REF Calculations Output Code of Practice

The document provides calculations for wind loading on a 20.785m tall, 54.225m long by 13.7m wide, 6 floor building located in an area with a basic wind speed of 77.78m/s. It applies factors from British standards to determine the design wind speed and dynamic wind pressure at different building heights. The maximum calculated pressure coefficient less the internal pressure coefficient is used to determine the load acting normal to cladding units.

CODE OF PRACTICE
BSI CP3: Chapter V: Part 2: September 1972
BS 8118: Part 1: 1991

CALCULATION OF WIND LOADING

Basic wind speed, V = 280km/hr = 77.78m/s

Building: Ground + 6 floors

Parking at ground, no openings

Building height, h = 20.785m

Building length, l = 54.225 m
Building width, w = 13.7m

Table 2

Table 3 Ground Roughness factor S2

Terrain category 3: Country with many windbreaks, small towns, suburbs of large
cities.

Clause Class A is adopted since wind action will be checked on all units of cladding,
5.5.2 glazing and their immediate fixings.

Note:
Mullions, transoms etc are part of the cladding. Class A category is used for the
calculations of these elements.
