7.0 DELIVERY, HANDLING AND STORAGE

• All permanent materials will be protected from damages during the transporta-
tion and storage on site.
• Materials will always be stored in such a way that deterioration does not occur.
During storage, the pipes must be protected from direct sunlight and contami-
nation from dirt and dust.
• Storage of the pipes shall be arranged to facilitate the removal of the individual
pipes so that the damages such as scratches, dents etc. are avoided.
• Storage area must be clean and the ground must not be marshy or unstable
and it must not contain any corrosive material
• Pipes of different sizes will be stacked separately or where it is not possible,
pipes with larger diameters and /or thicker walls should be placed at the bot-
tom of the stack
• Suitable mechanical lifting equipment will be used for lifting and installation of
heavy pipes at high level.
• When mechanical lifting equipment is to be used, no metallic slings, hooks or
chains should be used in direct contact with the pipe. Ropes or web slings are
preferred, as they will not damage the pipe wall
• An MIR (Material Inspection Request) shall be submitted for each delivery.

8.0 8 Construction Methodology

• Pipes and fittings used for hot and cold water piping system shall be plastic PPR or

8.1 Preparation

• Pipes are measured and cut to the required length.

• Cutting should be perpendicular to the axis(900).
• Outer corners of pipes are rounded-off by a file and inner edges are rounded-off by
using a knife.
• The surfaces to be welded shall be clean of any dirt and oil.

8.2 Welding

• Welding technique will be polyfusion for pipe size up to 160 mm.

• Welding temperature is 260 0c.
• Connect welding machine to power.
• Wait until the green light in the welding machine switches off. This indicates that the
machine is ready for welding.
• The pipe end and the socket of fitting are pushed to welding bushing in axial direction.
• Pipes and fitting should be heated at the same time. Warm up the entire depth of the
pipe and the end of fitting.
• Heat the pipe and fittings for the time mentioned in Table 1 as per manufacturer rec-
ommendations.
• After the heating time remove the pipe and fitting from the heating element and quickly
join together in axial direction.
• During joining the pipe should not be turned around its axis in the socket of fitting.
• It is permitted to turn the pipe only a small degree ( 100-150).
• After joining the joined part should be kept for the required cooling time.
• Only trained and qualified personnel shall weld the joints.
• An RFI shall be submitted for visual inspection.

9.0 Hydro Testing

• Verify the lines are properly installed. Check all connections are ok and shall be free
of damages.
• All fixtures shall be removed before test.
• Check the supports are properly installed.
• Water hammer arrestors should be removed from the system before testing. Tap all
points with proper closure.
• Hydro test pressure shall be 1.5 times the working pressure or as agreed with BAE
Site Engineer.
• Test water shall be clean.
• Calibrated and certified Pressure gauges shall be used.
• Air vents shall be provided to release trapped air.
• Apply a preliminary test pressure of 2 bars with hand pump. Check for any leaks. If
no leaks are found at 2 bars, gradually increase the pressure to the required pres-
sure.
• Hold the test pressure to 2 hours or as agreed by BAE Engineer to verify if any drop
in pressure.
• If hydro test is passed move for further installation of sanitary fixtures.
• If any leaks found, depressurize the system, fix the leak and retest as mentioned
above.
• An RFI (Request for Inspection) will be raised prior to testing.
