Chapter 1
THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND
The study is confident of the important contribution of the present research work especially its significance to the
following:
School Administrators - This would direct the attention of the school administrators and most especially, the program
implementers to address the needs of the students for better quality learning giving more emphasis on the importance of
improving students’ Interpersonal Communication Skills, Levels of Assertiveness, Self-esteem, and Emotional Intelligence.
Teacher Education Students - This study would motivate the students to improve their social interaction skills by
enhancing their Interpersonal Communication Skills, Level of Assertiveness, Self-esteem, and Emotional Intelligence and
these will be gained if they will engage and commit themselves to Curricular and Extra-curricular Activities.
To the reader – This study would give a realization to the reader that the level of Social Interaction may vary depending
on other factors including Interpersonal Skills, Levels of Assertiveness, Self-esteem, and Emotional Intelligence and that
they must give attention to improve these factors in order to enhance level of social interaction.
If all these will be accomplished, the level of social interaction of the students using English language will be improved.
2. Who will benefit from your study and how they will be benefitted?

METHODS AND PROCEDURES
This chapter presents the methodology that the researcher will employ in this study. Also included in this chapter are the
sampling design, instrument, and technique used in the gathering of data.
Method of Research
The study employed descriptive method of research in the investigation of the personal profile of the BSEd students.
According to Farmer (2004), descriptive research generally includes collection of data in order to test the hypothesis and
answer inquiries related to the subject of the study. It also involves description, recording, analysis, and interpretation of
the gathered data.

METHODS AND PROCEDURES
In gathering data, the study will use the following instrument and technique:
Instrument:
Interview – An interview is a conversation in which the interviewer seeks to gain information from the person being
interviewed – usually an expert. A semi-structured interview will be used as the pattern in administering and in
constructing the questions to be used to gather data. In a semi-structured interview, the interviewee will be asked a series
of open-ended questions based on the area to be explored. The researchers sought for the recommendations and approval
of subject matter experts consisting of a ____________, ____________, and ____________. This was made to determine
the validity of the questionnaire to be used as the instrument in this study.
Technique:
The interview will be conducted using a printed questionnaire where respondents are requested to write their answers to
open-ended questions, allowing the interviewee to express his/her responses freely. This was made to achieve the
accuracy of exact answers based on the respondents’ written responses instead of using a recording device to record their
responses. This was also made so assure that same series of questions will be asked to all respondents, avoiding bias,
human error, and technical disruptions and issues.
2. Describe the data gathering method you will use for your study:

3. Who will be your subject matter experts (people that are experts in the field connected to your topic that will
determine the validity of your instrument e.g. chef, teacher, psychologist, etc.)?
