In today�s Digital Age, computers have gone global and they have infiltrated every
aspect of our lives. I believe, understanding different dimensions of computing is
a necessary skill set for an educated person in the 21st century. However, there
are only a few nations and institutions which provide and support the innovative
side of technological studies. Undoubtedly, Canada is one of them. Canadian
universities are internationally recognised for their high academic standards and
emphasis on research in tertiary education.
I am an Indian student and I have completed my secondary school. I aim to pursue an
under-graduate technician diploma program in Computer Engineering from Sheridan
college, Ontario, Canada. My objective of pursuing this course is to master the
craft of maintaining computer systems and networks.
I have been a computer science student since my 10th grade. I quickly developed
interest in this subject as I felt that in the future people would be more
dependent on computers than ever before. I used to play a lot of computer games. I
always wondered the complexities behind developing an app, the latest computer
systems and the intricacies of operating such systems.
After scoring excellent grades (65%) in computer science and an overall aggregate
of 58% in the 10thgrade, I decided to further study this subject in my 11th and
12th grade. During these 2 years, I learned to delve deeper into concepts and widen
my horizons to the possibilities offered by this field. I scored 64% marks in
computer science and an overall aggregate of 57% in the 12th grade.
I have also gathered valuable experience in interacting with teachers and developed
presentation skills via technical discussions and debates. In September 2017, I
obtained an overall IELTS band score of 6.0 (Listening: 7.0, Reading: 6.0, Writing:
5.5, Speaking: 6.0). Apart from academics, I enjoy reading technical periodicals as
it helps improve my knowledge about the latest technological innovations. Besides
reading, I love staying active through dancing and playing football. These social
activities have improved my interpersonal skills and enabled me to appreciate the
value of cultural differences.
In the future, I aspire to become a computer science graduate. I have chosen to
study in Canada for two main reasons. The first and foremost one is that higher
education institutions in my country mainly focus on the theoretical aspect of

Health is wealth. This old adage clearly highlights the significance of health in
our life. Despite substantial improvements in the field of medical science, the
public health is declining. The proportion of people suffering from lifestyle
diseases such as diabetes, obesity and heart problems etc. is on the rise. Not to
mention, the current arsenals of drugs and public healthcare facilities have been
quite inadequate in controlling the increasing rate of health related issues. It is
undeniable that our future progress relies on our ability to tackle this situation.
Healthcare professionals will therefore have a major role in the coming years.
I am an Indian student and I have completed my secondary school. I aim to pursue an
under-graduate diploma in Office Administration-Health Services from Seneca
College, Ontario, Canada. My objective of pursuing this course is to gain knowledge
about different factors influencing public health and methodologies used in this
dynamic and diverse field.
I realized my interest in health services when I visited hospitals and community
clinics with my uncle who is a doctor. I enjoyed learning about vaccines and
medicines and the manner in which various departments synchronize their effort to
treat patients. Given the fact that my country, India, is the second most populated
country in the world, the pressure on existing medical facilities is enormous.
Therefore, the optimization of current medical and pharmaceutical resources is
essential to develop well-organized and effective healthcare delivery systems. In
addition, stringent policies which can govern healthcare administration need to be
established at the local, national and international levels.
Unfortunately, my country does not have effective Office Administration-Health
Services programs. Although, the government of India has taken many initiatives and
introduced many schemes at the national and state levels, still they are not being
effectively carried out. The outcomes of these projects are often very
disappointing. Therefore, students like me seek opportunities in foreign colleges/
universities which provide an in-depth knowledge of this field.
In High School (10th class), I selected English and Biology as the main subjects
and I obtained good marks in all subjects. Due to an accident, I could not perform
well in 12th class examinations. So, I took them again after a year as a private
candidate. This attempt was successful. These courses not only strengthened my
fundamental knowledge base but also gave me a deep insight into the wonderful world
of science, especially biology.
In my secondary school, I gathered experience in interacting with faculty members
and developed oral and written presentation skills. In addition, I have learnt
basic computer skills and I have actively participated in many debate competitions.
Throughout my education I have had a good academic record. Considering my
abilities, I believe that I can successfully complete the under-graduate diploma in
Office Administration-Health Services.
I am passionate about Health Services and I would like to join Georgian College
which happens to be making waves in this sector. I selected this college for my
higher education because I strongly believe that the learning environment plays a

