EXPERIMENT No: 4

TITLE:

“To Calibrate Bourdon Gauge By Means Of Dead Weight Pressure Calibration”

INTRODUCTION:
Bourdon pressure gauge is a thin-walled tube that is bent into a quarter-circular arc. The tube is rigidly
fixed at the end where the pressure is applied, and free to move at the end. The exterior of the tube is
usually open to the atmosphere. When the fixed end is subjected to a pressure, the arc tends to
straighten, thus causing the tube end to move upward or downward for vacuum measurements.

OBJECTIVE:
To determine the dead weight pressure by using bourdon gauge.

PROCEDURE:
 Place piston in clinder and note reading in pressure gauge
 Place 1st load on piston and note reading in pressure gauge.
 Then place 2nd load on piston and note reading in pressure gauge.
 Repeat these steps and take 10 readings in pressure gauge.
 These reading will be in Psi.

DISSCUSSION:

 In 2nd column applied load is denoted.

 In 3rd column applied load is converted.
 In 4th Area of nozzle is denoted.
 In 5th column theoretical pressure is recorded by using formula.
 In 6th column practical pressure is recorded using direct instrument.
 In 7th column %age error is calculated.

CONCLUSION:

 At 1kg practical and theoretical pressure are 24395.46862 and 24151.4053.

 At 1kg practical and theoretical pressure are 243954.6981and 241490.70.
