Issue 6 12th October 2016

Dear Parents,
MESSAGE OF THE WEEK

The British Legion has once again supplied Remembrance Day items which are on sale to the community of the
school and its children. These include poppies, pin badges (1), friendship bracelets (1), wristbands (50p), and
even reflectors! (50p) Prices for poppies are a usually set at 20p. If you or your children wish to buy any items,
please come to the school office to help support this cause.
PARENTS EVENING 26

TH

OCTOBER

Hopefully you will have a received a letter with a slip to complete inviting you to meet your teacher. Each session is
scheduled to take 5 minutes to share with you details of your childrens learning and progress. Any issues that arise
from this session can be followed up afterwards with your childs teacher if this is necessary. Please complete and
th
return your slip for your slot by the 18 October to help us arrange times for all parents requesting a session.
Please note that Nursery and Reception classes will not be holding theirs at this point following the childrens recent
induction and the curriculum workshops that are in progress currently. PLEASE COMPLETE AND ROUR SLIP
HOT SCHOOL DINNERS JUNIOR CHILDREN
Every week we remind our parents of the amount owing to school after your child has received a cooked/hot dinner.
We are, however concerned that there are a number of parents who are regularly in arrears. Owing to a number of
concerns with our parents building up significant debts, the school office would like to request you pay your dinner bill
th
in advance each week. From the start of next half term break (7 November), we will be unable to serve a dinner if
your arrears are in excess of 25. We would therefore ask that you send your child into school with a packed lunch if
you are in arrears by over 25. Unfortunately, the school has had to cover the cost of a number of outstanding debts
which have been unable to be collected. You are also able to view your account through the use of Parentpay at any
time. Please take note that if your child is receiving hot dinners, they should be receiving them every day and not on
random days as this allows the cook to plan and prepare ahead.
TEMPEST PHOTOS
th

Please can all Tempest photo order forms be returned to school by Friday 14 October.
YEAR 6 CHARITY SHOEBOX INITIATIVE PLEASE JOIN IN!
Over the last two years, our Year 6 children have taken a lead in raising funds for Macmillan Cancer through a coffee
morning. This year they would really like to get everybodys support and help children in orphanages in Moldova in
Eastern Europe. Mrs Galland, who retired from our school last year, has been working with the orphans in Moldova
and would like your help if you can spare a little time. Please have a look at the information that has been sent today
on what to include in your shoebox. It is a great cause, and particularly special as it has been chosen by the Year 6
children themselves as they are keen to make other childrens live better over Christmas. Items need not be new,
but can be things you may already possess of good quality. I hope it is a small project which the children will really
enjoy putting together for a worthwhile reason.
CHEERLEADING & CHOIR CLUB
th

Cheerleading club will not be on Friday 28 October due to the Halloween disco.
th

Choir will not be able to take place tomorrow (13 October) as Mr Shields is away apologies!
SCOOTERS & BICYCLES ON THE SCHOOL SITE YOUR SAFETY
Please could you ensure that your children do not ride their bicycles or scooters over and around the playgrounds at
the start of the day and at collection time. We have in the past had accidents and collisions when other parents and
children are in the playgrounds and we would like to remove this risk. Many thanks.

RECEPTION CLASS - LEMUR AND CHINCHILLA

The Early Years Curriculum indicates that children must spend time outside to fulfil their learning. Please can all
parents ensure that their child has a coat and wellies in school every day. Thank you.

FINAL ROBINWOOD PAYMENT - YEAR 4
The final payment for the Year 4 trip to Robinwood is now due. Balances can be checked on Parentpay.
PIANO LESSONS
I have been approached by an excellent piano teacher that I know through our links with the Blackburn Cathedral
Choir Concerts. He is keen to offer piano lessons in school for parents and pupils if there is any interest and the
charge will be 12 for half an hours tuition. Please contact the school if you are interested. We hope to have these in
action for interested players after our half term break.
INFANT SIZED BICYCLES PLEASE
If you have small infant-sized bicycles in good condition which are no longer required, please would you consider
donating these to our Early Year Classes and Nursery. We already offer coaching for balance bikes and bicycles each
year in our Reception classes and they would be much appreciated for use throughout the rest of the year to allow our
children to develop strength, coordination and skill in this area.
HOLIDAY CHILD CARE CLUB THE NEST
The school would like to make parents aware of a child care holiday club known as The Nest which will be available
st
at Walton le Dale Primary School over the half term holiday break for parents that require it. It will run from the 31
th
October to 4 November. The charge for a full day from 8am to 5pm would be 22. The cost of a standard day from
8.30am to 4.30pm would be slightly less at 20. There will be a definite autumn/Halloween theme running through
this week. Information flyers are available from the main office or you can email any queries to
Thenesthc@gmail.com or call 07889040411. Places may be limited, so please book promptly if you are interested. If
this facility is a popular one at Walton le Dale, future holiday clubs will be available.
