Lab # 01: Nominal and Measured Data Statistics
Learning Objectives:
The objective of this Lab is to develop understanding of nominal data, measured data, tolerance
and measurement limitations.
Software/Equipment Required:
MultiSim Software
DMM
DC Power Supply
Lab Trainer/Bread Board
Resistors: 2 values of the same order
Wires
Theory:-
1. Electrical components and power sources are marked with certain nominal values while the
actual value may differ from them within the given tolerance.
2. The actual values are measured by the respective instruments, which are used for that
parameter. Each instrument has certain specifications like accuracy, significant digits and
input impedance.
Procedure:
1. Note down the specified and measured values of supply and resistors.
2. Note down the tolerances specified by the resistors and the actual deviation.
3. Connect the circuit according to the diagram and power it up.
4. Take multiple measurements of the output at lowest feasible range. Note down calculated
and measured values along with the equation.
5. From the manual of DMM, note down its specifications.

Theory:
1 There are different types of errors in a set of data including gross error, systematic error
and random error.
2 All the errors have random behavior and can be cancelled by taking a large number of
readings and then taking the mean of the readings.
3 The statistical analysis helps in understanding different properties of the measurement data
including average, deviation, dispersion and distribution.
Procedure:
Note down the specified and measured values of supply and the five samples of each of the
resistor values.
Note down the equations for nominal and maximum values of output voltage.
Connect the circuit according to the diagram and power it up.
Five different values of each of the resistors can make a total of 25 combinations. While
plugging in each of the combinations, note down Vout.
Calculate and note down all rest of quantities.
