Introduction
Operating Cautions
Caution
The prep/expose signal is transmitted continuously any time the Exposure button on the
CARESTREAM Remote Exposure Switch is pressed, or when you press the Radiography button
on the TECHSWITCH Remote Exposure Switch. An unintended exposure could occur if the
generator is in the Ready or Prep state and the IR beam is momentarily interrupted while the
button is pressed.
Examples of events that could cause this to happen are:
Any object such as a person, body part, or equipment passing between the
transmitter and receiver.
The operator changing the orientation of the transmitter while making the exposure.
The button becoming stuck in the pressed state.
If the DRX-Revolution is configured to automatically advance to the next image after
exposure, multiple exposures could occur if the IR beam is interrupted multiple times.
To prevent unintended exposures, take the following actions:
Ensure that nothing interrupts the IR beam during preparation and exposure.
Carefully maintain the aim at the receiver during use.
Stop using the remote and call for service if it appears that any of the switches are
not operating correctly.
Caution
If you witness or become aware of a potentially unsafe condition with this equipment, report it
to your authorized Carestream Service Representative immediately, while taking appropriate
steps to ensure the safety of all.

2 CARESTREAM Remote Exposure Switch
for DRX-Revolution Mobile X-ray System
The Remote Control Exposure Switch emits infrared signals controlling prep, expose, and
collimator lamp functions when paired to a particular receiver. The receiver is equipped
with LED indicators that respond to these signals.
Note
The receiver responds to the signals emitted from its paired remote control only. See the section
Procedure to Pair the Remote Exposure Switch for pairing instructions.

Prep/Expose button (1)A two-stage button. Press down to the first stage to Prep the
generator; the remote chirps and the indicator light turns green. Press down further to
the second stage to send the Expose signal to the receiver.

Lamp/Pair button (2)A single-stage button. Press to light the collimator lamp. Press
again to turn the lamp off. Holding down the Lamp button for 30 seconds causes the
remote to begin the pairing process with the available receiver, and chirps when pairing
is complete. See the section Procedure to Pair the Remote Exposure Switch for
important information.
Low Battery indicator (3)LED flashes as long as the remote is out of its cradle when
batteries need to be replaced.
Remote FinderA high-pitched musical sound emits and the battery indicator LED
flashes when the remote has been out of its cradle and idle for more than three minutes.
Pushing any button will reset this alarm for another three minutes.
Cradle and Sleep ModeThe remote cradle is mounted to the equipment. When the
remote control is in its cradle, its power usage is near zero to preserve battery life.
Removing the remote from the cradle resumes normal operation.
Note
To maximize the battery life, store the remote control in the cradle when not in use.

Pairing
The remote signal is infrared and has a line-of-sight range of up to 11 m (36 ft).
Each remote control has a unique code. Every message it sends includes this code, and
the receiver uses this code to determine its paring. A receiver will ignore all messages
from a remote with which it is not paired.
You must take care that only one unit is paired at a time. This means that there should
not be any additional units within the vicinity of the unit being paired.
There are two events that may cause a remote control to be paired to more than one
machine:
1. If two or more machines are within the line of sight or reflections when the pairing
signal is sent.
2. The remote is paired to Machine A, then at a later time moved to machine B and
paired to Machine B.
Caution
Isolate the mobile X-ray equipment from other units when sending the pairing signal. Every
receiver that gets a message that contains the Pair signal will begin the pairing process.
In the event that two machines are paired to one remote, it is possible to expose both
units under certain circumstances, for example, if both machines were in Ready status,
close enough to be in line-of-sight, or close enough for IR reflection to occur.

Note
Verify that the left-most ON blue indicator on the receiver is illuminated. The receiver
automatically powers on when you power on the X-ray unit.
1. Make sure there are no other mobile units in line of sight, including units behind a
window or lead glass.
2. Take the remote control out of its cradle.
3. Stand within 11 m (36 ft) of the unit with the receiver in the direct line of sight.
4. Collimator LampPoint the remote toward the receiver and press down on the
Lamp/Pair button.
This causes the collimator light to come on. The indicator on the far right lights blue.
5. Press again to turn the collimator light off.
Note
Pressing and holding the Lamp/Pair button for 30 seconds will pair the remote to the receiver.
6. Generator PrepPress the Prep/Expose button down to the first stage. The second
light from the left lights green.
This prepares the generator for exposure.
7. Generator ExposePress the Prep/Expose button down to the second stage. The
third indicator from the left lights green as the exposure is made.
When the exposure is completed, an audible tone from the machine will sound, and
the X-ray unit will return to standby mode.
Note
Corresponding indicators light green on the sides of the receiver for Prep and Expose signals.
8. Return the remote control to its cradle on the X-ray unit.
Note
If the remote is left out of the cradle and idle for three minutes, the Remote Finder feature is
activated causing the remote control to beep until you touch a button or return the remote to its
cradle. This series of beeps will continue until the remote is located and returned to its cradle.
Keep the remote in its cradle when not in use to extend battery life.

4 Maintenance
The CARESTREAM Remote Exposure Switch and the TECHSWITCH Remote Exposure
Switch and receivers are constructed of durable plastic that should retain their
appearance for many years. They require the same maintenance.
Periodically clean the remote control and receiver with a soft cloth moistened with water
and a mild soap or detergent.
