Period 2
Cadbury

Cadbury is an International business with its headquarters based in Uxbridge,
London. It is owned by Mondelez International, and serves over fifty different countries.
It is the second largest confectionary company in the world and was established in 1842
in Birmingham by a man named John Cadbury. Dairy Milk Chocolate, their best-selling
product, was introduced in 1905. In 1919, Cadbury merged with J.S Fry & Sons, and
with Schweppes in 1969. In 1847, John Cadbury became business partners with his
brother, and the company became Cadbury Brothers. They became manufacturers of
chocolate and cocoa to Queen Victoria in 1854, but their company declined in the
1850s. Once his sons took over, the business shot back up. The company was the first
in Britain to use a cocoa press from the Netherlands to develop its chocolate, forming a
new breakthrough. They were located in the countryside. Today they are in
Westminster, and their head office employs 200 people. Other sites, such as Bournville,
their research lab, employs 1000 people, adding to the economy of the UK greatly. The
profits from outside of the UK were greater at one point than selling inside of the UK.
