Network License Quick Start Guide Network Licensin Concepts

A Standalone License permits the use of applications on a single computer. License management is done on that computer and every single installed application requires a separate license code. Network Licensing is more flexible than Standalone Licensing. It allows you to designate one ! or server to run the Network License Server " a lightweight service that runs in the background and requires a license code. #he number of

available licenses $also known as seats% is encoded in this license code required only for the server. Applications communicate with a license server during startup to acquire a license. If no license is available& applications can search for open seats on other servers. IMPORTANT: 'or Network License Server& please select a ! that is stable and is always available on the network. It can be any !& but Laptops or Notebooks are not recommended. An operating system of (indows N# or later $)***& + & )**, Server% is recommended due to its support for (indows Services. #he client applications $i.e. pca!olumn& pcaSlab& etc.% can be installed on any ! on the network. !ommuter license is an embedded feature of network license.

IMPORTANT: Applications require 7ainbow SentinelL2 9.).* or higher. If you already have SentinelL2 9.).* or higher running on your designated server for other applications& you can skip step 3 and go directly to step ). If you have SentinelL2 9.3.* or prior on your server& then you either have to migrate existing licenses to SentinelL2 9.).* or you have to select another ! to run SentinelL2 9.).*. :nly one version of SentinelL2 can run on one server.

Step 1:

Installing License Serve Software

Also write down the I Address or 4ost Name of the server for later use.

Step 4:

!onfiguring License Server

-.3. 7un #lm !min.exe tool. #his utility is by default installed in the C:\Program Files\Rainbow #echnologies\ !min\ !min.&'T\#in$% folder. :pen proper folder if SentinelL2 is not installed in the default folder.

-.). :n the left pane o( (lmAdmin window $'igure E%& click on the FGH sign in front of the Subnet Servers& and then click on the FGH sign in front of the name of the server $e.g. SentinelL2<Server%. If any features are already installed& they will be listed under the server name& otherwise& nothing is listed. -.,. 7ight click on the server name& select Add Feature / From a String from the pop up menu $'igure 9%.

-.-. :n the Add 'eature to Server dialog box $'igure 0%& check the Add feature to serverAs file check box. !opy the license code for one !A product $e.g. pcaSlab% from the license code email& and then paste it into the License code text box. Leave the ;istribution criteria text box empty. ress Add button to continue. If you receive an error message after pressing the Add button& refer to the #roubleshooting section at the end of this guide.

-.8. 7epeat step , an! - to add all the !A software features one by one. After you are finished& all the features should be listed under the server name $'igure /%. #he server has been configured successfully. lease note that the license version and your software version do not need to match exactly. #his allows free updates to be installed without obtaining new license codes.

Step 5:

!onfiguring !lient Applications

IMPORTANT: #his step has to be repeated on every single client ! that will run !A applications $i.e. pca!olumn& pcaSlab& etc.%.

If you do not have the !;& visit http=..www.pcaStructure oint.com to download the latest version and install it. Iuick Start Buides are also available on our website.
IMPORTANT: If you purchased and installed the software before :ctober 3& )**,& you may have a version that is not compatible with the network license server. lease visit http=..www.pcaStructure oint.com to download the latest version and install it.

8.,. :n the client !& open (indows 1xplorer and go to client application directory $e.g. C:\Program Files\PC \)caCol*mn\%. 8.-. ?se a text editor $e.g. Notepad% to open a file named lshos"."x" in this client application directory. ;elete any text that may be present $e.g. no<net%& and type in the license server I address in the first line. 'or example& if the Network License Server is running on a ! with an I address of 3/).3E0.3.3**& Just type in 3/).3E0.3.3** in the first line. Save and close this file.
TIP: Cou may enter multiple I addresses $each in a separate line% in the lshos"."x" file to specify redundant license servers. #his will force the application to search for an available license seat starting from the server specified in the first line and subsequently moving to the next specified server if there is no license available on the current server. Also& if you prefer that applications detect license server automatically& you can use LAN keyword in a single line in the lshos"."x" file. Since the applications use broadcast method to detect server& startup time is longer in this approach. lease note that the broadcasting is performed only in the subnet where client computer is located. If client computer and license server are located in different subnets& server I address must be used. #he configuration is complete. Now you are ready to use the application. !ongratulationsK

