern during our sickness. We want to remind each and every one that the Lord is still blessing the work and the program is still going forward. Thus your continued prayerful support is needed for this work and the carriring on of the Lord's work in Belo Horizonte. You folk have been so interested in this work, so full of love for the lost, and so kind to us, that we must thank the Lord for each of you and ask His richest blessings and rewards.

Let us ask once again for your daily prayers for a quick recovery and return to the Lord*s
work. May the Lord bless each and every one.
In Christian love,

We greet you in the precious name of Jesus Christ and rejoice to report eleven ad
ditions in the new church since last month. The Lord is certainly leading in this

work as it continues to grow in this unevangelized area. We are accomplishing so much work at this time, such as: the decision has been made on the purchase of pews, pul pit, and communion furniture. We are also purchasing folding chairs at this time; There will be a delay of six months in receiving the church furniture; thus we will need many- i:hings now; Most of^the chairs ^-pulpit and communion-furnit\ireH^aat~we-are now using is borrowed and must be returned at the end of this month. We are still repairing the outside of the church building for winter such as; finishing the painting of the outside trim, putting up new guttering, repairs,oh.the outside, re

pairs on the church lot and much preparation on the Bible school/.department.

Panel

ing, book cases and shelves are being put in the church office and more cabinets in the church kitchen. A lot has been done, but there is a lot to be done on the build ing and even more to be done in the teaching the lost souls in this area. The church has also purchased furnishings for the office, such as: desk and chair, mimeograph, etc. We have just begun a calling program in the church called "Fishers of Men."

We ask God's guidance and blessings in this that much good can be done in the upbuild ing of ehristians and the winning of the lost. Any support you can give to this work will be greatly appreciated and we ask that you remember this effort in your daily
prayers.

NEWS FROM THE FIELD

Christian Service Camp is drawing to an end in Br.zil and several of the young people from Belo attended. Several of them have been won from spiritism to the saving knowledge of Christ. One of the boys won a scholarship as best camper and two of the girls were voted as best
campers.

After much preparation on the mission house for the Smith family,
they are now living there.

Daily Vacation Bible School was a tremendous success with over

120 in attendance.

The church gave a large missionary offering to the charity hospital, which cares for the poor. They are also planning to help our new work
in the Amazon with their monthly support.

The church has opened various other areas with Bible teaching and preaching, which we hope will develop into strong churches. Many souls have responded to Christ's invitation and have been added to the
church. Reported by Bob Smith.

Fall is just around the corner and that means school is just about to start. The girls have had a full summer of visiting, camping and resting up for their studies. They were certainly pleased to spend a couple of days seeing the Smoky Moimtains. The

bears were a big delight to see along the road. Everyone is fine at this time, still under the blessings of God. The church had a big surprise for me on the 31st of July when they had a special fellowship gathering after the church services for my 33rd

Millions Need Christ . . .

OUTH AMERICA, the world's fourth largest continent, covers

almost one-seventh of the earth's land area. Millions of the 150

million people are extremely poor. South America has the world's largest population explosion. There are over 35 tremendous cities throughout this continent. Most families have six children or more, and more than half the people have so little money that they buy almost nothing. They raise their own food, make their own clothes, and often
build their own homes.

The Roman Catholic Church dominates the very lives of the people; even the governments are dictated by this power. The Roman Church receives financial support and is recognized as the official national church. Evangelism, which has been brought by missionaries, is making

As you can see by the pictures, Brazil has huge cities with pop

Did you ever see such a nicer group of the prettiest girls in the world? Everyone has something to say about me and all my girls. They call me Eddie Cantor say that I'm really outnumbered at home, and that I never have ray way, etc. This is all very amusing, but completely wrong. I wouldn't have it any other way than what it is now. They are my

that they are all girls. They are always doing everything for me and love the Lord with all their heart. Each one is very different from the other and brings me happiness every day. Mariene is the finest of wives and
best of mothers to be found. She is truly what God meant when He said

in my sickness, that without her it would have been almost impossible to shoulder everything alone. Yes, I thank God that He has given me these girls to love and hold as mine.

