pay and a cosmopolitan life style of Dubai. This article
will try to give you all the basic information that you must know as a dental student.

What is MOH LICENSE EXAM for UAE ?

All the health professionals who seek to work in UAE must appear for MOH examination and get
qualified for work in UAE. Evaluation of the below categories is done in MOH Examination and
separate exams conducted for the following professions.
1. Physicians and Dentists
2. Pharmacists and Assistants
3. Nurses and Midwives
4. Technicians
5. Physicians, Practitioners and Technicians of the Complementary and Alternative
3 different Health Ministries functioning in UAE :
1. MOH which is Ministry of Health passing the MOH you are allowed to work in 5 emirates but
not in Dubai or Abudhabi.
2. DHA Dubai Health Authority (previously known as DOHMS Department of Health and

Medical Services) DHA registration is required for working in Dubai.

3. GAH which is General Authority of Health Exam or usually know as MOH/Abu Dhabi.

REQUIREMENTS FOR
GENERAL PRACTITIONER
(GP) EXAMINATION
( FOR PHYSICIANS &
DENTISTS )[ PLEASE NOTE
ALL POINTS]
1. All the certificates for GP doctors must be
granted by a universities recognized and
recognized by the WHO listing.
2. All
Qualifications
and
experience
certificates must be legally translated
(Other than English/ Arabic), attested and authenticated with approved seals from the
Ministry of Foreign Affair inthe country where the certificate has issued, UAE
embassy/Council in the country and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab
Emirates and according to the assets used in the Ministry.
3. The original certificates must be presented at the time of receiving the Evaluation
Certificate for verification.
4. The minimum requirement to be qualified for the exam is basic medicine degree from
a recognised university or college. Furthermore, the internship and experience should
not be less than (3) years (one year internship + two years experience after internship).
5. Good Standing Certificate is MANDATORY and required from the responsible Health
Authority in the Country of Origin which issues the License with approved seals and
attestations from the Ministry of Foreign Affair in the country where the certificate has
issued, UAE embassy/Council in the country and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the United
Arab Emirates and according to the assets used in the Ministry.
6. Eligibility Letters from HAAD/DHA is not accepted by MOH. Applicant MUST have
the HAAD/DHA License and Good Standing Certificates to be excluded from the
MOH exam. We will not consider HAAD/DHA License or Good Standing Certificate if the
candidate had failed in the MOH exams.
7. Passport is MANDATORY Identification to be uploaded in the Evaluation System.
8. GP who do not qualify as above will not be accepted to sit for the GP pro-metric exam.
9. In
case
of
interruption
or
stoppage
of
practicing
the
work
for
a
period of two years, the applicants will not be eligible to apply to the Ministry of
Health exam.

10. The applicants who failed in the pro-metric exam and got evaluation from DHA
/HAAD Authorities are NOT eligible for MOH evaluation unless they appear for GP prometric exam.
11. The applicants will be given a chance of three times to attend the
exam. Furthermore, the fourth chance of entering the exam will be after a year from the last
examination date, however a certificated clinical experience should be provided.
12. In case of failure for the fourth time, the admission file will be cancelled.
13. The candidates who did not meet the requirement of experience shall be evaluated with a
lesser degree than the legally approved degree, to be re-evaluated after receiving the
required expertise (start GP = less than 5 years after internship/ Full GP = 5
years after internship).
14. The mentioned requirements are MUST and will be applied with NO exceptions.
15. Supported documents can ONLY be uploaded after the registration is verified and
accepted. Furthermore, you are NOT allowed to send any documents or CVs unless the
committee asked you to do so.
16. Diploma Holders of ANY specialties has to do the GP pro metric exam first followed
by Interviews after 6 months.
17. Be informed that the registration MOH fee is 100 Electronic Dirhams. Extra fee to be
paid for Pro-metric exam via online Master Card/ Visa card, e-Dirham and American
Express ONLY.
18. The reports issued from pro metric are not a certified by MOH. The Validity for the GP
exam is ONE YEAR.

WHO SHOULD TAKE THE EXAM

Undertaken by all doctors wishing to practice in United Arab Emirates. It is in fact various exams
for various specialties. Separate exams for Medical Practicioners/GPs, Nurses, Pharmacists,
Anesthesis and DENTISTS.

WHAT IS THE SYLLABUS FOR THE EXAM

no particular syllabus advised, you have to prepare as per specialty. The examination is
conducted twice a year in English language. It consists of three parts: written exam, practical and

viva. The written exam comes in the form of multiple choice. A candidate must pass the written
to qualify for practical and viva exams. Similarly, a specialist candidate must pass a viva exam to
qualify for the practical exam.
Examples for the written exam:
1. The maxillary and mandibular retainers are constructed according to the design specified for
the patient in the following:
a- treatment stage of orthodontics
b- post-treatment stage of orthodontics
c- pretreatment stage
d- retention stage
e- none of the above
2. In managing the resorption in tooth #9, the dentist should find which of the following intracanal medicaments to be the MOST effective?
a-Camphorated parachlorophenol
b-Methylcresyl acetate
c- Calcium hydroxide
d- Formocresol

Please note that in some speciality exams the canditates are required to pass
Prometric Online exam prior to attend the oral exam. So for all Dental Students
first they need to clear the Online Pro-metric Test before they are called for the Oral
Interview. Details about the pro metric Test and the steps in it will be provided at
the end of the article.

All Academic Certificate should be equalised in Ministry of

Higher Education
Required Documents:
1. Registration Form to be filled at Customer Services.
2. Registration Fees E-Dirham must be paid at MOH: Ph.D. or Board (or equivalent) = 200
Dhs, Master(or equivalent) = 150 Dhs.
3. Copy of the attested certificates to be equalized.
4. Attestation of the original qualifications must be done by the UAE Embassy where
the certificate has issued and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the UAE.
5. C.V.
6. Passport Copy.

Does passing the MOH test guarantees the job offer in the
UAE?
NO. Finding a job remains the responsibility of the doctor who should ensure that he/she is well
informed about the opportunities for work before embarking on the MOH exam. Once the
dentist clears the exam he becomes eligible to work in UAE. He/She can then apply to various
institutes for jobs to join as dentist.

1. B.D.S.. OR Equivalent Degree Certificate.

in a non-Teaching Hospital is equal to one-year internship.
