T108806-UN: Potentiometer
NOTE:
When harness is disconnected the articulation gauge on the monitor will display flashing left most
segment.
DC voltage on harness connector from pin A to pin C should be between 5 and 4.7 vdc.
Measure resistance across potentiometer terminals A and C. Resistance reading should be between 4.5K and 5.5K
ohms.
Is reading correct?
Measure resistance across terminals A and B and then across terminals B and C.
Machine straight (zero articulation) resistance reading should be approximately 3K ohms either way.
Is reading correct?

Result:
NO: Potentiometer may be out of adjustment. Perform angle sensor adjustment procedure in group 25. If sensor is adjusted
correctly, replace potentiometer.
Action:
Connect battery voltage to terminal #86. Ground terminal #85. Does relay click?
With battery voltage still applied to terminal #86, measure continuity between terminals #30 and #87. Is continuity
measured?

NOTE:
The transmission temperature sensor is connected to the transmission control unit (TCU). When
transmission temperature exceeds 120°C (240°F), the TCU sends a signal to the monitor circuit to

4 Input Shaft, Output Shaft, and Cylinder Speed Pickups (B2, B3, B21)
Action:
Disconnect harness and measure resistance across speed pickup pins using multimeter.

CAUTION:
The torque of solenoid valve and coil retaining nut can affect proper operation of the valve. Do not
over torque.
Valve to housing torque: 15-20 N·m (12-15 lb-ft)
Coil retaining nut torque 1.7-2.8 N·m (15-20 lb-in.)

Pins H and G
Pins B and D (for HFWD)
NOTE:
If switch creating continuity between pins H and K does not close when pedal is released (up) the
transmission will always run is partial modulation. If the switches creating continuity between pins B
and D do not close, the HFWD will not turn on. No diagnostic trouble codes will appear for either of
these conditions.
Result:
NO: Adjust linkage (see Inching Pedal Calibration in group 25). Repeat check.
Action:
Pins H and K.
Pins B and D (for HFWD).
NOTE:
If switches creating continuity between pins H and K and pins B and D do not open, the transmission
will not begin modulation and the HFWD will not turn off.
Continue depressing inching pedal until pedal is approximately 1 to 2 inches from the cab floor.
Is NO continuity present?
NOTE:
If switch creating continuity between pins H and G does not open, the machine will continue to move
after the inching pedal is fully depressed.
Result:
NO: Adjust linkage (see Inching Pedal Calibration in group 25). Repeat check.

Action:
NOTE:
Perform the Inching In/Out Switch Module (S8) procedure before proceeding with this check. If S8 is
adjust correctly, the following measurements should exist:
The resistance on the potentiometer from Pin A to Pin C should be 4.5 to 5.5 K ohms. The resistance across Pin A to Pin
B should vary approximately 1.5 K ohms from top to bottom.

Using multimeter, check continuity across pins F and G with transmission control and park brake lever in P (park).
Is continuity indicated?
With transmission control and park brake lever at N, check continuity across pins E and F.
Is continuity indicated?
HFWD Models:
With transmission control and park brake lever in 1F through 8F, check continuity across pins B and C.
Is continuity indicated?

NOTE:
Gear switches can be checked in an operating machine. Refer to Park/Not-Neutral Gear Position
Switch Module (S6) and Forward/Reverse Switch Module (S7) Bench Test, Section 9015-25.
This set of five switches is cam operated. A combination of three switches “ON” determines the gear position.
Check switch connector terminals for continuity at each position shown in chart. Contact closures are the same in forward
and reverse.
-: Gear Positions
NOTE:
Pin F to Pin G always has continuity and is used to check for voltage on shift handle.