We are expecting Brother Schaub in a few days, so we ask your prayers for this

It has certainly been busy here preparing for the church meeting and the opening of the Bible College program. In all of this it was really good to see Lew Cass" and family, with whom we h^ve labored in Brazil. The place was really alive with all our girls and their four little

children. Much time was spent in renewing old friendship and getting caught up to date on all happenings on the mission field. Lew stayed only a couple of days then headed on to Canada for
a "few months.

The church in Belo is continuing to grow and serve the Lord. Bible scheol has certainly exp^ded, reaching all ages and groups of people. Many men have been trained to serve in the

THE ART CARTER FAMILY: Missionaries t>o Brazil (Belo Horizonte), South America ' FORWARDING AGENT: Arthur Garter, Sr., 4208 Naomi Drive, Louisville, Kentucky ^^0219
October 1966

Dear Christian Friends:

We have been very busy this month in servi'de for Christ. We have had the great pleasure of working with Bro. Clifford Schaub, missionary to the Congo, in a four day Faith Promise Revival here at the church. God certainly blessed us with five souls and a new mission

goal of over $2,700.00 f-r the coming year,

v/e had the opportunity also to work in a

missionary revival with the Macedonia Christian Church at Battletown, Kentucky. We were also in the Faith Promise Revival in Palestine, Ohio, which was a great success. We are certainly grateful to God for the wonderful opportunity He has offered us in training two missionary recruits for the work on the Brazilian field. It is our pleasure to teach them the Portuguese language every Tuesday evening. V/e ask your prayers that God might strengths on them that they might reach the mission field. The Lord has certainly blessed the new church vri.th many new families and much spiritual growth. We have just started a youth choir which will sing during our evening services. We are still laboring for the needed amount of money for church pews and pulpit furniture, which we are certainly sure that the Lord will provide. Any help or gifts-that you as an individual, church, or Bible cljass . would like to give will be-appreciated and is greatly needed.
NEWS FROM THE F^IELD " '' ' ^' The revival here in Belo Horizonte had an attendance each evening of
over 110 and resulted in 13 conversions. .. .

,
"

The people of the church are certainly working by serving the Lo^',..for

Bible School is 135 people or more.

Men from the church traveled to Srazilia

for a series of studies and time of meditation and prayer. God is certainly blessing our work, for a spirit medium, Julia de Souze,
has been converted to the; Lord Jesus Christ.

The mission home is almost. remodeled and ready "to live in.
One Christian worker has started a Bible Club in the area in which she

lives.

More than 40 children meet there to study God's Word on Sunday

afternoons.

The church is now preparing for their Christmas program.

The family is well and enjoying God's beautiful autumn before the winter starts. We appreciated the wonderful fellowship with the brethren in Palestine, Ohio, plus all the evenings x-jith the folk at Macedonia. There have been several birthdays, which meant, a , few parties for the girls. We are all happy to be used by God in His plans of winning souls of men and women. We would like to express our appreciation for. your constant prayers and financial support. Your prayerful help means the continuing of God*s work in Brazil and here in the new church. We still need your help that the work may continue and that we may continue to be a part of the Lord's great commission. Please put us on your daily prayer list and support list, so that God's Word may be preached and that the lost
nay be saved.

May God richly bless you and yours as you strive to serve His Son through missions.

Dear Christian Friends,

It is a blessing ^to "be alive to witness God's po\^er in this season of the year, when the frost -is on the pumpkin and the golden red touch of Fall on every hand, I could mention the 12 inches of snow'that came so early, so unexpected, just like the.return of Christ will be. It was sort of a mess in every respect except the fact that there is so much to do for . Christ. The Lord is richly blessing every effort in the new congregation with a rise in

attendance and an increase in cohcern^for the lost. pn the lost throughout the area.

