How to Use the Competency Based Learning Materials

Welcome!
The unit of competency Strip Formwork Components is one of the
competencies of Carpentry, a course which contains the knowledge, skills
and attitudes needed for carpentry NC II.
The module, STRIPPING FORMWORK COMPONENTS contains competencies
and learning outcomes, activities/tasks/ jobs that involved PREPARE
STAGING AREA, TOOLS AND EQUIPMENTS, STRIP FORMWORKS OF
BUILDING COMPONENTS, SHORE, RE-SHORE AND REMOVE FORMS.
In this module, you are required to go through a series of learning activities
in order to complete each learning outcome. In each learning outcome, there
are Information sheets, Self-Checks, Task Sheets/Job Sheets. Follow them
and perform the activities on your own. If you have questions, do not
hesitate to ask for assistance from your facilitator.
Remember to:
Work through all the information and complete the activities in each
section.
Read information sheets and complete the Self-Check. Suggested
references are included to supplement the materials provided I this
module.
Most probably, your trainer will also be your supervisor or manager.
He is there to support you and show you the correct way to do things.
You will be given plenty of opportunities to ask questions and practice
on the job. Make sure you practice your new skills during your regular
work shifts. This way, you will improve your confidence, speed and
memory.
Use the Self-Checks, Task sheets or Job Sheets at the end of each
section to test your own progress. The Performance Criteria Checklist
will be used to check your performances.
When you feel confident that you have sufficient practice, ask your
Trainer to evaluate you. The results of your assessment will be
recorded in the Achievement chart and the Progress chart.
You need to complete this module before you can perform the next
module in CARPENTRY.

Introduction: This module covers the knowledge, skills, and desirable


attitudes in stripping formworks components and accessories for concrete
works. It includes preparing tools and equipment, staging of materials and
shoring and re-shoring operations.
Summary of Learning Outcome:
Upon completion of the module you should be able to:
1. Prepare staging area, tools and equipment.
2. Strip formworks of building components.
3. Shore, re-shore and remove forms.
Assessment Criteria:
1. Work instruction is secured from immediate superior according to
company rules and regulations.
2. Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is selected and used
according to job requirements and Occupational Health and Safety
(OHS) procedure.
3. Formwork components and accessories staging area is identified and
prepared based on job requirements.
4. Formwork components, power and hand tools and equipment are
selected and prepared in consonance with job requirements.
5. Unexpected situations are responded to in line with company rules
and regulations.
6. Housekeeping is performed according to safety regulations.
7. Formwork components and accessories are removed carefully, safely
and sequentially.
8. Formwork components and accessories are sorted arranged and
staged properly according to prescribed rules and regulations and
manufacturers recommendations.

9. Formwork components and accessories are cleaned , oiled and stored


according to prescribed rules and regulations and manufacturers
recommendations.
10.
Formworks and accessories which are beyond repair are
discarded
properly or otherwise repaired in accordance with
prescribed rules and regulations.
11.
Formwork components are shored and re-shored in accordance
with stripping procedure.
12.
Shores are removed in accordance with standard dismantling
procedure.
13.
Shores, tools and equipment are cleaned, maintained, and
stored properly according to prescribed rules and regulations.
