Introduction and Setting
The Giovanni are as much a family as they are a clan; the majority of their neonates are
Embraced from clan members' mortal descendants. The insular Necromancers avidly pursue
two goals: accumulating material wealth and power, and learning secrets from beyond the grave.
The Giovanni, frankly, see no need for sects. They effectively police their own ranks, and
managed to survive the Inquisition quietly, without requiring the help of other Kindred. They have
all the allies they need in the form of their family, and can sternly enforce such aid when
necessary. All they require is to be left alone to achieve their own ends and the prospect of their
success is frightening indeed.
The Giovanni started as merchants under the name Jovians in the Roman Empire. During this
time, the family first attempted to call back the dead in what they called nigrimancy, as business
with the dead was not yet stigmatized and ancestor worship was quite common among the
roman population. When Rome fell, the Giovanni, now with their modern surname, maintained
the independence of their home Venice and furthered their own researches of what would
eventually develop into Necromancy.
Relevant Events
The Promise of 1528
The Promise of 1528 was an effort on the part of the Camarilla to shut down another Anarch
Revolt before it could happen. By making the Giovanni apolitical outsiders, they would isolate the
Venetian family and its undead population from other kindred. The Giovanni, of course, believe it
was nothing short of the Camarilla's tacit approval for the genocide of the Cappadocians, their
former parent clan now driven extinct by the Giovanni’s ascendancy. It seemed a political move
to counter the risk of another faction's formation when they were already dealing with the
formative sect known as the Sabbat. In the Modern Age, The Promise requires the Giovanni to
avoid joining the Camarilla, avoid involving themselves in the Camarilla’s structure, and avoid
large scale conflict with the Camarilla in exchange for similar considerations. This has given the
Giovanni free passage across the Camarilla held territory to work and have business all over the
globe.
Conclave of 1972
Vienna, Austria. The previous Conclave’s announcements displeased the Giovanni greatly, and
conflicts of influence increased in the intervening years, even sparking a few more obvious
conflicts such as in Detroit, Michigan. The fervor against Paths of Enlightenment remained
however, intensifying displeasure at the Giovanni who dared to act against the Ivory Tower, even
indirectly. Pressure on and discussion with the Giovanni leadership leads to clarifying the
Promise as not impinging upon the right for the leader of a domain to punish those in their
domain.

Single blood Giovanni and members of Major Families dislike being subordinate to the Minor
Families, and often find ways to remove them from power. The Giovanni clan also harbors a
number of Lesser Families related to the clan through marriage to one Giovanni or another.

simply erase rogues, those who wish to betray the clan simply end up serving in other manners
beyond the flesh.

Giovanni Clan Traditions
The Proxy Kiss
The Proxy Kiss is the gift of blood to a mortal, forming a Ghoul. There are several methods of
performing the Proxy Kiss ranging from formal to informal. Bestowing the Proxy Kiss is
considered almost as great honor as receiving it and there is much pageantry bestowed upon
the event. It can also be a source of rivalry amongst the clan, who may vie to be the source of
blood for the rising ghoul. Blood connections are power in Clan Giovanni, and this is no
exception.
April 4th
The traditional date of ritualistic embrace by the clan, often the subject of lavish parties and
intense intraclan politicking. This date celebrates when the Giovanni formally established
themselves as a clan and stepped onto the world stage. While April 4th is not the only date on
which the Giovanni embrace, those embraced on any other date are looked down upon by more
traditionally minded members of the clan. Many potential sires will often put off any new
embraces until the next April 4th, to ensure that their would be childe is well situated and
respected. April 4th also stands as the date when nonelder Giovanni can sue to grant the Proxy
Kiss or the Embrace to their prospects, with family members taking more serious consideration
than nonfamily members.
Tithing
Each year, every member of the Giovanni Clan is expected to send a portion of their wealth back
to Venice to stock the collective coffers of the clan or stock the wraith cells for the grand task of
accumulating enough souls to achieve the ultimate goal of the clan: the obliteration of the
Sudario, the shroud. Giovanni players should expect to have some amount of their time devoted
to resource gathering that is sent elsewhere. Examples of resources can be cash, fetters,
weapons, boons, vehicles, humans, vitae, gold, or even poorly contributing Giovanni. Most often,
they will have no idea what the purpose of these resources are. Giovanni leader characters
should expect to have quotas they need to meet in similar areas and to ensure their resourced
collect them appropriately.
Value is tracked and evaluated based on resources that the Giovanni tithes to their leadership,
who, in turn, tithe to theirs, all the way to Venice. The clan’s internal Masquerade is still in full
force, however. Even if the man on the street does not know why he sends new cars to Dallas,
it is all part of the plan. Augustus Giovanni has a plan.
A yearly tithe is expected from every member of Clan Giovanni. When a member’s yearly tithe of
souls has been gathered, the individual contacts the authority in Venice to retrieve them. The
tithe is documented by the Venetian representative upon receipt.
Power Structure
The Giovanni clan values Unico Sanguee over Doppio Sanguee for leadership roles. The
structure below is based from power seized and granted, though the former is far more common
than the latter. Greater roles are granted according to power and influence within the Clan, as
well as an individual’s tithes and relationships with Venice and the Anziani.

