The document describes how to build a simple and affordable boilie machine at home. It uses common hardware store components and provides detailed assembly instructions.

The boilie machine is constructed from materials like HPL plates, aluminum profiles, rollers, bearings and a motor. It has an exchangeable subframe to process different boilie sizes.

Components used include bolts, nuts, axes, bearings, aluminum plates, a motor, power supply and electrical wiring.

My Boilie Machine

This document describes how I have made my own boilie machine.

A simple setup so that building your own boilie machine comes in everybody's range.
However, a sense for exactitude and security is a must.

3. Exchangeable Sub frame

3.1 Axis
The rollers from ATC Carpfishing are standard equipped with a 12mm diameter hole. This
way an axis threaded shaft M12 is ideal to use.
The end of one axe has a groove to fit the fast-coupling (see 2.4 shortcut)
AFMETINGEN PROFIEL

3.2 Putting together the rollers

Warp the axis with one layer of thin tape so that the rollers will tighten around the axis.
Slide both parts of the rollers over the axe and put 2 Nuts M12 on both sides of the roller.
Do not tighten yet the nuts to the roller.

3.3 Bearing Base

The bearings are mounted on a base (board). The base can be made from different materials. I
prefer HPL (High Pressure Laminate), also known as Trespa panel. These panels are easy to
work with (cutting, drilling, thread tapping into ...).

10

One of the boards is provided with 2 holes M5 so that later can be attached to the machine
base (see 3. Composition)

3.4 Bearing and bushing

As bearing Ive used a standing bearing with sealed bearing and a steel housing. The inner
ring of the bearing includes two screws to fix the shaft.
Given it is not easy to find a bearing with an inner diameter of 12mm, I created a bush that
allows one to fit an M12 shaft bearing with a standard size.
Bearing and bush are available at ATC Carp Fishing.

3.5 Assembling
In this phase it necessary to work precisely.
The first roller is put on the bases so the mounting holes of the bearings can be marked and
drilled.
Once the first roll is fixed, the second roller is mounted alongside.
Until now not a single nut or bolt was tightened hard!

3.6 Safety
For safety reasons I have not made use of gears and chains, but I used rollers (TYPE 2) with
an integrated V-belt pulley. The V-belt will slip when blocking the rollers. In addition, all
sharp protrusions (e.g. screws in bearing) are shielded. This is to avoid hurting fingers.

4. Machine base

4.1 Aluminium frame

The frame consists out of four aluminium profiles.
The two short profiles get three holes to fix the frame to the sides later.

The edges of the profiles are covered with plastic stops.

4.2 Side Panels

The side panels are again constructed out of HPL (Trespa) plate 8mm thickness.

4.3 Speed fixing unit

The speed fixing unit allows me to exchange the sub-frames (different boilie diameters)
quickly.
A long nut M8 was drilled out for half its length with a bore size of 9mm.
Through the drilled out part of the nut a bolt of M3 is placed.
The grove in the axis will slide over the bold M3 so that the axis will grip.

4.4 Montage
In this phase it necessary to work precisely.
The aluminium frame is mounted to the 2 side panels with bolds M6 x 30.

The sub frame is put on the machine base and the centre of the axis is drawn on the right side
panel.

Once the centre height is determent, the holes for the motor are made en the motor is
mounted.

5. Combining
5.1 Motor
A wiper motor is a very powerful and compact motor. Several types have the possibility to
rotate with 2 or 3 speeds.

Ive used spacers between the panel and motor so that the coupling will not stick through the
panel.

5.2 Power Supply

The DC motor operates at 12V. This makes it possible to use the machine on a car-power
supply (for long fishing trips ). For practical reasons, Ive used a compact switched power
supply that easily can build in.
Specifications:
- Output power: 12-15V DC
- Adjustable current limitation
- Power 150W

5.3 Wiring
The power supply and motor are connected according the schematics below.

5.4 Compose
When the machine base is build, de motor and power supply are mounted, the sub-frame will
be aligned.
Fasten the sub-frame to the machine base with 2 bolds M6. Turn the nuts M12 so that the
rollers are perfect aligned to each other.
When this is done, its time to tighten up the V-belt and fasten the M8 bolts of the bearings.

5.5 Safety
This boilie machine contains several moving and turning mechanical parts, sharp edges, and
electrical parts. A maximum sense of safety is recommended.
Not only for me as user but for all people around me.
-

The used switch is a Start-Stop switch with a zero-current protection. This way, the
machine can not start without pressing the start button.
The current of the power supply is adjusted that when blocking the rollers, the motor
will stop.
The tension of the V-belt is just enough that when blocking 1 roller, the belt will slip.
The motor and power supply are covered so that the electrical parts are protected for
toughing and water.

Also during the building of this machine Ive used the necessary personal protection
equipment (safety glasses, gloves, ).

I never let my boilie machine unattended when children are around!
