Technical Considerat ion
The Technical Team will take lead in the full range of pre-planning works, from liaison
with the consultants to finalization of all the dimensions, features and fitting as well as
the design of the precast component and the interface of in-situ and precast into
detailed shopdrawings.

Design Consideration
• Precast Load Bearing Plain Wall with minimum reinforcement to control
cracking.

• Braced syst em and lat erally restrained by floor slab.

• Connected with Vertical and Horizont al Joints via welding and shear key.

• PC load bearing walls and in-situ floor slab which act as a diaphragm
form a structural frame which act as a rigid box on each floor to cater for
the lateral loads i.e wind force or notional horizont al load.

• The walls above are supported by cast in-situ (CIS) beams at the transfer
floor below which subsequently transfer the loads to foundation via CIS
columns. These in-situ works will have to be very precise as its
dimension and shape will have to match its precast counter parts at
floors above.
Preliminary Planning
• Compressive joints – cement mortar are used as medium to
transmit compressive force between two panels jointed vertically .

• Tensile joints – via overlap steel bars, dowel action or welding to

transmit the tensile force precast panels or cast in -situ structures.

• Shear Joints – shear keys which are formed by interlocking

profiles to transmit shear forces.
Provisional of Ties
• Peripheral ties

• Internal ties – anchored to the peripheral ties

• Horizontal ties – anchored to walls

• Vertical ties - for building of five or more storey, tied continuously

from foundation to roof.
Preliminary Planning
• Plan and study the logistics, safety and health requirement e.g.
type and size of cranes, truck ’s route etc. to be incorporated in the
design and sequence of panel installation.

• Structural design and production of shop drawings of precast

member/panels: size, shape, dimensions, lifting detail, joint de tail,
water proofing, reinforcement bar etc.

• M&E services & Architectural Finishing

Preliminary Planning

• Identifying the load -bearing walls. Factors contributing to wall sizing :

1) Crane’s capacity and reach.( i.e. 100 tons crawler

crane- Lifting max. 6 ton PC panel for 30m range)

2) Sites contour, access and soil conditions.

(Crane passage must be flat)

3) Erection floor cycle.

4) Stability of panels before slab when is functional.

5) Distance from Precast yard to site (i.e. < 30 km)

Preliminary Planning

• Other than Panel Marking Layout and Panel Shop drawings for
production guide, other shop drawings generated are;
- Beam Offset Layout
- Typical Floor Formwork Lay out,
- Floor Hook Layout,
- Tie Bar Layout,
- Wire Mesh Layout and etc.

This would facilitate the site construction team.

Preliminary Planning
• M&E Services
1) All M& E services incorporated into the Precast Elements.
“hacking of Precast Elements on site is COSTLY ”

2) Close attention into sanitary and cold water services especially rain
water down pipes as these require big openings both on slab and
Precast Elements and may require structural reinforcements.

3) Lift services and type had also been confirmed much earlier as
additional cost can be incurred if lift shaft is too narrow or big. Opening
and support for lift motor also had to be confirmed and provided at lift
motor room. Lift shop drawing had been submitted much earlier and
confirmed by consultant before production Precast Elements