#he license code copied is incorrect or incomplete. 2ake sure you copy and paste the proper and the whole license code from license email& and then try again. If error persists& follow the alternative procedures in roblem - to add features manually.

a. b. 2ake sure the license server is running properly $'igure 3*%. :pen (indows 1xplorer& and then go to !A software folder. 'or example& the default path for pca!olumn is C:\Program Files\PC \)caCol*mn\. ;ouble click to open lshos"."x". 2ake sure the I address of the license server is in this file. lease use I address rather than server name because occasionally server name does not work. If this file is empty& the client $e.g. pca!olumn% will try to locate the license server by broadcasting in the same subnet. If the license server and client are in different subnet& I address of the license server must be in the lshos"."x" file on the client computer.

,$ %roblem& License server does not run$

a. 2ake sure license code is applied to the computer from which the locking code is extracted. License code and locking code must match on a particular computer. lease follow Step ) :btaining Locking !ode off License Server to double check the locking code& and compare it to the locking code in the email sent to you by pcaStructure oint. If the license server computer is running (indows + with Service ack ) or (indows )**, Server& an exception must be set up in (indows 'irewall. :pen !ontrol anel and check the status of the (indows firewall. If the status is :n $recommended%& add an exception for ?; port 8*/, $'igure 33%. :pen this port if it is blocked by any other active firewall software running on the server.

If the license server configuration described in Step -= !onfigure the License Server does not work& alternatively you may follow the steps below to add features to your server. a. :pen (indows 1xplorer and go to directory containing the license file $C:\Program Files\Rainbow Technologies\Sen"inelL+ ,.%.-.%$ Server\'nglish\%. If a file named LS'R.RC $or lservrc in lowercase% does not exist in this directory& use a text editor $e.g. Notepad% to create one. !opy and paste the License !ode that you have received from pcaStructure oint into this file. 2ake sure that there is only one license code per line. Save and close this file. IMPORTANT: 2ake sure that file name is exactly LS'R.RC without any extensions. :therwise licenses will not work. 6y default& Notepad adds a ."x" extension. lease remove this extension using (indows 1xplorer. c. 7estart the license server.

b.

If it is already running& restart it by clicking on 71S#A7#. 'or (in /x= If license server is running& a separate window will display with the message FLicense Server 7unningH. !lose this window to stop the license server. :pen (indows 1xplorer and go to directory C:\Program Files\Rainbow Technologies \Sen"inelL+,.%.-.%$ Server\ 'nglish\. ;ouble click on lserv/x.exe to restart the License Server. d. @erify the licenses by running application #lm !min.exe $located in C:\Program Files\7ainbow Technologies\ !min\ !min.ne"\#in$%%. All available licenses will be shown in this application $'igure 3*%. In the top left corner& expand the Subnet Servers by pressing the FGH. Cour serverAs name should be visible there. 1xpand the server name. All the available licenses should be listed there.

Standalone License Quick Start Guide

In this licensing scheme& users are granted 38 days to use our full<featured software evaluation mode. #he only visible difference between the evaluation version and the licensed version is an additional start<up dialog box shown in 'igure )9. It gives a choice of buying.licensing the software& entering the activation code or running the application in the evaluation

mode by pressing the button. (hen the evaluation period expires the user will either obtain a License& or uninstall the application. Note= Any tampering with system clock or evaluation license file will render the software useless.

ress the F:nline LicensingH button in the start<up dialog box $'igure )9%. #his will open up a browser and direct you to the pcaStructure oint website $Step3& 'igure ,*%. lease select the )nd option and press FNextH. #hen you will be prompted to enter purchase order number& serial number& and locking code $Step )& 'igure ,*%. lease enter these numbers carefully. #hen you will be prompted for a valid e<mail address $Step ,& 'igure ,*%.#he domain name in the e<mail must match the one in the purchase order. :nce you have successfully generated

license code& please copy and paste it to the License !ode section of activation window $'igure )/%. #hen press FNextH.

It shows the product I; and the Locking !ode. #his information is needed when you make a phone call at 0-9</EE<-,89 $41L % to obtain the license. Cou will be asked to provide information about yourself in order to verify that you have purchased the license.

(hen you type in all the information press the button and it will be automatically e<mailed to us together with the product I; and the Locking !ode.
