SUGGESTIONS FOR PROCESSING THIS EXERCISE WITH THE CLIENT

Though the instructions indicate that the client could complete this exercise alone, it is recommended
that the therapist and client work on it together. When it is completed with the therapist, the client’s
hesitations on certain questions can be observed to better assess the client’s emotional state. The
processing should be focused on looking for specific ways that the client is open to developing
relationships. What is obtained through this exercise needs to be passed on to parents and others so
they can do the identified activities together to build their relationship with the client.
