EC 301 : ANALOG ELECTRONIC CIRCUITS

Time : 3 Hours Max. Marks : 100

Instruction : Answer any five full questions selecting atleast two from each Part.

PART – A

1. a) Explain how electrons are focussed to a five point on the screen of a CRT. 8
b) Derive an expression for the current in a PN Junction diode. 8
c) Explain the terms : i) Diffusion ii) Depletion region. 4

2. a) Draw the circuit of a full wave bridge rectifier with LC filter. Explain its working
and derive an expression for ripple factor. 10
b) Differentiate between practical diode and ideal diode. 5
c) A bridge rectifier with a capacitor filter uses a capacitor of 100 F to Provide


a filtering for 1K load resistance. Calculate the percentage of ripple in the




output. 5

3. a) Explain the tripling and quadrupling action in a voltage multiplier circuit. 6


b) Derive an expression for S(ICO) for collector – To – Base bias. 6
c) The fig. below shows the Two – way – parallel clipper circuit. Determine its
output waveform. Assume the diode drop of 0.7 V. 8

4. a) Draw an Ebers-Moll model for an npn transistor. Identify all currents and
voltages and explain each quantity. 8
b) With a neat circuit diagram, explain the operation of class-B push pull
Amplifier. 4
c) For the transistor connected in ‘CE’ configuration, determine Av, AI, Ri and Ro
using the complete Hybrid Equivalent model.

5. a) Explain self biasing circuit in JFET and derive an expression for ‘Q’ point. 6

c) What are the advantages of JFET when compared to BJT ? 6

6. a) What are the advantages and disadvantages of Negative Feed back Amplifiers ? 6
b) Draw the circuit diagram of voltage series feed back amplifier and derive an
expression for Ai, Av, R i and Ro. 8
c) An amplifier with negative feed back has a voltage gain 120. It is found that
without feed back an input signal of 60 mv is required to produce a particular
output, where as with feed back the input signal must be 0.5 V to get the same
input. Find Av and ‘ ’ of the Amplifier.

7. a) With a neat circuit diagram, explain the frequency response of single tuned
voltage amplifier. 8
b) Explain the operation of class ‘C’ tuned amplifier. 6
c) A tank circuit uses a capacitor of 100 PF and an inductor of 15 H. The 

resistance of the inductor is 5 . Determine i) Resonant Frequency




ii) The impedance at resonance iii) Q Factor and iv) Band width. 6

8. a) Explain Emitter-coupled differential Amplifier. 6

b) Write a short notes on :


i) FET differential Amplifier. 5
ii) DC Amplifier. 5

c) Design a differential Amplifier with the power supplies of 


12 V and a
collector current of 4 A.