Men, women, and young people are calling '

, We have been busy in the Lord's work in missions speaking to the Walnut Grove Chris^ tian Church in southern Indiana about the tremendous need in Brazil. It was a pleasure to

fpend an entire Lo^rd's Day with the Darlington Christian Church in central Indiana.

It is a

rewarding experience teaching others about God's work in Brazil and the forming of new friendships. We are preparing our Christmas Newsletter at this time, which you will receive^ concerning our work in Brazil and'in the new congregation.
NEWS FROM THE FIELD

There have been more than 12 souls added to God's family since the last newsletter. Many are coming out of Vobdooism, Romanism, and
ignorance to knox^ Christ as Lord- and Saviour.

Decisions are being made on the establishing of another congregation cind several preaching points or cottage meetings. Your prayers are requested that God will continue to lead and guide with His Spirit in

all things done and that many may be brought to repentance and salvation in Christ. Pray that more missionaries will go into the needy areas of
Brazil for Christ.

Ih3 girls could not believe they eyes when all the snow kept falling, schools closed, power went off, and the snow melted away. They were thrilled \-rith Halloween parties and

^re looking forward to Thanksgiving and, of course, Christmas.

Cindy (daughter No. 3) fell

while playing with some friends and broke her arm almost at the-shoulder.- This is-th-s--- cond broken bone for her the first was a collar bone. She is fairly dangerous these days, with that cast on her arm. All the family is fine at this time.

We would like to express our appreciation for your constant prayers and financial support. Your prayerful help means the continuing of God-s work in Brazil and here in the new church. Please put us on your daily prayer and support list, so that God's Word may be preached and that the lost may be saved.

BRAZILIAN LIGHT
(Church of Christ Mission)
Volume 5 - Number 3
November 1966 Art Carter - Editor

Front row: Becky, Art, Mariene, and Kathy. Back row: Cindy, Debbie,
and Pam.

Our entire family sends you greetings in the name of Christ at this

Christmas season. It is sad to know chat more than half of the world's pop
ulation is without the truth, which is Christ. Yes, more than one half bil

lion know nothing of salvation in Christ. This meaningful season of the year has no meaning for them for they are starving without enough food,
naked for lack of clothing, homeless for lack of shelter. This is all so

true and so shocking to us here in this country, which is so richly blessed

by God. However these are not the greatest needs these millions have.

They are spiritually dead and lost completely ignorant of God's salvation

To Save Mankind . . .

in Christ. They are completely cut off from all of His fellowship and

Milton, one of our boys in the

strength. The only way for them to

know about the birth of Jesus to be saved and to have fellowship with God through Christ is through you and me. In Brazil many know about Christ, and Christmas does have the proper meaning to them; however, there are three fourths of the 80 million people
who need to know Christ as Lord and

Belo church, was voted best camper ofthe yearat Christian service camp.
The church in Belo is beginning to establish another congregation in

this city of over one million people.

Twenty-five per cent of all income
goes to missions.

Redeemer. The gospel of Christ and His message of salvation is being preached throughout most of the entire country, offering many the opportunity
to take Christ as theirs.

Cindy, our third daughter, who

was born in Brazil three weeks after

we arrived in 1957 on Brazil's Inde-

pendance Day, September 7, had her ninth birthday and also broke her
left arm near the shoulder.

How can you really make this a meaningful Christmas to yourself and others? By supporting prayerfully and financially the Lord's missionaries.
Make this Christmas a real one for

lost souls in Brazil. Your prayerful support and financial help is greatly needed to bring souls to Christ. May God richly bless you with a true Christmas Spirit and much service to
render for the Saviour born unto us.

Many souls have been added to the church in Belo these last months, and the giving has increased four times to that of last year.

Oneof our ladies, who lives quite far from the church, has started a
Bible club which meets once each

week, and atwhich the children study

the Bible. About 40 or 50 kids attend.

We have been blessed by invi

tations to speak for Christ's work in
Brazil to these churches: Camden

Avenue Christian Church; Darlington, Indiana; Macedonia Christian Church;

Walnut Grove Christian Church and
others.

