SMTML Monthly Photo Contest Rules and Subjects

General Rules:
1. The following contests are open only to photographers with a disability as
defined by the ADA or IDEA
2. Only one submittal per photographer per contest
3. Photographs must be submitted by midnight (e-mailed, postmarked,
personally delivered) on the last day of the contest month
4. If the file size of your submittal prohibits you from delivering it
electronically, please contact us to make arrangements.
5. Submit your photo as a high quality jpeg or tiff image. Recommended
minimum size is 2MB. Maximum acceptable size is 100MB
6. Your submittal must include the following information
a. Name
b. E-mail
c. Equipment used to take the photo (camera, lens)
d. Camera settings used (f-stop, focal length, ISO, shutter speed)
e. Why you chose this composition
f. What do you enjoy about photography
g. Do you have any adaptive gear or techniques you would like to share

Judging:
1. A minimum number of three judges will be chosen from our list of
volunteers and lecturers.
2. Photographers with entries in the current contest will not be eligible to serve
as judges
3. Judging will be based on the qualitative factors of technical skill,
composition, use of lighting, and artistic impression.
4. The winner will be notified by e-mail.
5. The winning photo and a small profile will be loaded on our website to
celebrate their accomplishment
Best Photo of the Year:
During the month of January, the photos of the twelve winners from the previous
calendar year will be judged by a panel of 5 or more judges. This winner will be
recognized as the best photo of the year.

SMTML Monthly Photo Contest Rules and Subjects


January: Still life of objects in winter light. This contest is for black and white
photos of inanimate objects. Dont forget to capture the texture and contrasts of
the subject. All submittals must be in black and white. Submit photos by midnight
on 31 January 2016.
February: Pets and their owners. Ever notice lots of pets look like their owners?
Or, is it the other way around? Head out to your local dog park, walking path, cat
lady, or public gathering and take a photo of an owner and their pet that looks like
them. In addition to the standard judging content of technical skill, composition,
use of lighting, and artistic impression, photos will be judged on how closely the
pet resembles the owner. Submit photos by midnight on 28 February 2016.
March: At the Zoo or Bio-Park. Submit a scene from the Albuquerque Zoo or the
Albuquerque Bio-Park. Submit photos by midnight on 31 March 2016.
April: Parts that show the whole. Submit a photograph of a part of a subject that
conveys the feeling of whole thing. An example would be the sprocket and
chain on a bicycle. Submit photos by midnight on 30 April 2016.
May: Hummingbirds, Hawks, Roadrunners, and other Feathered Friends. Submit a
photo of one of New Mexicos feathered inhabitants. Submit photos by midnight
on 31 May 2016.
June: Macro Flowers and Cactus in New Mexico. Submit a close-up photo of one
of many of NMs flowering plants, cactus, or wild grass. Submit photos by
midnight on 30 June 2016.
July: New Mexicans in portrait. This is a black and white contest. Submissions
must be of a single New Mexico resident. Shots must be cropped so they are
dominated by the subject. The subject must be in some stationary pose or natural
stance. All submittals must be in black and white. Submit photos by midnight on
30 July 2016.
August: Catch the colors of Fall. A landscape photo contest where the subjects
highlight the colorful foliage of NM in Fall. Submit photos by midnight on 31
August 2016.

September: Lighter than air flight. Capture a unique scene that represents
Albuquerques rich history of ballooning. Photos can be of balloons, pilots, or
fans. Submit photos by midnight on 30 September 2016.
November: Capture New Mexicos rich Spanish, Mexican, and Native American
heritage in black and white or color. Submit photos by midnight on 30 November
2016.
December: Capture the feeling of Christmas in NM. This is a contest reserved for
landscapes and cityscape photography. Submit photos by midnight on 31
December 2016.
