Moving

Common hazards
- Vehicles moving to and from stand and
alongside aircraft
- Buses delivering passengers to and from a
stand
- Vehicles positioned alongside an aircraft to
provide a service
- Vehicles at the head of a stand preparing
for push-back

Consequences
- Substantial costs to an employer through
lost time, sickness absence, retraining and
overtime cover
- Injured person may struggle to perform their
job correctly and there may be an impact on
their lifestyle and future prospects

Suggested controls
- Segregate vehicles from pedestrians (including
passengers), where reasonably practicable
- Provide well-organised traffic routes
- Provide adequate apron lighting
- Set clear policies for operating vehicles at
night and in bad weather
- Set clear airside traffic rules on speed limits
- Make sure drivers are given training and
refresher training
- Use a banks person for all vehicle-reversing
- Introduce comprehensive vehicle maintenance
programmes
