The Implementation of a sustainable developmental strategy for getting Fit in to the industry:
To keep the leadership position safe, CAT has to have a continuous focus on its innovative
capabilities, Research, design, development, manufacturing capabilities as the industry is very
dynamic and there is big threat from existing as well as local and small competitors. CAT has to
realize the wide range of opportunities available in market especially in Asian countries like China
and India. Not only realization of the opportunities but also they have to predict the demand of the
market and quickly response to the demand of the market. In other words, CAT has to develop the
strategy from build-to-stock to order-todelivery. In order to achieve that CAT has to explore the
new possibilities to improve the marketing and distribution channel to improve its sales revenue. Also
CAT has to further develop the values and trust between the suppliers, dealers, customers and its
shareholders. Then only, CAT will be able to manage to keep the safe imagine of Caterpillar yellow
"The World: In Progress".
The relationship between the dealers, customers and suppliers can be made more transparent through
internet website and online communications so that the time can be saved to respond. CAT is already
working on that but there are a lot of opportunities to improve.
Caterpillar Inc is aware of the importance of the sustainable strategy. They are already working
towards the sustainability of the organization. The implementation of a sustainable target is core area
of the context. There is no-sense if the sustainability target or goal are decided but not implemented.
Hence, it is need for CAT to strictly adhere to the sustainability target to meet them. The Caterpillar
Inc has recognized that sustainable progress involve the balance of environmental stewardship,
economic growth and the social responsibility. There are three principles of Caterpillar Inc to drive the
commitment of making sustainable progress. [4]
a) Prevent the wastage (i.e. improved safety need, efficiency and productivity): By
increasing the safety need, efficiency and the productivity of the process and the product,
Caterpillar Inc has reduced the cost incurred and minimize the use of resources for same level
of the output. This helps to provide better product and service to its customers through
sustainable operations.
b) Improved quality (i.e. Teams, communities, environment and operations): By improving
the quality of the product and service, Caterpillar Inc can improve the product durability and
efficiency which leads to customer satisfaction through sustainable operations.
c) Development of better systems (or the Innovation): The innovation and technology
enhances the product efficiency and productivity. Caterpillar Inc is to develop the better
systems throughout the value chain through its innovative capabilities.

Caterpillar Inc has decided to implement the sustainability goal applying the sustainable principle
keeping companys vision, mission, and strategy at the top in order to achieve the stakeholders
expectations.
This is not the task of an individual or management; this is the target for each and every person
involved directly or indirectly with the firm. The implementation of a sustainable strategy is centrally
controlled by the culture of the organization and that can be achieved by a strong and clear vision
from the management. The vision of the company has to be communicated at each level people in the
organization because sustainable goals can be implementation through information sharing,
technology improvement and people.
There are so many examples from the people related to CAT who are demonstrating how each of them
developed the sustainable progress in their work and communities. Few of these progresses are:
Built in quality
Championing the culture of safety
Propelling more values to the customers
Knocking out toxic gas emissions from CAT engines
Greenhouses make growing more greener
Re-storing the mining fields to the nature
Reduction in energy wastage
Developing suppliers and dealers with the long term mindset
