2 THE ROADIES APP INTRODUCTION Rush hours and increasing use of vehicles for convenience has led to a serious problem of traffic congestion in Auckland which has led to increased traffic related incidents, increased pollution, parking congestions and delayed arrival times. These syptoms can be reduced with the help of The Roadies App which is a carpooling app that allows users to find people to carpool with who are travelling to a similar destination and who are from the same area. Carpooling will help reduce the traffic congestion and its syptoms as less vehicles will be driven. 3. BUSINESS SECTION 3.1 Visi on The Roadies App, offering sustainable transport whilst caring for the environment. Our vision is to provide sustainable travel at the users convenience and to care for the environment by reducing air pollution through carpooling in order to reduce traffic congestion. 3.2 Industry Anal ysis: Industry: The New Zealand Carpooling Smartphone Application Industry Force: High/Low: Justification: Buyer power: Low The buyer power of New Zealand carpooling apps is very low as there are currently no existing New Zealand carpooling apps and only websites. (Google, 2014). Supplier power: Low The Roadies App can be supported by many of the common smartphone operating systems such as Android, iOS, BlackBerry, Windows Phone and Symbian, thus the supplier power is low. (PC Mag, 2014)
Threat of new entrants: High The threat of new entrants is high as it is easy and cheap to create an app and to start a business. Though the total cost of creating an app will vary
3
3 depending on what type of app it is and what design it will be compatible with. The development costs ranges from $1,000 to $250,000 if it was for Apple. (Thomas, 2011). Also since there are no existing New Zealand carpooling app, there is a high first-mover competitive advantage. Threat of substitutes: High The threat of substitutes are high as there are other alternatives of transport to take instead such as the bus, the train or to personally drive yourself to the destination. Or instead of using The Roadies App to look for carpoolers, the users can use other websites such as Carpool King. Rivalry among existing competitors: Low The rivalry among existing competitors are very low as there are no existing New Zealand carpooling apps available. (Google, 2014).
Overall attractiveness of the industry: Overall, the New Zealand carpooling smartphone app industry is a very attractive industry as there are no existing carpooling apps available in New Zealand, therefore it is a first-mover competitive advantage. 3.3 Customers and Their Needs The Roadies App focuses on commuters who are travelling around Auckland, particularly commuters who are travelling to the Auckland CBD on a regular basis. Majority of commuters will want to be able to get to their desired destinations on time, but with Aucklands unreliable public transports and the major traffic congestions during rush hours it makes it impossible most of the times. Transport was ranked as the biggest issue for Auckland by 43.8 of the 500 Aucklanders that were surveyed by the Herald-DigiPoll in 2013. (Dearnaley, 2013). This meant that the commuters of Auckland has the need for more reliable and improved transport. 3.4 The Product and Service The Roadies App can help fulfill the commuters needs through the use of carpooling as it will help reduce the numbers of cars being used and will reduce traffic congestions particularly during the rush hours and therefore commuters will be able to get to their destinations efficiently and on time.

4 3.5 Suppl i ers and Partners One of The Roadies Apps suppliers is the common mobile operating systems such as Android and iOs. The common mobile operating systems will help supply The Roadies App through their online app stores in order to offer The Roadies App and its services to potential users who are seeking for carpooling. The other supplier is the carpoolers, as they will provide transport to other commuters or users of the app for The Roadies App. The partners of The Roadies App are the Auckland Transport and the social networks. The Auckland Transport promotes The Roadies App in order to reduce pollution through the use of carpooling and to ensure the safety of the users of the app when they are carpooling. The Roadies Apps services allows users to sign up to the app through using any social networks such as Facebook and Twitter for efficient registrations. 3.6 Strategy: The Roadies Apps cost strategy is low costs as the app and service is provided for free. Since The Roadies App has just entered the market it will first narrowly focus on one region which is Auckland and once the app is stabilized in the market it will slowly focus onto more regions and so on. The overall strategy is therefore focused on low cost narrow markets. 3.7 Val ue Chai n Acti vity: The most important value chain activity for The Roadies App is to market and sell the product. The Roadies App will focus on marketing in order to promote sustainable travel and to alert people about the pollution in Auckland, as Aucklands pollution is known to be the worst of New Zealand. (Field, 2011). The Roadies App will focus on marketing and selling to Auckland commuters due to their strategy. 3.8 Busi ness Processes 3. 8.1.
