Technical Bulletin #10-632

Metco 470AW Chromium-Iron-Nickel Arc Wire

For Bond Coat Applications

Metco 470AW is a special chromium-iron-nickel alloy which is especially developed for use as a self-bonding arc spray wire. Metco 470AW is self-bonding to annealed or hardened carbon steels, annealed or hardened alloy steels, stainless steels, aluminum, nickel, cast iron, titanium, kovar, columbium and tantalum. However, it is not self-bonding to copper based alloys or tungsten and cannot be used as a bond coat under fused coatings.

Recommended Finishing Procedures

The recommended machining parameters for optimal coating are as follows: Tool Bit: Work Speed: Traverse Rate: Infeed: Lubricant: Kennametal K6 or equivalent 30 - 38 m/min. (100 - 125 SFPM) 0.076 mm/rev. (0.003 in./rev.) 0.076 mm/rev. (0.003 in./rev.) none

Safety Recommendations
The material safety data sheet (MSDS) Metco 470AW is available upon request. If personnel must be in the spray environment during spray operations, protective clothing, eye goggles, ear protection and a respirator must be worn. The spray area must always be equipped with suitable exhaust and dust collection systems.

Storage Requirements
Wires should be stored in a clean, dry area and preferably kept boxed in a carton.
