Removal
1
Remove all battery cables from ground (negative) termi-
nals to prevent personal injury from electric shock.

2
Open the hood.

3
Clean the area around the piston cooling valves.

4
On MP8 engines without electric thermal management
system: Remove the desired piston cooling valve and
spring from the oil filter housing.
Note: Catch any oil that drains in an approved container.

Installation
1
Wipe and clean the valve contact surface in the oil filter
housing.

2
On MP8 engines without electric thermal management
system: Place a new seal on the retainer plug and lubri-
cate the seal with clean engine oil. Insert the replace-
ment piston cooling valve and spring into the valve bore.
Compress the spring and install the retainer plug into the
housing.
Note: Make sure that the O-ring is not damaged during
installation.

Note: The valves can be installed either way.

3
Install any remaining components such as oil filters and
check the engine oil level. Add oil as necessary.

4
On MP8 engines with electric thermal management sys-
tem: Lubricate a new O-ring with clean engine oil and in-
stall onto the piston cooling valve. Install the piston
cooling valve into the valve bore in the oil filter housing.
Install the mounting fasteners and tighten to specifica-
tion. Connect the wiring harness to the piston cooling
valve solenoid.
