Abstract

This document contains Methods of Procedure for the addition of a fourth

carrier. The implementation will impact in traffic and cause the site to be
down.
1 General

1.1 Introduction:

This document describes the procedure of implementing a 4th carrier in 900

band for Zain network Sudan. W900 will be introduced through Multi
Standard Mixed Mode Operation (MSMM),

Implementing 3G in W900 maximizes the benefit of lower frequency band in

delivering better end user experience. It generally improves site’s
performance capacity and coverage wise.

The Mixed Mode feature enables two installed radio standards to share RUs.
Any combination of GSM, WCDMA and LTE is supported. If the standards
are installed in the same cabinet, they also share support system.

1.2 Site’s layout:

All proposed 3G sites are already up with 3 carriers. The 3G part of the
cabinet contains 2 DUWs (DWU30/DUW31), 3 RUWs, and 3 RUS01s. As in
Figure 1
Figure 1: current site's layout

3 RUS02 will be added which will operate in mixed mode. Each of those
RUSs will carry the 4th W900 carrier + 900 part of the 2G.

The existing GSM part of the cabinet varies according to the configuration.
Some of the sites’ configuration contains only 1800 band, for those sites the
4th carrier will be served by the new RUSs solely, no mixed mode scenario.

A synchronization signal from the transport network is received by the master

DUW, that synchronizes the other connected DU(s) by sending an emulated
GPS signal, called GPS Out, and then sends the GPS Out signal to the
DUG. The DU used for WCDMA is always connected to the Data 1 port in the
RU.

Figure 2 shows the final site’s layout

Figure 2 : Final site's layout

1.3 SW levels in Zain network:

 DUW: W14.0.2.6 (CXP9023291/1_R4GA15)

 RNC: W14.0.2.3– RNC (CXP9021776/1_R4DA06)

 BSC: G13B_IPA7

 DUG: G14B1_1 (B1312R078G)

2 Procedure
Note: all below scripts are examples based on one trial site DAWHA

2.1 WCDMA:

2.1.1 Preparations:

Before start the activity do the following:

1. Save dump NodeB by running below command::

l+
kget
l-

2. Create a CV.

3. Save a copy from Cabinet Equipment and Site Equipment.

4. Team on site to take backup from DUW.

5. Install new LKF for NodeB with the required number of cell carriers,
power, EUL users, HS users, .etc

The needed new features are as below:

 FAJ 121 1357 Configurable Carrier Bandwidth

This feature is needed here because 4th carrier will be using 4.6
MHz instead of 5 MHz. This is not a prerequisite to activate MSMM,
but it is quite useful to have more frequencies in 2G when
introducing the new u900 band.

 FAJ 151 1553 Mixed Mode in Multi standard RBS

Enables mixed mode in RUS. Which means that it is possible to
share a Radio Unit all Standards(RUS) in an RBS6000 between
GSM and WCDMA, or GSM and LTE. Thus, two radio access
technologies will share the Multi Carrier Power Amplifier (MCPA) of
the RUS.

2.1.2 Activity:

1. Lock Iub and Utran cells from RNC side

2. Run the below .mos script in RNC to add the new carrier cells
run /home/eemansh/Scripts/4th_CR_RNC_Zain_W900.mos <SITENAME><SITEID>

3. Add the new cell’s relations (UTRAN, coverage, and GSM).

4. Run the below baseline in RNC:

RNC_Baseline.txt

5. In the RBS adjust the exported On Site Scripts as the samples

attached:
 Cabinet Equipment: add new sectors with the corresponding
RBBS. In this case for the existing sectors the RBB will remain
as is RBB22_1A. For the new sectors (sectors that will carry
the 4th carrier) the RBB is RBB12_1A.

 Site Equipment: add new sectors along with the 4th carrier data
(new cell’s ID, azimuth, fqBandHighEdgeBranchA,
fqBandLowEdgeBranchA, TMA devices if any..etc). and set
gpsOutEnabled to be TRUE.

DAWHA_CE.xml DAWHA_SE.xml

6. Enable mixed mode feature:

lsetNodeBFunction= featureStateMixedMode 1

7. Run the below attached baseline (contains the 3rd carrier baseline):

RBS_Baseline.txt

8. Create a CV and make sure all cells are up and carrying traffic.

2.2 GSM part:

2.2.1 Preparations:

Before start the activity do the following:

1. Use attached template to take backup of site from BSC.

2G_Backup_Commands.txt

2. Install LKF in BSC:

The needed features for activation of mixed mode are:

 FAJ 122 081 Synchronized Radio Networks

This feature gives the operator the possibility to configure a
synchronized network using GPS as synchronization reference
for BTS. For TG configured to use TG Sync1:1 frequency re-
use is possible for RBS comprising same cell
 FAJ 121 0816, Mixed Mode in Multi standard RBS (per TS)
this feature makes BSS capable of Mixed Mode.

Not to mention the HWAC needed for RBS6000 in BSS G10B and newer:
 FAK 101 0008 RUS HW Activation GSM TRXs

 FAK 101 0009 RUS HW Activation 20 to 40W, if more than 20W per
RUS is to be used

 FAK 101 0010 RUS HW Activation 40 to 60W, if more than 40W per
RUS is to be used

2.2.2 Activity:

1. Modify the DUG’s IDB:

 Configuration----Create IDB --- current IDB

 From antenna sector setup  RE Setup,Change radio type to

mixed mode
 Define the GPS signal as present

2. Enable features in BSC. Use the following commands for that:

AXEPARS_BSC.txt

3. Enable mixed mode in the TG MO using the following DT:

BSC_DT.txt

4. Check that all TGs are alarms-free and cells are up and carrying traffic

5. Add the new cells and relations in the BSC side using CNAI as described
below

Steps for defining GSM relations on the BSC side:

Note: Make sure the MCTR’s power is set with proper value. The RU rejects
power configuration requests if the total requested power (by both radio
standards) exceeds the RU hardware limitation.
Note2: In some cases a reconfiguration of the site is required to set all the
900 TRXs in one DUG.