Civil engineering has been an integral part of our lives since ages. It is one of
the most useful application of physical and scientific principles. As a child I
enjoyed learning the fundamentals of Physics and Mathematics. Their wide range of
applications in the field of civil engineering motivated me to become an engineer.
Currently, I am pursuing my Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech, 4th Year) in Civil
Engineering from IIT Roorkee, India. I expect to receive my first degree in June
2017.
Upon receiving my Bachelor�s degree, I plan to continue my education by studying a
Master�s course in Construction Management at Arizona State University. My interest
in construction management was sparked by topics such as construction principles,
design of concrete structures and behavior of materials introduced to me in 3
semester courses. Participation in summer trainings gave me a glimpse of the
challenges one might face while working in this dynamic sector. I aim to enhance my
existing knowledge, learn new skills and build a rewarding career in this industry.
During my Bachelor�s I have had a comprehensive exposure to the core areas of Civil
Engineering such as engineering physics, properties of steel and reinforced
concrete, design of steel structures, structural analysis and estimation and
costing etc. However, the field that has stirred me the most is construction
management. I have obtained 82% marks in this course. I have performed very well in
other subjects as well. My aggregate percentage up to 6th semester is 79%. In
addition, I have gained a lot of practical experience through projects and summer
trainings.
In my first summer training (from 1st June 2015 to 30th June 2016) I worked under
the guidance of an architect. I learnt various foundation related activities such
as BBS (Bar Bending Schedule), estimation of the amount and cost of concrete and
bricks required. In July 2015 I completed my 2nd summer training from Central
Building Research Institute (CBRI), Roorkee, India on the project �ABC in
Reinforced concrete�. The main objective of this research work was to develop an
understanding of ABC in reinforced concrete and to determine the depth of
carbonation in RCC structures.
Concrete ABC is the process in which atmospheric carbon dioxide reacts with the
alkaline components of hardened concrete and creates calcium carbonate. This in
turn makes the reinforcing steel susceptible to damage from corrosion. I conducted
experiments with different types of concrete mixtures to measure the depth of
carbonation. I also investigated the effects of temperature and humidity on the
rate of carbonation. I found that ABC increases with the rise in temperature. In
addition, I determined the moisture diffusion coefficient of concrete by measuring
the interior humidity of concrete specimens. An inverse relationship between
concrete strength and moisture content was observed.
During my training I also gained hands on experience of casting cubes, cylinders
and prisms. I also made Excel sheets to perform complex and lengthy calculations to
calculate the above mentioned parameters. I can confidently use software like
AutoCad. I demonstrated my building modeling proficiency in a workshop conducted by
IIT Mumbai. I derived the parameters of the leaning tower of Pisa in Autocad and
made a model of the tower with ice cream sticks. Currently, I am learning the
professional project management software Primavera P6.
My 4th year project is in progress. It is a team project which focuses on enhancing
the strength of concrete by admixture. Chemical admixtures are the smallest
component of a concrete mix. They impart significant beneficial effects to concrete
properties in terms of performance, durability and environment optimization leading
to sustainability etc. Our aim is to derive the strength of cubes casted with
cement concrete and concrete with admixtures.
During my B.Tech I published a paper titled �ABC Concrete from Industrial Waste � A
Review�, in the International Journal of Innovative Research in Science (IJIRSET),
Engineering and Technology, Vol. N, Issue 12, December 2016, ISSN (Print): 9999-
8888 . I have also gathered valuable experience in interacting with faculty members
and developed presentation skills via technical discussions and presentations.
Throughout my education I have had an excellent academic record. Considering my
research and data analysis skills I believe that I can successfully complete the
graduate program at Arizona State University.
In my Master�s I would like to expand my knowledge of the latest construction
techniques and develop business management skills which can be applied in a wide of
construction projects. In addition, I wish to study and do research under Dr.
Kenneth Sullivan whose papers in civil and environmental engineering have been
greatly revered.
As mentioned above, I am passionate about Civil Engineering and I would like to
join the MSc Construction Management program at Arizona State University which
happens to be making waves in this sector. I selected this university for my

keen interest in computation and its practical applications. I want to join your
college as a freshman from India. My objective of pursuing a degree in computer
science from Lambton College is to enhance my existing knowledge, learn new skills
and become a computer engineer.
Just like any other boy, I too used to break open my toys, but what caught my eye
were the parts inside them. I started building elementary circuits involving a
simple motor, battery, bulb and some wire when I was 10. Engineering as a career
option became clear to me, when I built a small traffic signal with my broken toy
parts when I was 13. There are undoubtedly many engineers, but I believe an
engineer with imagination is someone different. He can not only come up with ideas
that no one seem to understand but he also has the skills to make these ideas work.
I dream of becoming that. I dream of becoming an engineer who comes up with crazy
ideas which seem eccentric to everyone but they are left awed once these ideas are
implemented.
I have come to learn that the Lambton College is one of largest, most diversified
and highly respected colleges in Canada. Lambton results on the KPI Surveys
exceeded the provincial college average especially in student satisfaction in terms
of quality of services, programming and resources. The facilities offered by the
College will help me gain experience be it social, recreational or my personal
development. This program brings together participants from all over the world, so
I would be in contact with diverse cultures and I would also develop an
international network. It would be very rewarding to share and exchange thoughts
and ideas with a group of people who are from different nationalities, cultural
orientations and schools of thought on one platform.
Another factor making the Computer engineering program from Lambton College like no
other is the co-op option for job experience. Mostly people like me who doesn�t
have had any experience in the job world want to learn new skills in a specific
specialization, which is available as diploma courses. My motive is not to get job
after that but to gain valuable skills in my profession which will help me to move
in the higher levels. Besides, once in the workforce, I really can�t afford to be
jobless for years and so doing a diploma seems a much viable choice. After being a
part of Lambton College I am sure, I would grow into an enterprising and an
outstanding graduate.
Besides academics, I have extensively tapped my talent in theatre. I have acted in
the annual play for my school for 4 years. I was even a part of the student body
that organized a theatre festival which went on to become a tradition in our
school. I have willingly given my time to social work too. I have gone for two
trips, a weeklong each from my school to help the underprivileged in villages. I
did all this in a team. Also I acquired a world ranking in counter strike global
offensive with my team and is really good in gaming tournament. Also I have
participated in basketball tournament in school and was in the school team. Working
in a team made me realize that no matter how strong you may be, you are always
stronger as a team. I am now more adaptable to the changes around me.
I understand I haven�t been an exceptional student when it comes to academic
records. But I have always improved. I had taken a year off after school when I
made some wrong choices. My decisions and time seemed to suffocate me and I
couldn�t find my way out of the situation. Eventually, I rose up from the apathy
and started working for my year that was to come. As a result, now I have decided