The Clan’s vagueness in structure can sometimes prevent members from quickly progressing
through its ranks. The old may be simply bypassed by the innovative young and the young can
be tricked by the patience age brings, but the greatest currency of the clan is success, and the
bank is always hungry.
Geographic Titles
City Head: Each city is run by a single Giovanni, though that city can be structured or managed
in any way that individual prefers as long as the value remains. This citybased leader can be a
Don, A Capo, A Sindaco, or any other name and structure they desire. City Heads report to
the Dirigente through one of his associates, keeping his office abreast on activities within their
cities.
Consulente (Advisor): The members of the clan with significant influence and high tithes to
Venice have the ability to ascend to the office of Consulente. A Consulente is an advisor to the
Dirigente and gives him counsel on the important events occurring in their area. The Consulente
have the authority to direct members of Clan Giovanni beneath them and have the authority to
carry out direct orders from the Dirigente. No more than three individuals can be appointed to
the office of Consulente per nation. (This position is Top Approval for PCs)
Dirigente (Continent Head): Finally, the lead for an entire continent has Each City reporting to
them, often referred to as the Dirigente. The Dirigente reports directly to the Anziani in Venice,
and, often, to Augustus himself. The Dirigente meets regularly with his council of Consulente on
matters that involve the familia. Their powers and responsibilities within the Family are
comparable to that of the Camarilla's Justicars. (This position is Top Approval for PCs)
Role Titles
Unlike the geographic titles, these are given to individuals based on what they have done or are
tasked to do. The titles below are examples, but can be modified to suit the style of the area they
operate.
Soldato: Any Giovanni can be a hitter (and should be to some degree) but the Soldato is more
than this. A Soldato performs the unpleasant wetwork for the family. This role is not an easy
one and those assigned to it do not go to courts, they do not get introduced. They show up, do a
job, and leave for the next.
Associate: Any Giovanni in an associate role to another title or notable Giovanni. This role
carries with it the esteem of the one they advise, and allows them to be the interface that a
notable Giovanni would use to communicate with those beneath him.
Note: Players should always work with the presiding ST of the area they claim before they
announce/dispute their claim. Surprising the presiding ST is the quickest way to lead to OOC
issues.

Notable Members
Ambrogino Giovanni (5th generation) Premascine and Master Necromancer
Born a bastard son and black sheep of the family, Ambrogino was driven by ruthlessness
and ambition. By the time of his embrace in 1045 he was already an accomplished
necromancer and occultist that drew the eye of the now extinct Cappadocians. Ambrogino
joined his family in their takeover of the former clan of death, and quickly rose to
prominence with his continued success in necromantic research. Augustus himself took
note of Ambrogino’s successes and granted him a unique place in the family to hunt down
necromantic lore and conduct his own research unfettered by family politics. Particularly,
Ambrogino has hunted an item known as the Sargon Fragment for several centuries,
believing it to be the key to several important pieces of knowledge.
Currently, Ambrogino stands outside the family’s usual order, and seems to conduct
himself as he pleases. This earns the premascine a good deal of distrust inside the family,
but no Giovanni would be foolish enough to disrespect the power this Kindred wields.
Lucretia Giovanni (6th generation) Dirigente of North America
Lucretia was born into one of the wealthiest sections of the Giovanni family, that fact along
with her beauty, and her direct descent from the powerful Claudius Giovanni made her an
appealing prospect to the Clan. The fact she had betrayed and poisoned her parents by
age 21 only heightened the interest. It is rumored that Claudius himself had planned to
embrace her, but that Ambrogino intervened, using a boon granted to him by Augustus
himself to claim the girl, in 1205, as his own to spite his rival. Over the centuries, Lucretia
and Ambrogino developed a close bond and she served him loyally on many of his
explorations into forgotten lore.
In the modern nights, Lucretia’s loyalty and success has earned her the prestigious
position of Dirigente over North America. Parted from her sire, some say by design, she
has proven herself as hungry for political power, as she was for necromantic knowledge.
She has created a stable, yet ambitious tone for the North American Giovanni, based
largely on proven results and success. A skilled tracker of information, nothing in the
Giovanni Clan in America goes without her notice.
Isabel Giovanni (9th generation) Consulente to Lucretia
Isabel was born into the dark secrets of the Giovanni clan, reveling in them as her morality
rotted. She was given the Proxy kiss in her early 20s, though it was several decades
before her unorthodox requests for Embrace were finally granted, and her skill in diplomacy
as well as necromancy noted. Since her embrace in 1714, Isabel has acted as the public
face of the clan, often entertaining luminaries from the Camarilla and working with them to
assure good relations. However, rumors abounded that she could only drink blood from the
several skulls of her vessels and she kept an inordinate amount of wraths bound to her
heart. Isabel simply smiles to such stories, bending her fearsome and depraved reputation
to her favor, find diplomacy works best for her when she is feared.
Currently, she assists Lucretia as an advisor, acting as her liaison from the Family
to the Camarilla. Isabel’s loyalty to her clan is displayed by working ceaselessly to ensure

positive relations maintain between the Giovanni and Kindred society. A dangerous
position, since she is often called upon first should any question of the Promise be brought
up in high politics.