Faith Promise goal for missions this year is S2,700. The church is one-and-a-half years of age.

And they came with haste, and found Mary and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.

RELIGION BUT NO SALVATION

Yes, there is a lot of religion in Brazil. All kinds of religion

the Spiritists, Voodooism, Roman ism, and all types of denominationalism. In one town of jUst

10,000 people, Ouro Preto, there

are 134 Roman Catholic church

buildings many of which ate

overlaid in gold around the altar. The people, of course, are

dirt poor and kept that way. They

live in constant fear of the power of the church and know nothing of God's love, grace, and kindness.
Salvation in Christ is com

pletely foreign to them for they

do not know that one can know

that he is saved in Christ by God's

grace and faithful obedience to

Christ. Yes, people in Brazil are very religious, but are not Christ
ian and do not have salvation in
Christ.

BIRTHDAY SURPRISE

It isn't very easy to surpriise me about anything; however, it was just two months since my operation and release from the hospital. I was using all my strength and time recuperating and preparing myself well for every service of the church. Oh, I knew it was my birthday it is every July 30,
but I was so busy getting back into the work and service of Christ. One Sunday night after the church service, one of the men said he wanted to

talk to me for awhile and took me down to the Bible school department. After we arrived there he said, "No, come on back to the fellowship area."
I went on with him to the area and when he opened the door I just didn't dream of the fellowship gathering for my birthday. It was a fine time we all enjoyed and it certainly meant a lot to me. They asked how old I was and I remember I answered, "The perfect age the age of Christ 33 years.*

Dear Christian Friends,

We greet you in the name of our Lord Jesus, whose birth we are recognizing this season

of each year.

It is a blessing to be serving the King of kings and Lord:of lords mth you

in this mission work. Each one of the family wishes you a happy and joyful Christmas. What does Christmas mean to you? How will you celebrate His birthday this, year? Yes, we love giving presents to"'those we love so dearly and to friends of the family. Who should we love more and who should be more dear to us than the One who died in our place, paid a

ransom for us,--^'a-'ftade us sons of God? All our gifts, even our lives offered as sacrifices for Him, would'h'ot bb enough. What are you giving the Lord this Christmas? He desires
your surrendered life and complete service. So often Christ is left out of Christmas-, when He is supposed to be the center of all. Many millions of people will have a" Christ-less Christmias this year." Why? Because they have never heard the gospel of Christ, they know nothing about the Saviour being born to save mankind. VJhat a gift for Christ on Christmas giving your prayer and financial support for others to know Christ, and His salvation.
Put Christ is someone's Christmas this year and every year.
CURRENT NEWS FROM THE FIELD:

Many have confessed Christ as Lord and Saviour being immersed for
remission of sins" to become God's children. Lives are constantly being

transformed by God's power changing Spiritism leaders, Romanists, and those ignorant and superstitious into- strong servants of Christ. Youth group has certainly grown and inspired the lives of many young peoiple, who really lbve'torve the Lord. The church is very busy now preparing the Christmas program for the
congregation.

Revival is being prepared for the month of January in Belo Horizonte.

Brother Bill Loft will be leading in the preaching.

Every evening is taken with cottage meetings and preaching point

schedules. Pray for victories in Christ's name.

The family is really looking forward to a wonderful Christ centered-Christmas. Our fore most gifts this year will be new pews for Christ's new congregation. There is a lot of practicing for the Christmas drama, and shopping, and decorating the tree, and helping Mom bake. The Lord is blessing as usual Cindy is out of her arm cast and Art recovered from his viral infection and two day stay in the hospital. Everyone is fine at this time.
We thank esich of you for your constant love, support, and prayers without which this
task could not be done. All of this mission work rests upon your help and there is now a

deep need at this Christmas season for your continued prayerful support.

May God bless you with a true Spirit-filled Christmas and a New Year of deeper fellow
ship and ccanplete service for Him.