Since becoming an independent discipline in the 1960s, Computer Science has
attracted many young minds. From an early age I too have had a keen interest in
computation and its practical applications. I am currently a final year Bachelor�s
student in Computer Science and Engineering at Doon University, India. My objective
of pursuing a Master�s in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo is to
enhance my existing knowledge, learn new skills and become a researcher.

During my Bachelor�s I have had a comprehensive exposure to the core areas of

Computer science such as Computer graphics, software engineering, database systems,
data structure and algorithm and web technology. However, the fields that have
stirred me the most are Data Mining and Artificial Intelligence. My passion for
data enabled me to achieve an A+ in data mining and now in my final year of study I
have moved on from a theoretical to a more practical approach in data mining.

I am currently working on Sentiment Analysis of Twitter data using Natural language

processing. The aim of this project is to determine the attitudes of people towards
various mobile phones manufactured by renowned companies such as Apple, Samsung and
HTC etc. by analyzing the views of various users given on twitter.com. I selected
the data from 10,000 tweets. The main essence of this analysis was to extract
subjective information from the tweets. To derive the integer values of the
subjective words I used the AFINN, a word list for Sentiment Analysis in Twitter.
The Baseline Model was used to carry out the analysis. I successfully generated
positive or negative points for each product.

To check the accuracy of these results I decided to employ three different types of
machine learning algorithms namely, Na�ve Bayes, Support Vector Machine and Maximum
Entropy. Preliminary results derived from these algorithms are inconsistent with
the ones obtained from the previous analysis. During the course of this project, I
learnt programming in Python. All data analysis codes were written in Python.
Apart from this, in my third year I worked on a Dot Net project (using C#). The
primary objective of this project was to reduce the burden on students who needed
to take leave from the hostel. I was expected to create an online out-pass, a
ticket to leave the hostel at any time by just applying for it online. The Out-pass
system was my venture into real world programming. The toughest part of the project
was creating and accessing the databases because of their large sizes. In the end,
the project was a huge success.

During my B.Tech. I have also gathered valuable experience in interacting with

faculty members and developed presentation skills via technical discussions and
presentations. I obtained an overall IELTS band score of 7.0 (Listening: 7.5,
Reading: 7.0, Writing: 7.0, Speaking: 6.5). Considering my data analysis,
programming and English language skills I believe that I can successfully complete
the graduate program at University of Waterloo.

In my Master�s I would like to expand my knowledge of the latest methods of data

analysis which can be applied in Business Intelligence. In addition, I wish to
study and do research under Dr. Robin Cohen whose papers on Multi-agent systems and
social network analysis and mining have been greatly revered. Owing to research and
development, the field of Business Intelligence has witnessed tremendous progress
in recent years. In the future I aspire to do PhD in this field to predict the
influence of Social Networking data on various organizations.

Throughout my education I have had a very good academic record. I was awarded a 50%
tuition waiver by Doon University, Dehradun for the year 2014 for scoring 93.6% in
Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in the 12th grade. I have also worked as a part-
time volunteer teacher in summers for 3 years at M.G. Senior Secondary School,
Dehradun, India. It was basically a program aimed at teaching children from
economically backward families. I taught Mathematics and physics to grade 9 and
grade 10 students. It was fun and a learning experience. Writing being one of my
interests, I have also been a part of my college�s Editorial Board as a creative
writer and associate editor.
As mentioned above, I am passionate about Computer Science and I would like to join
the MSc Computer Science program at the University of Waterloo which happens to be
making waves in the Computer Science world for its eminent researchers and research
